I honestly think the more complex ideas involving "Merge squads" or similar is much preferable to "Recoup losses" or god forbid the current version of the abilities.
The current system (and arguably recoup losses) incentivises losing models, if you don't lose anything (Or too few) during activation you've basically wasted the ability... but losing models really shouldn't be encouraged.
It's pretty esoteric, but the "Merge squads" feel as though they fit the game much better, as strange as that sounds.
Another suggestion might be: Using Rapid Conscription or Relief Infantry would produce several infantry models around the faction's home base, which could instantly join squads that attempt to reinforce. You'd basically be paying "in advance" for reinforcements. (Or, rather than actually having models milling around the base, they could just be some sort of counter on the ability) |
Well I mean OKW also got a Tiger, which was supposedly the Ost's niche...
Anyway, point is Conscripts will still remain the vanilla unit with the ability, while these "Relief Infantry" Osttruppen that could merge or something can just be unique to said ability, and thus only to the few doctrines that use the ability is what I'm pointing at.
But really your idea and a unique Osttruppen unit that can merge I think sort of fits in with the whole "Relief" part of the ability.
Unless they make some sort of other unit to replace the ability altogether using the Weapon Crew models, that could also word as they have helmets and nice looking uniforms as well.
And yeah I get you as far as the vehicles go, but like I said I was more interested in the technical aspect of it, if it was possible in the first place.
Aren't there any unused models hanging around in the files?
Weapon Crew models, OStruppen or even Volks would probably be the most fitting for "Rapidly conscripted" troops... though of course Volk models shouldn't really enter the OST unit set. |
My Flak HQs usually do a fine job of taking down allied planes. |
I had a proposal once that Rapid Conscription and Relief Infantry would grant 'reinforcement squads' that could not be reinforced, had crew weapons, and their only ability was Merge. The idea was they were strictly for field reinforcement, you would just merge them back into units until the squad was gone. That could still work for the Germans.
Alternately, both abilities could simply be passives that reduce reinforcement costs and/or increase reinforcement speeds. If the latter this might require being an active ability for Munitions, and it's honestly not that interesting.
A further proposal; Rapid Conscription/Relief infantry are passives that provide infantry/team weapons with the ability to reinforce normally, or instead hit a different key to reinforce more cheaply/rapidly, but with a different model with lower statistics. (Conscripts (Or ideally some other, more unique looking model) and Ostruppen respectively.).
I'm not certain if it's possible (Or if there's UI room) to add the second option... though it fulfils (sort of) the role of rapidly reinforcing a squad to get it back onto the battlefield. |
Go blame USA for putting rocket launcher on a TANK then.
Also, after the nerfs, it has nowhere near the impact of first katy barrage part or any pwerfer barrage.
"The model is a tank so it should get to take three shots" isnt really much of an argument, Katitof. How a model looks shouldn't be the basis for balance. Two shots to kill would make it more than twice as difficult to kill as a Katy, Pwerfer, or Stuka, three is absurdly excessive.
How "Nowhere near" the impact are you talking? Can you quantify that? |
Because it has more HP that other medium 800 instead of 640.
You know he wasn't literally asking "What game mechanic lets the T35/85 survive 5 shots from a PAK". It was clearly a rhetorical question. |
they also cant sling AT, have snares, increase their squads by 25% or gain armour ...
for their price sappers are amazing. if not for their timing they might even have the potential to be oppressive.
In my experience they already do quite well vs unupgraded Volks, especially for their price. Im concerned the balance patch will make my early game vs brits even more AIDS. |
You already have this situation for Katiusha and Panzerwerfer. Yeah they have less health but you still have to dive in. So what?
There are multiple examples of elite units and heavy tank / super heavy tank in the hands of one player in this game already. In addition Pershing really isn't the best one. So I don't see your point either.
Just to clear this up, I play USF next to never. But I just don't see this points if they exist already at other factions in a similar way.
Because the Calliope has thrice the HP of the Pwerfer and Katyusha, and enough armour to bounce rounds.
It's unreasonably hard to kill for the type of unit that it is. |
Ost and sov engineers don't carry stock CQC troop role on their shoulders.
That's what the Assault Officer is for, now. |
If every, or almost every commander provides the tool in one way or another its not quite as big a problem. Not that I'm even suggesting only doctrinal options-I'm not nor was I. Exile is pissy because a usf Panther clone is a God awful idea and I told him such so he ignored my multiple declarations that usf medium AT needs brought up to snuff to accompany the Jackson nerf to try and make me look like he.
Elite zooks on officers would help not only with usf medium AT but also make the officers feel... More, for example.
More accessible HVAP on the 57mm via price reduction would help
Sherman AP could be looked at and made more AT with a bit less AOE.
There are options but I maintain, the do it all Jackson is overshadowing a number of USF vehicles and smothering diversity.
Given that the Jackson sort of monopolises USF SPAT, it would probably be a good idea to have the various Shermans specialise in AI or Utility duties, rather than trying to find an AT niche for them. The 105 is a good example, it doesn't step on the Jackson (or even the Sherman's) toes, and provides USF with what amounts to a Brummbar (That can also produce Green Cover... though I never see USF players do that with either Dozer Sherman variant for some reason.)
I mean, this assumes the Jackson isnt changed, but I think that can be safely ignored as a possibility. |
