yet it is comparable at best with the mg-42, which is 40 manpower cheaper.
I think that both the Dshk and maxim would benefit from a larger firing arc, both can be pretty easily flanked without even flanking the rear, but by just walking around the mg.
clearly the maxim strats simply work better on the MG-42, as the larger cone of fire and basically immediate suppression (eventually vet 1 ability) are really good, and it's weaknesses are the same for every other machine gun. The maxim gets to beat the mg-42 in green to green cover, apparently, but that is not exactly their purpose anyhow
AFAIK there were a lot of iterations of nerfs to maxim, because it very spammable and mobile. Maybe balance team is afraid of touching it again.
DShKa is awesome. It is a highly mobile and very effective suppression platform with 6 models. Won't be surprised if some say it is the best HMG in the game
Well the patch notes rolled out and they didnt changed much about the ST. Seems the balance team agrees with my assessment

Because it had decrew mechanic it had ridiculous veterancy bonuses and shorter then AVRE (I assume) reload time.
Because nobody picked it, balance team allowed it to be build with KT.
All those downsides were removed, but non of the upsides were reconsidered, that were introduced to balance up the downsides.
I think balance team needs too look at the AVRE and Sturmtiger more closely, because those are the least fun units to play against, without an obvious weaknesses.
AVRE needs a nerf and ST needs a further nerf. Screw those units.

The improved rec acc for sturms might actually make a 2nd one attractive early game to try and take advantage of Vet2 early.

Idk, you can make it work and its not a complete waste of MP to begin with. It could have been better or maybe skipping it sometimes is a better chose.
Its not a "must have" or "always usefull" unit that for sure. But again, only MG42 is a must have and always usefull HMG in the game to begin with.

I like HMG34, despite people hating on it a lot. In 2v2 I built it every game.
If I put all HMGs in descending orders my picks would be HMG42, DShKa, HMG34, .50cal, Vickers and the last would be Maxim for sure. The first two are excellent, 34 and .50 are good, Vickers is OK and Maxim is meh.
And its not true like at all. MG34\42 are defensive MGs, maxim is semi-offensive MG with Sustained Fire allowing it to actually defend something. But you realistically should always use sustained fire fire if possible, and you should do everything what is possible to have nessesery information to have maximum from it.
HMG needs more careful positioning, while Maxim can be used more recklessly, especially early game, but that does not mean Axis MGs can't be used, or less effective as offensive HMG compared to Maxim.
I'd argue that is some situation maxim could a better defensive HMG, because of its mobility and be able to suppress both the bait and the flanking squad separately.
The HMG is quite crap. You get it only if you absolutely have to do it and you don't have a DShKa, or to annoy an OKW player xD
