That would be cool. Would they retain their main gun ability? Not sure how the real life ones worked, but in the photos I have found the gun is still mounted in the turret.
I remember that in vCoH they couldn't fire from the turret.
It used to be able to fire the cannon, too. But that was considered too OP, so the gun was turned off.
Also used to be no limit on the amount of Calliopes you could get. Now THAT was fun. |
Ok, so I thought it was a good game, with some good in game communication and we "read" each other. Versus Axis clan team with Teamspeak.
I have a problem with resource floating, too. Any tips? Late game, I don't want to build random units as I wait for fuel for the tanks. So, end of game, my resources are higher than most other people. |
Already pre-ordered.
Get it on Steam, already. I didn't want to spend the big bucks for the Mothership that lights up. |
It does look bad and yes the ostheer do struggle all game, but the point is as long as they keep struggling and Stall long enough they can win and there is nothing USF can do. I think most USF victories come from players leaving games early out of frustration instead of just playing it out to victory.
That's nearly the general strategy for both axis: just hold off until the late game OP units come rolling out. I'll agree Ostheer has a tougher time vs USF early game, but even outplaying a OKW in early game, the result is the same....late game OP units FTW.
USF only way to win a game is the early game victory, quick VP caps, and prevent Axis from holding down fuels. If axis starts getting mid to late game units, GG.

I, too, think it's the 100% penetration at all ranges of the shrek that makes it so OP right now. Lower it. |
I had someone like this on Steppes justifying it as: "they'll get the fuel first anyway because kubel, so might as well save the fighting and get some fuel too". I just assumed he was a new player, but afterwards I checked and he was top10 on USF 4v4. Hmm, trying harder to keep an open mind...
Did the early fuel help? That's the question. I could see avoiding the fuel and capping other parts of the map while the Axis is capping the fuel area. |
To the OP point of less ranked Allies, it's painfully obvious when you see 80%+ of the people looking are Axis and 20%- are Allies. The hi ranked is obviously going to go to the side that's played more. Further, I think the 80:20 should glaringly show which side is easier/better to play with. People will gravitate to the "winning" side.
Oh, and I can only hope to stumble into some of you better players for team games. Look forward to that time. |
My question is : why SHOULDN'T this MG have, say, 10 penetration?
This is the only MG in game locked behind teching. It was purposefully taken to be the heavy, .50cal monster (as opposed to .30cal which was in CoH1 and therefore a clear choice), which costs more than other MGs. It also has a reinforce cost closer to that of Sturmpio than of a Rifleman.
Meanwhile OKW get Kubel with no teching, no reinforce costs, and at arguably less price.
There is no reason why it should not shred light vehicles like MG42 with AP ability on. At least then I would be able to say "yeah okay, it's a bit lacking in direct infantry confrontation but its multipurpose role really makes up for the increased price".
It's in LT tier, after all.
This. For a T2 unit, it's no better and worse than Axis T1 units. That just ain't right. Again, for what it SHOULD be, a .50 gun, it should be better than the MG 34/42. My $0.02. |
Real life takes a backseat to balance.
But yes they gave real life the finger in this case. Anything short of a medium tank should be shredded by a .50 cal. I remember seeing one tear through a busted out tank when I was in boot camp.
Oh, it does. It'll go through 1" of armor plate easy and shred infantry. When I first started playing CoH2, I was like Woohoo!!! Then to see it's no better/worse (no AP) than any of the other HMGs, big disappointment. |
I would think the .50 cal BMG (12.7×99mm NATO) would have better armor penetration and infantry suppression/kills than the MG42 7.92×57mm or M1910 Maxim 7.62×54mm. But that's only reality talking. Why make it a .50 cal when it has less/similar stats to the MG42? Make it the .30 cal, like in CoH1.
Crappy that the MG42 with AP is better anti-armor than the .50 BMG!!! |
