ISU-152 penetration is 230. Elefants frontal armor IS 400!
That's a 57% to penetrate.
Tigers armor is 300
76% chance to penetrate.
Panthers armor is 270
that's an 85 percent chance to penetrate.
Keep in mind that range is not taken into account.
Elephants gun has 400 penetration. It can reliably penetrate every . single. soviet tank 100% of the time.
The highest soviet tank is the IS-2 with 351 frontal armor.
Also i have 0 clue why SSheini is complaining about cover meaning less.
THere have been ZERO adjustments to cover.
Honestly, i really hope relic knows what they are doing and wont fuck up again having listened to people like SSheini... Who told us that G43 grens lose to ppsh conscripts 100% before the march deployment. Who said that the game needs minor adjustments and even then complained because the soviets had OP things during march deployment and now they are complaining like crazy because they cannot spam grens and actually have to use tactics to win...
Also, FYI conspam is supposed to be feasible. Con spam is one of the ways the soviet faction is supposed to be played. Now obviously LOL SOVIETS OP BECAUSE THEY CAN DO THIS AND GERMANS CANT.

Let me tell you how to counter shock troops.
You need to buy 2 grenadier squads OR you can get an LMG 42 on your grenadier squad. Unless its a close quarter map, shock troops have no chance.
Panther is only not worth it now due to call ins being too dominant. If anything it got a buff. At long range it nearly beats an IS-2 due to higher penetrationl.
In 1v1 the game is almost balanced. The only issues right now are soviet mines, ISU-152, and ele (in team games)

Any now look what they have done to the state of the game. Getting 70% soviet players in match find. Balance has been ruined by a few whiners on the forums. Soviet players now dominating..

The state of the game is the best it has ever been. You are pretty much blind to not see that. It was clear that the Soviets were lagging far behind and serious buffs were in order. Currently the only major problems are the ISU and elephant. The minor problems vary based on opinion, for example I still think that the troop training is an unfair ability. In terms of faction balance however There is nothing truly game breaking right now. The reason there are so many Soviet OP posts is because German ELO's have been rather inflated over the past few patches. The recent posts calling Soviets OP is just like when the Soviet faction no longer had to deal with instant pinning mg42s and the forums went crazy with my mg42 no longer win games easily and Soviets are OP. There is not a whole lot you can really argue, Go ask the upper level players on their streams what they think.

This map is universally banned by both factions. As for your maxim spam problem remember the mortar, It is fantastic at killing off maxim. Another thing you should keep in mind when playing this game is tech choice as Soviets. If maxim spam starts early, you can know for sure there will not be snipers, at least for a bit. The German sniper is a great choice because it is rather hard to counter without T1. You will pick off many crew members before even a mortar is there to soft counter you. |
It wouldn't matter if he was 100% right 100% of the time, he's still violating site policy vis a vis "being respectful to other members". This is a policy that seems extremely loosely enforced, unfortunately. At any rate, take a casual stroll through his post history here and on the official forums. You'll see a pretty clear trend, which is that he's only interested in fixing balance issues that are hurting the Soviet faction. He generally takes the "L2PlayNub" stance on balance problems hurting the Germans. And he's quite frequently an asshole to people while doing it.

I think the worst part about these units being so good is how they change game play. You can be completely dominating until one of these pops out and it turns into a game of how can I inflict damage without being shot by it (Much easier said than done). Elephants and ISUs shut down armor pushing units off of important points because you'll get hit the second your opponent gets sight of it. They also make infantry pushes hard because without tank support MGs can really hamper any assault not to mention if their allies have any armor to push back your attack without retaliation. Really it turns into a not very fun game of cat and mouse which is terribly easy for the cat to win. |
This game lacks a few things from newer RTS's that I hope western front comes out with:
1) a replay mode that allows multiple spectators
2) customizable hot keys
3) a replay mode that allows you to rewind / seek a previous time
4) a replay mode that has more useful information on it like SCII's UI (Displays a bunch of diferent info like total munitions, resources spent where, etc)
5) a league system that helps pair people up with similar ELO more often like SCII's
6) displaying what the veteran status of the unit gains so players do not have to dig for those facts

And thats why I agree with the OP, but:
I personally dont feel that the Elefant is that much of a problem.
I havent seen a lot of Elefants fielded before this patch (BUT I havent really focused on 2v2s before this patch either...) and barely fielded them myself.
If the ISU situation gets fixed I think we will also see less Elefants on the field. If the Elefants continue to dominate team matches then they should be changed as well.
But maybe Relic is currently waiting for The Western Front armies, to see how the meta will change with the new factions... :/

ISU just needs to go back to being how it was before with a penetration increase. It was rarely seen before because of its ok performance and massive cost. It was only ok at combat because it bounced so often vs Panthers and tigers which allowed them to pretty much hard counter the ISU. Currently it hits small targets too often, but I think the direction they went with in terms of a pen buff was the right call.
As for the elephant it is a 25 population monster at killing tanks, but It is pretty terrible at killing infantry. Enough Zis guns walking forward while supported will push the elephant off of guarding victory points. You will still need tanks, but keep them out on the flanks where the elephant is not pushing back attacks or breaking open attack avenues and pulling back before the elephant can get in position to do anything about it.
In my opinion, the elephant isnt that bad to deal with, but the ISU is too good at killing everything to be balanced.
Also if they buffed artillery in some fashion (Personally I think they should just be cheaper ) the counters to these long range beasts will come back. Now I will say that a quick easy hot fix of the problem would be taking out the bombing strikes for each of the doctrines that have the ISU and the elephant. Right now they come stock with the counter to artillery and a way to liven up the combat would be able to safely (relatively) going for artillery. |
Germans are OP. The commander with the Assault Grenadiers is a little bit over the top.
That's why I bought it.
And it's too easy to win...
Just wait till you play against Soviet players with actual micro. You will find that assault grens are the least attractive German infantry. Assault grens devastate anyone who cannot micro well because you almost always will be able to close the distance easily and thus slaughter them. |
