its strong, to everything except a m3 and dodge, which then it melts against it. its super powerful with sturmpio support, because going close and getting flanked is its weakness, sp makes sure nothing gets close before it pins stuff down and repairs any damage to it too. if you are having problems, play m3 or dodge, wait out for him before you choose a doctrine. or get ur mate to do it and watch kubels melt. to be honest, its far too hard countered but far too resilient against everything else for my tastes. Cons weapon upgrade has been a constant point of Sov whine since release of the game, and yet somehow Sov has managed very well without it for the games entire history. i really dont want to say this but you seem to have no idea on how infantry combat is. you seem to be harping on the 4/6man equation. at early game, grens vs cons are roughly equal, which justifies the cost of both units to be equal at 240mp. grens > cons at long cons > grens at mid/close grens > wounded cons at mid/close however, it is until lmg42 that skews this golden equation and throws it out of the window. lmg42 adds a huge damage boost to grens at *ALL* ranges, which makes them roughly the damage output of 1.75 gren squad or 7 gren model. each lmg has the roughly same amount of dps a single vanilla gren squad has at long and midrange while roughly worth 2 gren models at close range. with lmg42, this 4/6men equation is no more and the advantage is overwhelming, it is now 7/6men equation. naturally, there should be option for conscripts to scale to having the health of 14men to balance things out, but that would be absurd and fortunately not implemented. however, that is not the fault of grens for this imbalance, but the very nature of ostheer, they do not have elite infantry to speak of, only infantry that takes on a different role. but soviets do, in guards and shocks to tip the scales. but here's the problem to why soviets are always behind in infantry fights, lmg42s are far too cheap and far too strong. for a mere 60munitions, it converts a single gren model to do the dps of an entire fresh gren squad. to match, soviets must, go shocks which costs 440mp or guards dp28s which cost 330+75munitions or bring in tanks and support teams. but then, the relative cost efficiency of grenadiers also mean that they can also pump out more grens, bring in support teams and tanks to even the odds against soviet tanks and support teams. not only that, they can also match the numbers and even outproduce the soviet players. thus, at its current form the imbalance of grens vs the entire soviet infantry rooster comes after bp1 with lmg42s. there's just no way for soviets to match the dps with model count when lmg effectively doubles gren dps at long/mid range. therefore, the only other way to do it is to match them at dps, which means an upgun to soviet infantry, preferably non-doctrinal and available in all strategies, the conscripts. there is no need for any reciprocation of whatsoever that you are talking about as long as the dps for conscript upgrade is within reasonable range and takes into account the 7/6men equation and factoring in soviet elite infantry i have described. this is insane, moving AT gun to t2 is nonsense. who will counter flak tracks and scout cars? guards? should guards then come with 4 dp28 and bazookas and shocks fire plasma rounds? conscripts upgradable with lmg34s and panzerschrecks after t2? or maxim squad using imperial guards' heavy bolters and vengeance rounds? yes you can punish a heavy 25min t2 strategy, its also known as fast p4s/ostwinds/stukas/isg/infantry flanks/fallshirmjagers popping up from the rear/aggressive play. the same way soviets/us punish 25minute stall-for-jadgtiger/kingtigers/t2-tigerspam. by going fast t34/76 or shermans and wreck lines. he wants to make it so that lmg spreads its damage all over the entire squad instead in order to reduce instant model losses but do more health damage over the entire squad. while this helps to get smg squads into combat with low model losses thus full dps, it will be ridiculous with multiple lmgs. squad health will drop so fast without model losses to the point where lmg fire gets fatal, all 6 models would drop in rapid succession instantly causing a squad wipe with enough lmg firing on it. the problem with lmg is simple, its meant to be a scaling option for infantry squads thus the dps boost. however, the dps it provides is way too much at long range. right now, it basically makes regular troops into long range snipers capable of sniping models at range. going back to vcoh, bars never made rifles into elite terminators, they merely boosted the dps and firepower at close and mid only a small dps boost at long range and it was well worth the 200mp and 60fuel. call ins are the only way for soviets to maintain some sort field presence once heavy tanks are in play. even then, its a 1 trick pony, these are medium tanks with only mobility going for them and penetrate just by almost anything with anti tank properties. also, t34/85 have to do rear shots to do real damage, the skill required to use them effectively is already very high. they are already nerfed with 10cp cost, i dont see a need for anymore nerfs, they come at a very delayed timing. the reason why you arent already wrecking his lines with a much earlier p4 is because you were probably going t1-t2-tigers strat too, waiting out for call ins. cut their mobility with good pak/mines positions then watch the entire strategy fall apart while your own heavies/p4s are wrecking his lines.
