I suppose it hinges more on the doctrine itself more than the OSTTR themselves.
in many cases OSSTR do just fine/great, but comes in average/meh commanders.
been playing defensive doctrine in 4v4 lately, and been enjoying myself alot, and after patch all abilites will be buffed,
OSSTR gets a buff.
concrete bunkers buff
Stug E buff
pak43 buff
sector artillery buff
can't wait for the new patch to go live with my new favourite doctrine |
very thin line between OSSTR being UP or OP, any changes should be done with care, but i feel imo its closer to UP than OP |
change my mind.....
sounds like your mind is already made set? |
Tanithscout
was only stating the obvious, not wanting to nerf firefly, but i was comparing the penetration between the allied TD's, and meant that UKF has more tank vs tank options than sov or USF, and that firefly having the lowest penetration is somewhat justified |
USF and SOV usually only have jackson and su-85 as only tank vs tank option.
UKF has a good range of late-game tanks to choose from, be it firefly, comet or churchill.
It would make sense to make firefly not as great as Su-85 or jackson, as to diversify with combined arms.
on a side note, sappers have snare, and can equip 2x piats, cheap unit that can snare and kill tanks |
Leithianz.
i suppose you are right in that regard, it depends on how many OSSTR you are gonna get, and what the enemy has.
OSTTR work best behind cover, and they get slaughtered out in the open, overpowering your enemy with OSTTR blob is one thing, getting 2-3 to buy you some time until more powerful stuff comes along is another |
RANT WARNING:
When OSTTR was placed in T1 together with grens, IMO OSTTR lost its purpose, Being so similar to Grens.
would prefer if it was buildable in T0 (HQ) together with pio's and MG42's, as i still find its function best as a T1 skip/Gren replacement.
keep it as it used to be before the patch more or less, even nerf it to 5man squad, and get a 6th man bolster later on, nvm the lategame or MG42. Some units in the beginning of the game are there to buy you time, with limited utility (ultralights etc)
with the direction OSTTR is heading now, there might be a potential to turn OSTTR into something different than Grens, as grens and OSSTR fill many of the same tasks, mostly behind cover etc.
the buffs to OSSTR DPS is overkill
but if OSSTR were to get buffed behind cover and DPS, i would still prefer an MG42 over a vet3 OSSTR with lmg42 behind sandbags.
since PGrens are offensive and OSTTR and Grens are defensive, and the last 2 are built from same building, too similar, i would suggest if OSSTR commander is picked, some change were to happen to Grens, to fit in between the defensive and offensive role, although i would suggest Grens could get a G43 upgrade option upgrade to diversify, it would be overkill |
All of the suggested changes are perhaps a bit too much for me to fully digest/understand but:
-with the nerf of German infantry commander, there is no great infantry for OST. Allies retain superiority
-with the nerf of 105 lefh CB(OP but a necessary evil) allies retain superiority
-spotting scope removed for elefant, 1 tank per player, only tank that has over 50 range for OST. levels the playing field, but feels wrong somehow.
-off-map still favoring allies
to conclude my thoughts: this would nerf the defensive playstyle of OST, but does not buff its aggressive playstyle to compensate.
As i said previous, i have most likely missed some things, as buffs/nerfs to other factions, and how it all ties in together, but so far, this is the feeling i am left with. |
IMO OSTR should be buildable from HQ, seems rather pointless having them build from T1, right next to grens with a 40mp difference, if OSSTR is buildable from HQ, it will still come out useful, and the early choice between mg ''spam'' or OSTR spam |
german infantry doctrine is centered around VSL, which is now nice, compared to OP it was previous, but still not worth picking the commander just over a few nice things.
So i would suggest that VSL revert to pre-nerf, but would now require 2 part upgrade:
-2 CP, upgrade to VSL, but with 4man squad
-BP2 upgraded/T3 built, can bolster VSL to 5man squad, along the lines of late-game cons/AssGrens
