Given the relative silence we've had in regards to probably the biggest dropping of the ball in COH2 multiplayer - the customizable lobby and match making abilities that were available in DAY 1 of COH 1 - we just get the line "we're working on it".
As Noun was good enough to respond here - I'd like to know more than "we're working on it".
Will we have the same multiplayer game creation lobby abilities that we had in COH1? Yes or No?
That is the true failure of the game - not balance etc - those can be fixed - but something as simple and as core as being able to create your own game, select your own map, select your own starting conditions - this is what is driving players off who either are bored with the current lop sided "auto match" ability - which anybody playing a game greater than 2v2 right now will tell you is a complete failure - OR - POTENTIAL players are sitting on the side lines waiting for these features to be included.
So will we have this???
Or are you "working on it"? Where "It" could be anything at all?
A simple yes or no will make a whole LOT of COH'ers (be them current, past of potential) a lot happier and maybe more willing to buy your game.
Simple economics - people demand it - they'll buy it. |
There are people who want/need to be the first to have something. These are the people who stand in line 3 days before the new iphone comes out, or a new Star Wars movie, etc. I guess it makes them cool.
So I choose to be uncool. But at least I still got my $60. Benefits of not being a teenager I guess and having learned from a few bad experiences.
I played the beta after getting a key from the FB like thing. I literally played 3 games and realized it wasn't for me. And believe me, i really, really, really wanted to like it. I started late with COH, so I wanted to be part of that first wave of the new game.
I heard a lot of pros on here complaining about the issues with the game. So I decided to follow along and not commit. Yet, every time a new patch was released, it was like flies flocking to shit. I get it. Many here have a vested interest in the new game. After all, we're called COH2.org. Good or bad, it's where the volume was going to be and you need volume for popularity, ad sales, etc. No issues, I'm American. Viva Capitalism.
The thing is, I don't have a lot of time. So if I'm going to play a game, I want it to be fun and challenging. COH2 doesn't do it for me, so I stick with COH, even with all the issues. I check back here almost daily, skimming a few posts, hoping to see a string of good news. But when I see a lot of COH pros going back or just not playing COH2, it doesn't give me a lot of hope.
Believe me $60 isn't an issue for me. But I'm not going to pay full price for it out of principle. Your buys count, and unfortunately everyone who just bought the game blindly didn't give Relic much push to get this game right. Balance issues aside, all the back end stuff like leader board, lobby, etc. I mean come on.
But it's all good. I do hope those who bought in continue to play and continue to give educated info back to the devs. If they get the game right, we all win. And those who bought in early should be rewarded, especially if they turn it around and deliver a long lasting game in the vein of COH. Doesn't seem fair that a bunch of us can stay on the sidelines and then join the fun at a discounted price. But I guess we'll never be part of the cool crowd : )
+1 This.
I did the same and cancelled my pre-order a few days into the closed Beta. |
coh 2. no joke. vcoh was a fun game and i enjoyed it. but i hated the economy system in it. it was horrible for anyone not an elitist. there is a reason so many players did comp stomps in vcoh. vcoh also gave the feeling there's only one right way to play (coh2 has some of this still, but each patch is slowly getting rid of this). not saying that there was only one way to play, but because of the doctrine wars and meta game, it felt very limited in actual options for players
Well more power to you I guess.
Though your point of feeling that COH only had "one way to play" I think is the complete opposite of my COH experience and probably why I feel so short changed with COH 2 as in COH gave you loads of ways to play based on which Doctrine you decided on - I never felt boxed in to a particular style of play at all.
Still - so long as you're having fun that's all that matters at the end of the day.
As far as the OP goes - his money - like a virginity on prom night - is long gone and is never coming back - sorry to say it mate. |
love coh2. balance is almost there (munition cost evened, and give some looks in t3 for soviets and i'm good), pathing is being looked at all the time.
the blizzard makes the game slow down and requires players to think ahead with their tactics. am i near a fire? can i push with what i have? my units that retreated earlier are going to take awhile to get here so can i hold with what i have?. should i use my HT to scout and cap points? tank rush? my visibility is smaller but so is my opponent's meaning flanking is very effective right now.
the problem with blizzard is the fps, which they are working on. (if you guys have low fps, try using steam launch option -dx9 to help. gave me about 10 more fps on average).
if you really want to return it and get $60 back, that's cool. if you guys love vcoh so much more than this game, that's cool. see i dont give a **** about what you guys think other than the fact i'm worried the devs will think they made a bad game simply because everyone wants the original coh style/units/game in almost every way and they didnt do that.
If you could have EITHER:
- COH 2
Or
- COH 1 on working servers and removal of hacks etc.
Which would you take?
I seriously know I'd be willing to pay $ to have option 2. |
These entitlement posts are so funny....
Hey - if it was FREE - then by all means I'd agree with you.
But its NOT.
People paid LARGE SUMS OF MONEY (relative to other games at least) for this - hence they ARE ENTITLED.
It's ignorant types that think dev's do this work and we consumers should be GRATEFUL that they're even willing to TAKE our lowly cash for their hard work.
Wake up mate. |
And why can Blizzard afford it?? Because they make awesome games that people would gladly spend $60 to play!
If Relic made games that were worth $60, they could afford such servers!
+1
You know - SEGA is rather a big deal you know - they came up with this guy:
They have the muscle to - you know - provide say SERVERS FOR GAMES THEY SELL. |
Well not going with P2P would have been a start.... |
That's what you get for using the crap P2P connections from COH1.
That was pretty much the only thing that made me want COH2 - before I got to play it that is - but the thought of NO MORE MAP HACKERS.
But seeing as they just used the same connection system as COH1 - yet left ALL the good parts of COH1 behind - it was only a matter of time.
I'm really sad to read that it has been maphacked though.
If I'm going to be maphacked - may as well be playing a game I enjoy (COH1) vs a game I just tollerate (COH2). |
Can we please add an ignore function on the forums?
Do what you gotta do mate.

when CoH1 got a great metacritic score from both users and critics it was trumpeted by Relic and THQ as this great indicator of the game's quality.
CoH2 gets a lower score than SC2:WoL and SC2:HotS. And, users are just destroying CoH2 in their reviews while providing mixed reviews to SC2.
Now the fanboys claim, Metacritic is meaningless. Of course, you can not have it both ways.
I think Metacritic scores have some meaning to them. For 2006 Tech Levels CoH1 is far better than CoH2 (relative to 2013 tech levels). And the Metacritic scores have reflected this reality. The CoH1 campaign is much better as well. When CoH1 came out all RTS fans i knew and I reacted like.. "wow this is fucking awesome stuff". No one is saying "wow" about CoH2.
What can not be denied is the plummeting # of simultaneous CoH2 users on Steam.
Look for CoH2 to go on sale during Steam's "Super Summer Sale" that ends July 22.
I don't think you'll see it on Summer Steam Sale.
BUT I reckon you'll see it for $10 come the December Steam Sale.
Plus by then they'll hopefully have made it somewhat enjoyable from a muliplayer point of view.
Its Sega after all - they cut the price of their games like crazy - Total War series for example.
You'd have to REALLY want to give away money at the current asking price. |
