It made sense back when Obers were walking action heroes that could easily expect to fight off 3 Riflemen squads at least equally, but that is far from the case anymore so their current lengthy reinforcement time is definitely unjustified. |
I would suggest a swap for a DP28 I kinda expect that would be far worse considering how Penals have a not-insignificant chance of beating LMG42 Grens as it already. |
Paratroopers have it too. In fact, all of the Spawn in the map units have it. And some others, for example Obers, Panzergrenadiers, Commandos, all USF officers, Infantry sections etc. etc. etc.
Actually, those squads (I trust you mean Paratroopers or building infiltrators?) have a manpower cost to the ability that is separate from their squad. The extra manpower cost to calling them in that is unaccounted in the squad's 50% reinforcement cost is the price of paratrooping/infiltrating them in. |
Variety of reasons:
Variety itself, naturally.
Power spikes are also an intentional consideration (e.g. Conscript and Rifle received accuracy at vet 3). Some units are intended to be significantly better at a certain veterancy level.
Design may also have the developer(s) deem it necessary for the veterancy to compensate for the unit otherwise - such as, in other games, all units having the same veterancy ensures all the units' scaling is largely flat and more expensive units will therefore remain more powerful in a remotely even veterancy fight as the cost is the logical determining factor (baring the units' traits behind their proper management or the players' economical management determining how many units they'll have, of course). But in CoH2, say, Conscripts gain a bunch of received accuracy to keep them useful to its players rather than being rendered obsolete compared to all of the other factions' basic infantry who instead keep their basic infantry useful by investing resources into improving them. |
It sounds like a decent idea.
However, would you ever waste your fuel on the 251/17 if you put it side-by-side to the Luchs? Especially on a tech tier that gives you no access to fuel-free units.
I don't know the answer to OKW teching woes though :3
Yeaaahhhhhhhhh, I was going to say, whatever we do - buff 251/17. |
Basically, nearly every single 4-man squad in the game has had their reinforcement cost adjusted:
- Tommies
- PGrens
- Most OKW infantry
Not Roy Es, though, thank Quinn. |
Only some okw (the special snowflake as some say) infantry has non-standard reinforce cost, for absolutely no reason. It's for sure sturmpioneers and falls, not sure about the jeagers. In fact all units should have the standard reinforcement cost.
But you are right, grens are fine. It's some other units that they fight that have gone the wrong way during ballance process.
Obers have it too (though to be fair they're still kinda manpower overpriced even with it). |

"Pak shooting through building stay ugly and unrealistic"
Implying PaK's mechanic should change because it's unrealistic.
"'Or how ptrs slow and blind a tank ?' game mechanic, irrelevant"
Implying unrealistic thing shouldn't change because it's a game mechanic.
The principle that any one thing should be chanced for the sake of realism cannot be kept unless one is willing to go all the way and be 100% consistent about it in all areas.
Unless I'm reading his first post wrong. Hmm.
My apologies, I meant the mod. |

Bro, you contradicted yourself so hard.
Give up the principle. It is utterly unfounded.
Come play Kriegspiel Realism Overhaul V3 with me and Rebel if you want closest to realism in CoH2
Sooooooo, how's that. |
They've had it for years yet it never redeemed them in the many when they were just bad. Any problems definitely can't be because of the flamethrower. |
