Here we are with COH3 next year and not a single mention of the Panzer III. I know it is very early but, the short clip they showed of the Africa Champaign was featuring Panzer IVs. I know COH is not 100% historically accurate, but to omit a tank that saw extensive production, service until the end of the war, and make a game with a theater in which it was a centerpiece seems odd.
For a little insight with the information I have on hand from George F. Nafziger's, The German Order of Battle: Panzers and Artillery in World War II.
15th Panzer Division Organization on 25, May 1942. The Panzer inventory is as follows for the 8th Panzer Regiment-
- PzMk II...........................................29
- PzMk III(50)...................................131
- PzMk III(lg).......................................3
- PzMk IV (kz)....................................22
Likewise the 21st Panzer Division Organization on 25, May 1942. The Panzer inventory of the 5th Panzer Regiment-
- PzMk II...........................................29
- PzMk III(50)...................................107
- PzMk III(lg).....................................15
- PzMk IV(kz).....................................19
(kz) short barreled 75mm gun
(lg) 141/1 L/60 50mm gun
(50) 141 L/42 50mm gun
This is extremely basic and NOT a comprehensive break down of battalions, as I would need to take some serious time to convey the reorganization of the divisions over the time of their existence. With that being said, please feel free to correct me at your leisure or if that is something that would interest you in seeing here. The main idea I am trying get across is that Panzer IIIs made up a significant portion of German armored forces during this period and it would be a shame not to see them in game.
