Where are the Panzer IIIs?

I have always wanted the Panzer IIIs in COH. They would make a great early game tank unit which equally has several different variants that could be built, upgraded, or used as call ins.

Here we are with COH3 next year and not a single mention of the Panzer III. I know it is very early but, the short clip they showed of the Africa Champaign was featuring Panzer IVs. I know COH is not 100% historically accurate, but to omit a tank that saw extensive production, service until the end of the war, and make a game with a theater in which it was a centerpiece seems odd.

For a little insight with the information I have on hand from George F. Nafziger's, The German Order of Battle: Panzers and Artillery in World War II.

15th Panzer Division Organization on 25, May 1942. The Panzer inventory is as follows for the 8th Panzer Regiment-
  • PzMk II...........................................29
  • PzMk III(50)...................................131
  • PzMk III(lg).......................................3
  • PzMk IV (kz)....................................22

Likewise the 21st Panzer Division Organization on 25, May 1942. The Panzer inventory of the 5th Panzer Regiment-

  • PzMk II...........................................29
  • PzMk III(50)...................................107
  • PzMk III(lg).....................................15
  • PzMk IV(kz).....................................19

(kz) short barreled 75mm gun
(lg) 141/1 L/60 50mm gun
(50) 141 L/42 50mm gun

This is extremely basic and NOT a comprehensive break down of battalions, as I would need to take some serious time to convey the reorganization of the divisions over the time of their existence. With that being said, please feel free to correct me at your leisure or if that is something that would interest you in seeing here. The main idea I am trying get across is that Panzer IIIs made up a significant portion of German armored forces during this period and it would be a shame not to see them in game.

I think the issue may be that COH2 did not have Panzer 3s, so adding them to 3 would require more resources than just sticking with the Panzer 4. From my time with the alpha I didn’t see a lot of new models so I think Relic may intend to stick closer to existing models.

Or maybe I’m wrong and they’re gonna roll out tons of new assets in the next year and a half. I don’t really know since they haven’t spoken about it. It would be nice if Relic could give more detail about what they intend to change, so that the feedback could be more useful.

I'd speculate that the upcoming DAK faction will feature panzer IIIs.

Absolutely. If they have things like black prince but no panzer 3 this game is already looking a bit strange

History aint everything, but it would be nice to be a little closer to it

I really hope they will implement it as a cheap German mainline. Or maybe in between lights and mediums so that it can be used in conjunction with P4s as historically intended.

Why not add short barreld Panzer III to Italy Axis and make it fill a similar role to Chaffee?

DAK should and could of course get long barrel Panzer 3

Relics aversion to P3 or generally early war tanks is matched only by their fetish-like lust for P5 and P6.

Ah, yes. These are the problem and not some post war prototype tanks they just squeezed into the game. It's the German heavies that were produced by the thousands. At this point it's getting ridiculous.

Well, technically we got Luchs, which was late(r) war repurposed and upgraded P2 to serve in reconnaissance role.

I dont think its that, P.III's specifcally later models with spaced armor are quite distinct (epecially viewed top down)

I agree with the sentiment, that its probably not as popular of a tank compared to the PIV. Its really a shame though that so far the P.III is not confirmed.

That's... probably it.

Everyone cooms about P4 to 6.

But P4 was a common sight in both, early and late war, if one german tank should be used as iconic, its P4.

Don't have much to add, this is pure truth. I was really hoping Afrika and Italy would be early-mid war, but it seems we're stuck in a 1945 timeloop again.

And as much as I hate it, first Tigers appeared already in Afrika under Rommel.
