TLDR.
Here is my concise take on what is missing in coh2: A buff to the KT!
Alright, listen up, because I'm getting real tired of this nonsense. The King Tiger, the goddamn King Tiger, is the least reliable, most overpriced piece of shit in the game right now. Seriously, how the hell is a "King" Tiger — the pinnacle of German armored warfare — so fucking useless? We’re talking about a unit that’s supposed to be a terrifying beast on the battlefield, and yet, it gets outclassed by half the stuff the Allies can throw at it.
First of all, the armor is a joke. Yeah, it can take a couple of hits, but it’s not invincible, especially when you’ve got a bunch of enemy TDs (Tank Destroyers) and infantry running around with AT grenades. The thing moves like a slug and gets stuck on every damn hedge. And don’t even get me started on the reload time — the King Tiger's gun might as well be firing rubber bullets for how long it takes to shoot again.
If we’re talking buffs, here’s what the King Tiger needs to be a legitimate threat:
1. **Faster Movement Speed** - This thing is slower than molasses. In a game that’s about positioning and speed, this thing can barely make it across the map before half its health is gone. Buffing the movement speed by even 10-15% would make it more effective at getting into position before it gets whittled down by anything with a bit of anti-tank potential.
2. **Better Armor Scaling** - I don’t care if it's “historically accurate.” This thing is a king of armor, and in-game, it just folds under the first TD it meets. Maybe make it tougher against smaller caliber AT weapons or buff its rear armor so it doesn’t get sniped by a goddamn Sherman from the back.
3. **Shorter Reload Time** - The reload time is absurd. I get it, it’s a big, heavy gun, but it shouldn't take forever to fire. At least reduce the reload time or buff its accuracy so it can make those shots count. One shot every 15 seconds just isn't cutting it when you're up against massed infantry and AT units.
4. **Flare or Recon Ability** - Give it some utility, at least. Something like the ability to reveal areas of the map for a short period. The thing is supposed to be a battlefield king, not some walking target for artillery and snipers. Maybe give it a passive recon ability when stationary or a flare, just to make it a more useful tool in the hands of an OKW player.
5. **Cheaper Cost** - Or at least, less manpower drain. The King Tiger is ridiculously expensive for what it does. By the time you can get it out, you've probably lost half your army to spammed AT guns or airstrikes. Cut the manpower cost or give it more staying power for the price you pay.
Bottom line, this unit should be the game-changer it’s meant to be. Right now, it’s more of a walking target for anything that can click a mouse button and shoot. Let’s make the King Tiger *great* again. It deserves to be feared.
Don't buy this game unless you want to gain a newfound appreciation for CoH 3. Somehow in the year between the playtest and now they actually made it worse. Not by a lot, but it's absolutely incredible to me that it comes out worse than it was in the playtest. How is that possible?
Don't get me wrong, it's got potential, but it's absolutely not worth buying by any stretch of the imagination.
Man... I was excited for this game.
Care or nerves to elaborate?
I've played some of the MoW2 single player content right before the last playtest stopped.
Having played previous iterations it, generally speaking, seemed like a somewhat modern take on MoWAS2. Nothing too groundbreaking.
you should give another try, the game has vastly improved with the last two patches.
Damn thats alot of coh, Im glad that you have such a good time with it!
Every now and then I click into streams to see if I should give it a go again, but idk. the 1st year kind of killed any motivation for me to play. Many things got a lot better no doubt about that, but there are still too many things that urk me.
Im just concerned that coh3 wont have the same 2nd comming like coh2 did.
Hated coh2 at first as well, but with Western fronts I became addicted.
Not sure if Relic will make it until then with the recent news.
Now that coh3 is over a year old and Relic being hit by more layoffs after being sold to some venture capital:
What keeps you from enjoying/playing coh3?
I was wondering what other people dislike about the 3rd iteration of CoH, as I simply can't get excited about the game due to multiple problems of which several are subjective. (As a disclaimer the last time I played was in december, and I have like ~80 hours in coh3)
- Game pacing (VP tickrate)
From the limited number of games I have played, I really dislike the faster pace. I originally got into coh2 MP because it was an RTS that was slower and more oriented on the smaller scale, managing engagements.
- UFX feel underwhelming
First I have to say, the graphics department is a mixed bag for me. On one hand there are really stunning animations like the sand shifting over the dunes of the desert. But then you see the explosion effects and they are such a let down coming from coh 1&2. For me, devastating attacks dont look & feel as severe as they actually are.
- SFX are plain and lack character
The sound design seems meh, and is not as useful compared to coh2. In the previous iteration sound cues gave you plenty of information and you could tell exactly what currently happens off screen, helping you to react. e.g If you ran into an MG offscreen
Dhskas, MG34s&42s, Vickers etc were VERY distinctive.
- Voice lines feel way more repetive and annoying
It is noticeable that coh3 has less variety in voice lines. In coh3, each unit has 2 lines for each action. In coh2 they had 3 from my experience. Wehrmacht and UKF are the worst when it comes to being annoying. Constant screeching as soon as they hear a mouse fart. Given at first I disliked the coh2 voice lines as well, but they grew on me. But I doubt the current screeching of some factions will grow on me.
- UI still does not provide sufficient information (Buffs & Debuffs)
Even after a year, we dont have any insights on buffs or debuffs which units are affected by if the source of these are anyone but oneself. I recognize that they are still tweaking the UI but the pace of the updates is so damn slow.
- Established problematic game design decisions were repeated
Call ins in general, tech skipping, 0CP spam units, 0CP paradrops in to FoW, discrepencies in snaring capabilities e.g. panzerfaust vs at nades.
Feel free to raise counter points, as I am barely in the loop on a surface level via lurking the forums, subreddit and of course here.
EDIT: I was a team-game clown in coh2 2v2, 3v3 & 4v4, you name it. Usually played with my buddies, but we all are rather put-off by coh3. For me personally coh3 also ruined coh2 quite quickly as performance and mechanics are superior in 3.
#3: create a Dota or Tower defense mode for The Casual crowd
Coh1 Tales of valor had a moba style gamemode, never got to play it though. It looked like fun when I opened it once, as well as that tank-on-tank arena game mode.
I doubt we will see such a thing though, devs thus far dont really seem passionate about the game. So far the only dev I saw with sparkles in his eyes when talking about coh3 was Marco.
dude, rosbone is wondering about coh3's current review state, and you do a convoluted rant about corrupt "big tech" companies and the choice between universal laws (which universal laws?) and tyranny
