On the example of the USSR:
1 - main infantry (usually two squads of Shock Troops)
2 - main tanks (usually two SU-85s)
3 - engineers
4 - support squad (usually one squad of conscripts for critical engine damage, this is all that conscripts are capable of in the late stage of the game)
9,0 - artillery support (Katyusha, ML-20) |
I always liked the earlier CoH2. Yes, it was sometimes just broken and here on the forum there was a lot of controversy about it, but the game was much more interesting, livelier and more intense, 0-1 matches were not uncommon. And now the game has become very tasteless. Sometimes balance and fun and enjoyment of the game are opposites. |
CoH 2 literally already had the trappings of a successful Free-To-Play model. Literally just the exact same except you allow players to spend money for Supply or buy commanders/skins directly. And then balance the game so that it's not Pay-To-Win (i.e. you can still win with default units). Add lootcrates with rare skins, add skins for the camo on your units, knife skins. It's too easy.
It's a tall order for sure, though.
EDIT: Actually you DON'T allow players to buy commanders and skins directly. Make it so that if you buy 5 dollars worth of supply, you can buy X amount of commanders but *just* a little bit lacking to buy another. That's another dirty secret of free to play models.
All these lootbox changes were meaningless because there was no support. And apparently Relic themselves are well aware of this, no matter how hard they try to screw the FTP mechanics, it all turns out very badly: CoH , lootboxes all this led to nowhere. |
Nice attempt at sarcasm. Enjoy playing a game with max 1k players daily.
FTP does not automatically make the game popular and with great online. Man of War 2: Arena is an attempt at FTP which failed because the FTP mechanics are not suitable for RTS. And the old Man of War 2 still has stable online.
Stop fixing what isn't broken. |
A clear example of the fact that FTP can break the game. This is Men of War II: Arena, an FTP project of Men of War. I tested it myself and it was shit. FTP is not a panacea, it can break a game that works.
Initially, the project was announced in 2015 and was called Soldiers: Arena. On February 18, 2020, 1C Online Games, together with Best Way, announced the game by releasing a trailer with a retitled Men of War II: Arena.
On March 31, 2020, the game officially entered the closed beta testing stage. Open beta testing of the game began on July 29, 2020.
On August 10, 2021, the developers announced that they would stop developing the project. The game servers were closed on September 30 of the same year
At the same time, Men of War is still played, and online is stable at the same level.
sorry wrong topic

I've got some more:
Seeing my teammate starting with a completely offmeta approach eg. start soviets and upgrade Molotov or start USF and spam REs.
When I lose my whole army because the T command did not register.
When I press tab and t on a battlegroup and send the wrong unit to camp.
When I lose against idiotic tactics like blobbing and emplacement spamming (you can still lose to trivial tactics no matter how good you are).
Then tell us how you are going to attract to the game and monetize FTP RTS? The FTP model is not suitable for the strategy. The FTP model implies that for the donation you accelerate your progress. What is the progress in RTS with the base? You can count anything, but the FTP model may not attract to the game, but destroy the mechanics and gameplay. After all, all this must be reworked for the sake of monetization. |
This is your personal preference and it is duly respected. That does not go for everyone though.
Comparing COH to Man of War is basically giving it a death sentece seeing that the last time Man of War had 1k players was 1500 years ago. That I disagree with.
It's 2022. Nobody takes RTS seriously anymore and it's due to this mindset that this happens.
Companies don't take AAA seriously. As shown online Age of Empire 2 and 4 (about 40,000 picks per day online) Warhammer Total War 3. Strategy games buy and play. This is not beneficial for AAA companies and publications that want millions and millions of dollars by selling the game service and giving some skins. RTS is not suitable for this model. |
As an player I like the idea of coh3 having F2P MP. Let's face it, basedsecretary said it, nobody will bought 60$ for a strategy game and less for a niche one that is coh. About the cheater problem, I do play a lot of csgo and pubg and one way to deal with cheaters is to make the ranked mode wich are the ones where cheating make sens atteignable at a certain lvl. EG if coh2 went free for MP people would have to be like rank 50 before having the possibility of ranked matches. And from py personnal experience, I have had very few games paired with cheaters. So I like the idea of free MP.
Wrong, I'll buy the game. But if it will be interesting to me. Whether the game is FTP, but it will be the same USA and Britain against Germany for the third time. This is not interesting to me, FTP does not make the game more interesting and attractive. If a person doesn't like this setting and the FTP mechanics won't attract people to the game. CoH is a niche game with a stable fanbase. The same games include Man of War. |
Of course, without Relic, this does not make sense. Particularly absurd is voting for a new commander without Relic. In which the commander of the Airborne Forces won, who has nothing appropriate for this commander: neither skin, nor the ability to parachute animation. I think Relic would not have gone bankrupt if it had made it gratitude for the support of the community of the game qualitatively and would have made a small team that would actually make NEW commanders. |
Part of my point was that e.g. Grenadiers can always upgrade their MG42 and still pick up a weapon later. With Conscripts, you usually don't have that option. No one keeps a 6 men Conscript around just in case it will be able to pick up a weapon during the game. You usually upgrade them to 7 men right away. 6 men Cons with pick up weapon happen either during the early game when the 7 men upgrade is not available or during the late game when you cannot upgrade (yet) due to munition shortage.
I am not sure about Volks: Are they able to pick up a weapon after being upgraded? Don't think so, but not sure. Anyway, weapon drops happen rarely as OKW since they don't have many units on the field that can actually drop a weapon, like Sturmpios and Obers.
Maybe in 1v1, but in 3v3 or 4v4, conscripts are no more than a starter unit, and without elite infantry there is nothing to do in these modes. So in these modes, a detachment of 6 people completely remains.
I'd rather leave 6 people hoping for something like this:
https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/1832397300868642052/5BEC1715E1D5AACCD83A6D6CB73E3B54BA961346/?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Letterbox&imcolor=%23000000&letterbox=false
And I would always prefer at least one DP-27 over the 7th person in the detachment.
