Hey guys, I just want to start by saying that I don't think this is really a desperately needed change, just one that might be fun and add a little additional depth to the game. Volksgrenadiers are already basically in the game in the form of Osttruppen but are rarely seen as relief infantry seems to be seldom used (at least in my experience and in most of the shoutcasts I watch). I think it would be nice to have Volks (or Osttruppen) added to the t1 building (NOT replacing grens) as a 240mp unit that synergizes well with support teams but suffers from a lack of upgrades.
Volksgrenadiers (or Osttruppen):
240MP
5 man squad with k98s
Same armor as conscripts (1)
Abilities include Faust, bunker building, wire building
No LMG upgrade, no rifle nades
This would give the Germans a unit which they could more safely recrew weapon teams with but which would be more combat effective than pios. 5 men with k98s means they'd have a higher vanilla dps than grens but a lack of gren armor means they'd be less survivable without the aid of heavy mg-42 suppression. Adding this unit to the T1 building clearly has the potential to screw with the early game so it would obviously have to be tested a lot but I think it could be a very nice addition to the German infantry force.
What do you guys think?
I think if they're going to do that they might as well as just use the current Osttruppen squad for 180-200 MP. |
The new speed nerf to the Su-85 solved a lot of problems. It is in a pretty good situation 1v1. Anymore nerfing to it will probably render it useless.
Due to faction design, Soviets really have no choice but to at least have one player spamming Su-85s in team games because T-34 spam will get rolled by P4 spam. It's just how it is. |
back on topic, i talked to pqumsieh about kv8 a little. he said he thought the kv8 is balanced currently. i brought up how powerful its gun was and suggested possibly giving it a longer burst but with less dps, so its total damage per burst stayed the same. that would allow it to still kill infantry dumb enough to stay and fight, but give retreating units a better chance. he said the unit is designed to cause shock by killing quickly though.
i then raised the point about its cost compared to the brummbar and ostwind. he said brummbar is much better vs tanks and the ostwind has better range and also doubles as AA.
i dont entirely agree with his reasoning. i think kv8 would still clear the map just as fast if it took 3-4 seconds to kill a squad instead of just 2. im also not sure the kv8s AT and ostwinds 5 extra range and AA warrant their cost relative to the kv8.
he did say hes not entirely against ever changing the unit, he just wants to see how the meta changes first. the is2 and shock changes have improved those doctrines, but on the other hand panther is now (arguably) easier to get. well just have to wait and see
I am quickly losing faith in this balance team. |
Of course returning it to its old state isn't an option but I really would have prefered if Relic had done the survivability changes first with a simple nerf of suppression and the bulletin to reasonable levels instead of the hattrick performed by nerfing survivability, suppression and target switching all in one go.
This. Relic has a habit of trying to nerf everything about a certain unit all at once if said unit goes out of control and then only to re-buff it a couple of patches later. First it was the Maxim, now it is the MG42. What next?
I agree with the direction of their balance changes on the most part, but the stats tweaking goes too far at times. It's almost as if they're trying to appease fanboys of the UP faction by making the other faction UP. All this does is further fuel the raging flame war between faction-specific players as now it becomes a matter of "we suffered last patch so now it's your turn." Frankly, this isn't good for the community whatsoever, unless the goal was to restart WW2 on the Internet over a game. |
I retreat my statement.
After last game I understand what you guys mean when saying that your units were obliterated by KV-8. Something have to be done, as I am sure that wasn't intentional design decision.
I sustain my opinion regarding countering it and trying to fight it with Panzer Grenadiers though.
A bigger deal needs to be made of this - it is becoming abundantly clear that the devs are overlooking the issue, unless they plan on releasing another patch relatively soon addressing heavy tank stats.
Frankly, as the meta of this patch develops and KV-8 commanders becomes more popular due to Shock buff and MG42 nerf granting much more viability to T2/T4 builds, this is just going to spiral out of control. |
With its range that would be ridicilous. An Elefant is really hard to counter as it is now, since the Elefant is the counter to the only viable AT Russians have: SU85s. If Russians had something like schreks then I can see an Elefant needing some more acceleration but as it is now that would be extremely OP.
AT Guns and mass T34s are also very viable AT - it's not just the SU-85 anymore, especially after this patch.
The Elephant doesn't need any stats buffs - rather, it simply needs to be more polished, what with stupid vehicle AI targeting and wasting precious rounds (and reload time) on infantry, not to mention making it turn to face the completely wrong direction and taking days to turn back. |
Both AT guns miss far too often to be an effective counter against turreted tanks - unless of course, you have greater number of AT guns than tanks. |
KV-8: Yes.
T-70: No. |
I would really like to know what's going on here - something is clearly broken in these two cases.
I've seen this happen quite a few times on Semoskiy as well (both Winter and Summer, happens a lot on that south island with fuel) where the MG simply refuses to deal any suppression even though it's actually killing 1 or 2 conscript models as my conscripts Oorah in from the front. I believe something happened unintentionally in this patch with terrain height affecting the MG42 bullets and making them no longer suppress for some reason - unless this was intended, in which case I would have to ask "What the fuck?" |
there are several ones related to someone oweing someone moeny.
Fire at will - but not at Wilhelm, he owes me money. |
