Hi,
To what extent can troops take cover behind vehicles? Tanks seems to provide green cover, but it's difficult to get troops to be fully behind and have the green shield icon appear. Tanks turning (especially stug) seems to cause troops to jump away and dance.
Does cover still apply when troops are close by behind with no shield icons appearing?
I don't quite understand cover mechanics, eg if troops get cover bonus if they are a bit behind obstacles (but have no shield icon appearing).

No, German sniper can't even countersnipe safely. Soviet snipers are very common, and getting 2 is optimal (can snipe 4 man squads easily).
Scout car can't chase snipers because a well placed mine can instantly kill the scout car and the range is too low. |
Hardly OP. It's too fragile. Decent soviets can use AT guns and mines to 1 shot SC to death. When it reaches vet 2 it becomes good.
So it needs a big manpower price increase and slight health buff. |
I agree.
Getting 1 scout car then 1 HT. I guess we just have to micro it well and try to vet it to level 2. I tend to use it behind the frontline with grens scouting or behind obstacles (hedges, houses etc) to avoid AT guns (if it does pop out).
Would tactical smoke be quick enough to save a SC from AT guns? |
AT guns and mines (may be justified for mines) killing it in 1 shot is still a problem though. |
What units and tactics can Germans use to counter early-mid 120mm mortars?
Is it viable to use 8cm mortars with haltrack reinforce, and getting a Mortar Halftrack later in game after T3 and Panzer4 ? |
Doctrines with either tactical movement (helps for gren and PGren advance), elephant or tactical smoke are needed.

That 2nd scenario didn't sound that bad. You could've just pushed forward and gained ground as the panther backed out, or even chased with your own tank. It's not a shock unit, you really need combined arms and it adds all up. |
Damage means nothing if the Scout Car can't even survive a single Soviet mine or 1 AT gun hit. It dies too unreliably, it needs to at least survive and run away. How exactly can it scout?
The upgun seems worth getting only when it reaches 2 veterancy, which is fine because it's pretty decent against T70/t34. |
I can see that maybe SCs are designed to be preserved and vetted over time. However, the main problem is that AT guns and SINGLE mine can 1 shot it too easily.
I think that the German scout car only needs a slight health increase to maybe 240, and manpower increase to 160. 25 fuel is quite expensive investment for early game, and at late game making unvetted SCs are useless.
