What benefits are there in decrewing the 120mm? It's most likely that it'll be quite close to base (due to long range), and recrewing allows them to get lower population/upkeep costs.
I've rarely seen 120mm mortars being able to gain vet easily if that's the issue.
IMO, ostheer mortar vet is more valuable, as vet 3 allows it to have 1.33x range barrage, etc. So I want to keep that alive mostly.
I think it usually has more than "10 kills". What's the rank of players in that game?
The fact that it doesn't require much micro, and Ostheer must stress so much (spreading out due to the large instakill AOE and long range) is broken. Due to the 1 man still surviving thing, it doesn't reward Ostheer trying to kill it (a bit too hard).
It probably needs to be moved to 2cp and a smaller blast radius (or at least greater dmg reduction at outer radius). Currently, injured squads that are slightly clumped can be 1 shotted.
Upkeep increase to something like sniper would be better, but weapons can be decrewed and recrewed with conscripts...
Currently, Im trying to use FHT as green cover, have to park sideways infront of mortars which is easy to do. It'll only protect the 2 soldiers using the mortar though, and the FHT can absorb some frontal damage.
But how far away from the tank does the unit get cover. Only when the shield appears (because it represents overall), which must be very close to the tank?
I've tried using it aggressively (deploying and moving around) and using FHT for reinforce, but they get de-crewed too easily overall because of the small 4 man size.
If soviets get 120mm, it's very hard to counter mortar due to the longer range and larger crew size. Whenever I get in range of normal 82mm or 120mm mortars, ZiS and su76 barrage can easily de-crew, it feels too risky etc.
Any suggestions for how I can use them effectively in a strategy, or their roles?
How is Stug going to reach vet 1 or 2 in time for SU85 arrival, any success? It almost takes longer than P4 to vet since it lacks 2 coaxial machine guns and it's sluggishness.
You can't just assume that there's always a mine there and make that a point.
Yes I can. I can assume that decent soviet players can have conscripts with AT nades, mines and guards. In COH1, people mined near their entrances all the time, why not here? Soviet mines are cheap anyway.
You can't make a point that "you don't see Soviet Snipers much" so it's not a problem.
As mentioned, German snipers rof isn't as fast as you think. Camo only applies if not spotted and at cover.
