Jump back to quoted post28 May 2014, 00:25 AMJaigen Now the panther is a front line slugger. and as slugger is the most inefficient unit in the game it only has 800 hp better armor but very poor dps allowing soviet generalist tanks to cost effectively engage it. for the record the shermans and t-34-85 rof is significantly higher and they have the penetration to knock the tank destroyer out. and i dont consider specialist tanks worth if they cannot deal with at least twice the amount of fuel and mp in generalist tanks. increasing its ROF 4.5 seconds will fix most of its problems thats the problem here. u are using it like a front line slugger. that is not proper usage, its a tank, you expose it to the least amount of enemy fire and try to do as much damage as you can, by flanking and using shot blockers. you run away when soviets are supporting their tank better than you, not sit there and take shots just because its a panther. 1v1 is the scenario where it justifies the panther's unit cost(NOT TECHING COST), the panther reigns supreme, no other tank bar the is2 can brawl with it. how many t34 or shermans are you want it to face off? not even a single tiger has a chance with a swarm of t34. dealing with twice its cost is a matter of usage. a sniper is a specialist unit, can it deal with 3 gren squads? the sniper has no chance if 3 gren squads were to bum rush it. but a sniper at range and with a screening force can put the pain on as many gren squads as you can throw at them. what you are asking for is a OPed tank, seen back in the past versions of the game. stupidly quick with blitzkrieg, stupidly tanky due to soviet pathetic gun penetration and its huge hp pool and with a escape mechanism. you have played with it too long and are far too comfortable with it. its time to adapt towards a more balanced game. stats wise, the panther is fine. its tough, its tanky BUT its prohibitively expensive. not the unit cost, but the teching cost. its much cheaper to wait for cps for a tiger tank than tech to t4 and buy a panther. thats not the fault of soviets tanks getting buffs, those buffs were long overdue. The problem is the poor design of the Soviet faction. The problem is that Soviet mines does 100 percent damage all around it's blast radius. It doesn't matter if the German squads have more men which would only decrease the amount of squad wipes. The Soviet mine will kill any infantry that touches it and that itself is a big problem. The problem is the Soviet sniper having 2 men, have sprint and that infantry hop around when being shot at by a sniper. The problem is Soviet heavy tanks has too large splash damage. When Heavy tanks inflict a lot of damage the splash damage around it decreases depending how far the unit is away from the impact, I the damage around it should decrease more sharply. Bad AI, for some reason Relic programmed squads so that if any squad member falls behind a little the rest of the squad should wait until that squad member reaches the squad. This results in units bunching up more often and units randomly stopping for a few seconds while they're on the move. This kind of program wasn't in vCoH and squads are able to stick together nicely without bunching up so much. This new squad AI they put into CoH2 is unnecessary and only made the game worse. i'd agree with you, but the problem is far more complex than it should have been, this is a bandaid solution to an otherwise 'no-gonna-be-fixed-because-its-too-complicated' issue. splash damage took over target tables, fixing that would mean programming tank guns and i doubt relic will want to do that at this stage of the game cycle. Thread: Current balance for both faction27 May 2014, 04:04 AM yes, snipers needs to be worked out, but i dont see how conscripts are actually okay. they are not. they perform fairly only against vanilla grens, badly microed assault grens, osttruppen and pioneers. upgraded grens completely outclass them at all ranges and can take 2 conscript squads easily with rifle grenades. the only reason why they seem to be able to run around freely now is because of the difficulty in countering snipers, current trend of maxim spam and isu152 capable of killing them from range. fix these and soviet infantry will crumble. Thread: ISU-152 (solution inside)24 May 2014, 17:49 PM that replay while somewhat entertaining, but shows so much problems within the 2v2 meta gameplay and its not limited to isu and elefants. it seems to me, the whole soviet army is based on clutch units, mg spam and snipers to hold off gren spam and mg combo. infantry like conscripts and guards are either recrew teams or rifle nade bait. then midgame is all about AT guns to hold off german armour and entire soviet army scrambling to support them or recrew them. lastly, late game is just spamming isu152 and supporting it better than the german can with their elefant. what happened to the fluid infantry combat in vcoh? here we have are conscripts and guards being outclassed terribly by grenadiers once LMGs pop in and rifle nades being extremely difficult to dodge, while grens are being shut down hard by stupid shit like isu152 and their 1 shot capability. what happened to tank combat? tigers are great, t34s are great but here we have are isu152 and elefants dominating tank combat at all levels. this replays shows that these 2 100range tanks need to be gone from the game. also infantry balance has to be refined. honestly, majority of the problems in coh2 can be fixed if isu152 and elefants are gone. the only things that can really 1-2 shot stuff after are the brumbar, is-2, tigers, which these tanks have to be exposed to enemy fire, which actually gives the recipient a fighting chance to prevent 1 shots from happening by preparing for them with AT guns that out ranges them terribly. once the isu152 is gone, having elefants is overkill and OPed for the germans, so it has to go together with the isu152. which all is left are a few tweaks to tank combat and an upgrade package to make conscripts = LMG grenadiers for late game. If you are T4 you need a long range unit to wear down the elephant, the kat can fill that role. Yes penetration is worse, but they can prevent elephant from being repaired and force it to move. They also let you know where it is in the FOW. tried it, didnt work. katyushas is abysmal against elefants and misses so much in the fog its hard for them to kill even supporting units. giving sight of the elefants is barely any use when the commander has recon planes to spot and halftracks still cant reliably kill recon planes. while it is 'supposed' to be of some help, it is not the same as 'effective'.
