FF role is not to fight tanks in prolonged fights. Relic actually did a very good job making FF very good niche unit instead of copy-pasting it into another long range low survivability TD with different model and slightly different stats.

Without the expensive rocket strike ability the firefly is severely overpriced.

The firefly is far too dependent on the use of a 100 munition ability that require a 50 munition upgrade to use. Yes the ability to deal 240 +240 + 200 damage is insanely powerful but the firefly is a cost ineffective unit otherwise.

no one likes to fight against a 680 damage alpha either. Lower cost of the firefly to 350 mp 125 fuel. lower the rocket attack to 2x100 and cost per use to 60.

Not once while using that tank did I say "huh, this is pretty underwhelming, it only absolutely wrecks medium armour at an excellent rate as opposed to fantastic, and its 90% penetration rate on the kingtiger is sorta meh."

the firefly have similar penetration and dps to the panther. The gun is very good but by no mean infallible.

even at blank point range, the firefly's 260 penetration only grant 69% penetration chance against the front of King Tiger. 90% penetration rate is an exaggeration.

the firefly's 200 damage is also wasteful against medium tank. You need to spend an extra reload cycle (10 seconds) to fire a fourth shot at the last 40 hp of a panzer4. This is something the DPS value doesn't reflect.

The panther need ~ 22 seconds to kill a medium tank, assuming it enter combat with a round in the chamber and all shots hit and penetrate.

The firefly need ~30 seconds to kill a medium tank under the same condition.

can we apply that logic to the pak/6pdr too?

A fast moving tank which has powfull AI capability and medium tank armor(160/80)? No... You know the pens of Pz4 maingun right? It's 100/110/120. And the target size of the Centaur is 18, as same as the M3 scout car/222 scout car. Giving it fast speed will make it much harder to hit. That will make this unit totally overperforming.

nope. i'm sorry but 10-15 second longer wait does not warrant a straight up buff to a unit that is perfectly fine. especially since the IS reinforcement cost was reduced as well.

it is a matter of fact that the ostwind is faster while the centuar have better armor and smaller size.

The last remaining important question is the firepower of the two vehicles. Assuming they kill infantry at the same rate then the centuar need a buff in its speed.

indeed, the VI is a much better tank then the centaur, which is why it costs roughly twice as much.

for an AA/AI platform, the centaur is actually quite tough. it has medium tank hp, the best armour of the group, and very good damage. its durability is worse then a med tank overall but it also costs less then a med tank and has much worse AT capabilities.

the tank that i find the hardest to over extend, from being on both ends, is the V because it's tough, very fast (particularly with blitz), and can get doctrinal smoke. by comparison the VI B, which is exceedingly tough, i often see players over extend. i find that speed (pathing factors into this) is one of the biggest factors in over extension.

with all that said, what do you think the speed on the centaur should be, roughly?

first of all, the centaur is still more expensive than the ostwind by 40 mp. 40 mp is big enough to be important. This mean that the centaur should be superior to the ostwind.

DPS the ostwind and centuar are about the same. Centaur wins points for consistence. The centaur have a advantage in durability, but the speed difference is huge. Huge enough that the centaur should be 280 mp 100 fuel.

just give it the same speed as the panzer 4, or lower the centaur's cost.

i keep seeing people mention the mobility of the centaur but i don't understand why it's an issue. i personally find it annoying and it does make it easier to overextend the tank (which is a user issue, not a vehicle issue) but it's still faster the infantry and it's still fast enough to get around.

can someone please explain to my why the mobility is bad?

centaur top speed = 4.6, acceleration = 1.5

tiger top speed = 4.7, acceleration = 1.5

Relic designed every unit with one historically acurate feature in mind that defines the unit, then they think of other stats to make it more or less ballance. In this case this one defining feature is speed as centaurs were basically comets with underwhelming crusarder engine. Crusarder is way lighter tank you know and the engine was the same.

Also if you dont like even such a basic historical argument then lets say it would be just a boring ostwind copypasta without any special feature if you just buff the speed. Basically this is that one little thing that cannot be changed, move on to other ideas to improve the unit.

its current speed severely limit it survivability and the unit's usefulness.

beside, the centuar was slow for a british tank, but its liberty engine was still more powerful than the maybach used on the panzer4/ostwind. If we are going into reliability, it is going to open a whole new can of worm for the tiger and panther as well.

At least give the centaur similar speed as the ostwind/p4.

If you possibly think this unit needs any Buff it's because your used to abusing it and having a "click to win" unit. Let's compare to other AA units shale we? Because IT IS an AA unit (support). First it out classes US and SU AA in terms of armour and killing power, it is more accurate then the OH AA tank. And I would even like to say has more armour then the OH tank. Has more armour then the OKW AA, but I would say less killing power, then again doesn't require setup time. So no romeo does not need buff. It's fine where its at..

the thing is slower than a tiger. It can't run away from anything except for the super slow king tiger. If it doesn't have its overpowering dps then it needs the mobility to escape.
