It just seems like you're trying to make this game just like vCoH.
Before you can make a better game you have to make the game just as good. There's nothing wrong with copying vCoH's success and then improving from there. Don't fix what isn't broken.
There are a handful of things CoH2 did right, but they're lost amidst all the things it tried to do differently and ended up doing wrong. |
Let's talk Assault Nades
I can fix the building bug, and I can probably make it interruptible and/or refundable. I can even cut out some of the delay before the first volley. But it still sucks imo.
You're paying 25 more munitions for a bunch of extra grenades you don't need and a flashing warning light that tells your opponent to move and/or retreat.
How would you make them viable? Or admit Blitz is a one-tree wonder and leave them be? |
So, with that logic, every single add-on for CoH was pay to win? From what I remember you could play against Brits, even so you had never bought the add-on.
ToV was most certainly P2W, and it was the bad kind - imbalanced, with certain units offering staggeringly higher chances of winning. But even if Roos were balanced, it would still be P2W.
Whether the traditional expansion is P2W is another matter. By the strict definition I could see it argued that way, but traditional expansions have been around almost as long as RTS games themselves. DLC is new and egregious, expansions are not. |
So when you intentionally delay your BARs to get your opponent to think you're going M8, forcing him out of a heavy T1 and into a faster T2, that isn't outsmarting him? |
Let me tell you, no vcoh player have actually been really good at the game. Me an average player can spot tons of mistakes on top players streams when you play, some even click buttons instead of hotkeys, scroll the map all the time.. awful mechanics.
And you only had to move your eyes 3 inches to the right to see how absolutely wrong you were |
You don't get it. I'm not commenting on Industry or Tiger Ace or whatever the latest DLC shovelware is. I'm not saying they're winning 99% of games or 80% of games or even 55% of games. I'm not talking about balance.
I'm saying that even if they won exactly 50% of their games, they would still be pay to win. You have an extra option your opponent does not because you paid for it in out-of-game currency. That's an advantage. That's pay-to-win.
If you say otherwise your argument will inevitably boil down to "it's not pay-to-win because you can beat it" which is not what competitive gaming is about. |
The pro winrate @ GM ladders @ SC2 is 75%, i don't get your point. Bonjwa's come & go.
The top players having lower than "99% winrate" should be a good thing, yet in your post you see it like something bad. This means that the ladder, players etc are getting stimulated. Since they actually are getting some competition
The question is whether that competition is an equally skilled player |
well i guess you have a far more liberal definition of pay to win than most people.
No he doesn't, that is the definition. Pay for an advantage.
You're trying to shift the scale, trying to say that if "pay to win" loses 1 game out of 100 it's not a guaranteed win. Get a grip. |
1. You say to give them time to learn from their mistakes - why didn't they learn from vCoH's mistakes? OF's mistakes? ToV's mistakes? CoHO's mistakes? In fact they didn't just not learn from them, they repeated them. I'm not as optimistic that this is something time alone will fix. The track record isn't there.
2. As I asked Ciez & co. to point out to me a few pages back, nothing fundamental about the game is changing. They're improving balance yes, Relic is actually quite good at that imo. But I remember DoW2's 1.4 "There Is Only War" patch where in the name of improving balance they gutted the core game. You have to fix the fundamental gameplay before balance becomes an issue. |
Quick update 2.4
BUG FIXES
- Fixed a bug in the last version with WM Sniper rate of fire
GAMEPLAY
- Hedgerows can be burned down with Flamethrowers. It takes approximately 25 seconds with infantry Flamethrowers.
BALANCE
Wehrmacht
- Increased damage and suppression of PIV and Panther Vet 2 MG42s to match (new, nerfed) StuG and HT levels
- Reduced XP given by KCH from 4 to 3
- Reverted the damage of BARs vs Heroic Armour to vanilla values
Burnable hedgerows will be interesting. It's cool, makes sense, and fits with the EliteMod idea, and could even help US break out of the Ango bunker pin, but I'm not sure how it might affect Langres. |
