As for the problems of Soviet, I always feel thin on Manpower. Very strange for a group that infamously had a seemingly endless pool of manpower. As Germans, especially OKW, manpower seems plentiful. As Soviets though...
Honestly yeah. Soviets need a lot of manpower to make their stragies work. Their weapon teams bleed more, their infantry bleed more (cause of lower RA and higher bunch up) and they don't get free squads with tech.
7th man upgrade is a godsend for cost efficentcy but ultimately not worth 25fuel. |
Penals vs Okw vanilla isn't bad at all. I'd say vs Fusillers isn't bad either. Maybe the only real problem they have is the high model count which equals to a lot of bleed when tanks firing on them but that's not a real complaint.
Penals vs current meta of running into Falls all the time is horrible.
Forunately I haven't had to run into too many OKW players atm but I've been spectating the top 200 ladder games. Here's what i've noticed.
There's seem to be a strat revolving stalling to two Cps with a minimum T1 while banking up manpower. After 2CP, immediately go into spawning Falls on enemy cutoffs. Falls cloak into cover and destroy any soviet infantry that comes along. I've seen literal armies being replaced by Falls at this point. They win at every range vs the poor soviet line and even have invisible faust vs the T70, M5, or whatever light vehicles that comes their way. Whatever map that they lose in T1 which they know they are going to lose anyways.
Now it doesn't happen often, not every game has this strat and certainly not top 50. However, I ultimately think that it's very concerning

Soviets have a significantly easier time vs OKW. No early fausts, no early 222/251/250, significantly worse support weapons, no stuka AT strafe, no Tiger Ace.
They do have the regular tiger now. Also the Panzerfusiliers which get at snares right out of the gate and also out scale the Penals by quite a lot.
They also have a early 221 which has a supringly good match vs the scout car.
There's no way OKW has worse weapon teams. The raktten is super safe and easy to vet now. The MG34 is the 2nd worse MG in the game only 2nd TO THE MAXIM. The maxim you wont really get if you get penals because of backteching.
I'm gonna assume the benefit of the doubt that you're talking about the 120mm or the Dshka with weapons team though. I'm gonna have to admit those are better yes.

First I would like to say that the OST vs Soviets matchup at the moment seems to be fine. I think that matchup is in a good spot so let's leave it at that.
However against OKW's lineable now a days, there just seems to be SVT cons and B4 left as viable options.
Choosing SVT cons however, will leave no good armor option in the mid to late game.
Counter Attacks doctrine remain then the final good option for soviets as all the abilities it has is superb
Here's the thing though, soviets shouldn't be a B4 cheese faction. So I want to open a discussion on what's affecting Soviets in the matchup.
One thing I've noticed is... With the advent of Falls which beat Soviet infantry at any range as well as being able to faust Clown Cars and T70s, Suppression seems to be needed the most and that forces people to go Cons + T2. Which makes Penals less attractive than ever due to their lack of scaling and the early availability of superior infantry for the opposition.
Also, why is the Is-2 one CP more than other heavy tanks of its class? It doesn't seem to perform any better.

Why are they so expensive to call in if you have to reinforce them to full squad every time?
Even calling them from off map spawns with 3 models.
I understand the reasons back when this change was made but I think seeing how Airborne guards spawn with 6 man and Falls getting their own manpower reductions... It just doesn't seem right for them to cost an arm and a leg to use.

Rifles are the new sections lol
People are complaining about Volks vs Rifles but imagine if you're ost and now your Grens lose even harder.
I'd agree that rifles pretty much win every fight they get into close range. Even volks in light cover lose to charging rifles now.
However I don't think OKW players really adjusted to all the changes that came with this patch as well. I still see people bum rushing my cut off with their early units and expect to win every fight like prepatch.
Sturms can't charge anymore but their utility went way up with concussion grenades and their role is more of an anti CQC and anti blob unit now. Firestorm is a good doctrine now somewhat since Mp40 volks still shred rifles at that close range. Kubel destroys rifles out of cover and win against rifles even in cover. Falls are obiously being abused right now.
I think there's more ways to deal with rifles even though direct Volk spam was nerfed.

I tend to agree with that statement.
Actually many of the revamped commanders have been buff to much and are OP by comparison to non revamped commanders.
That was probably due do USF being UP and an attempt to fix factions issues by buffing commanders.
Yet progressively the faction itself was also buffed and now the Power level of USF commander is all over the place.
That's the thing about an updating game, power creep is constant especially for WFA lol. I actually think Rifles and Airborne are the two less used doctrines that just require minor tweaks to be extremely good. However they are usually in the background in comparison to other doctrines because of the constant revamps. We are really getting there with the commander updates though, love is being given here and there.
I seriously want to relook at Rifle Company and Airborne company again but right now the important thing is: Ez8 is a fking good tank don't touch it. |
I played a lot of RIfle Company lately so let me share my thoughts on the Ez8.
It's not the tank, it's still the doctrine. Let's compare it to a Top Teir USF doctrine Recon Support.
Recon support used to have many passive effects including rifleman sight bonus in cover. THat was all removed. Now, Recon Company has consistent impact in the game with its call in units, light vehicle timing, and even end game arty strike. This allows the player to wrestle control from early to mid game. Recon units work together and has various levels of viability on its own.
Rifle company is a mess of passive effects. There is no call in infantry because it is entirely dependent on base rifles. (Not even Cav rifles in this doctrine) None of Rifle Company's abilities have direct combat value except for the white phoros rounds which doesn't even kill models so it feels like a poor man's Butterfly bombs drop. There is no synergy in the doctrine as well. Rifle defenses contridicts sprint, and RE flamers is just not the meta. On top of that, there is nothing supporting the Ez8. Imagine if the Ez8 replaced the 76mm in the Mechnized doctrine. Calvary rifles charging with Ez8s with combined arms to boost the Ez8's (relatively slow compared to other shermans) firerate. That would be a sick combination. The Ez8 in any other doctrine will shine because it's the same price as a P4 J but has extra health and tons of utility. However, it cannot carry RIfle Company by itself. Rifle doctrine has too many passive effects and nothing to really make it stand out besides the Ez8. Therefore when people are playing the doctrine the only thing that's judged is Ez8.
On a side note, as a USF player I do notice the Ez8 doesn't pen as hard as Jacksons and can't AI as well as regular Shermans. In fact I'm pretty sure I'd perfer the regular sherman and Sherman 76 in most cases because the 76 actually has better performance vs armor with its faster reload. And regular HE shell Sherman with bulldozer upgrade has better performance vs infantry with simular amounts of survivability.
Tl dr : Rifle Company still sucks and not the Ez8
