I was talking about Medium Tanks primarily. The eighty-eight would certainly be a fearsome anti-tank weapon. As for the Tiger itself, it depends on the game's exact time frame. Tiger I's were deployed at the very end of 1942 in single-digit numbers, by the start of 1943, they have 11 Tiger I's in Africa.
Well,as far as I know the Comet came too late into the war and was then used primarily for parades. But somehow lelic thought it should be the best tank ingame, so I doubt that historical realism matters too much, as long as at least one tiger was used, they would probably be ingame, too. |
About the Calliope, I think it needs some delay between firing and impact, so that you have a chance to evade the rockets at least. If you hear it shooting it is usually too late already (Pwerfer and Stukas on the other hand are not so hard to dodge in comparison). While in theory you can (and must) go pretty close with a werfer, the calliope can do the same with lesser risk thanks to its decent armour and on short range there is literally no chance to evade a barrage usually resulting in the death of at least one squad. I really liked how the changes to the land mattress were implemented, now you have time to react without the mattress losing its area denial ability. Something similiar should be done to the Calli, it should remain useful but not a on-click wipe no-brainer. |
Yep! If we go by 1942, the early model M4 Sherman with the 75mm Gun would be the overall best medium tank. The Panzer IV Ausf. F2 would beat it in penetration, but the low armor of the F2 would help offset that. Even then, I can only find one source stating just 101 Panzer IV Ausf F2 / G were deployed to Africa, making them exceptionally uncommon. A German faction's main tank would be a Panzer III F/G/H/J with a 50mm L/42 gun, or being generous a Panzer III L/M with a 50mm L/60 gun.
Wouldn't the 88 Flak be the king of the battle field in terms of anti-tank? |
Oh, and I think Penals are worse than before. They still have insane dps and surviveability, but now they are not even punishable with light vehicles. Soviets dont even have to think about At and then they can simply spam the incredibly cheap t34s. Literally everygame you see Penals into t34 spam, with occasional 120mms and katyushas. Its just not fun at all to play against Soviets, since you always see the same. Dont remember when I saw a maxim for the last time. But why would you get one when penals just outright destroy (or rather humiliate?) everything on the field? |
Its just good meta doc, like ostheer with ele + dive bomb, like tiger + OP planes, like commanpanther, like JT doc. Thats why you see it so many, but i whanna remember thatsoviet dont have armor in tiers, dont have elite infatry, like another factions, so go doc for soviet is life, no doc, no win.
I agree, and I believe that those "all-in-one" commanders are pretty stupid. Instead of having to think about your strategy and how to utilize your commander, you can just use those overly effective commanders. What is the point of having a strong unit PLUS all the things you need to counter the natural counters (like the Ele + Stuka)? |
Also, imo there is something very stupid about how often we see the Guard Motor commander in 2v2 regardless of map, enemies and general situation. Simply spam some penals, then go over into 1-2 120mms and later spam t34-85s. With the mark target ability you shouldnt have too much trouble getting rid of enemy heavies. This commander is just all-around good with excellent abilities throughout. Just arty is missing but can be made up for with 120mms and Katys. |
If I'm not mistaken that's the game where we had a balance discussion afterward right?
Yeah but A) Stgs will be spammed anyway at only 60 muni (it was a blunder on our part, I think my teammate was out of his depth) and B) volks blobs really should be easily countered (easily as in not having to field suppression out the ass and covering each other, as I do now with stated LT build, or spamming rocket arty, which comes too late anyway and is doctrinal for brits and usf), since they are very easily made and won with. If it was that game, we did even manage to pin you guys to a medhq but blobs of volks combined with a rak pushed my M15 back each time, even with a .50 covering, which really shouldn't happen, since they're both dedicated suppression units.
Yeah, it was. Well, especially in early Volks are not very good but average at best. Actually that is the time that USF and UKF infantry should push back OKW (the early game is decided by Sturms, not Volks). And its not like allies dont have the tools to dispose of German infantry, like double lmgs/double bars, various indirect fire option, strong ai tanks, etc. |
You have to consider though that the Brummbär needs a lot of micro due to ground attack. It is also very expensive and comes quite late, plus it offers no real at. The problem is that the Ostwind in general is very disappointing, while the Brummbär is actually very effective versus infantry. In addition, all those units (like the Sherman Bulldozer) are very inconsistent, they either do nothing or wipe a whole squad out of nowhere. |
Might just be today, but it seems like volks blobs are a lot more potent now. I've played several teamgames today and everyone has just been wiping the floor with volks blobs. I've tried mgs, I've tried indirect, I've even made a fucking m15. Needless to say, all were ineffectual. Did they nijabuff axis last patch or something? Or is it just me?
Hey, we also played a game today, a 2v2. Well, the problem in our game was that you allowed us to have double ammunition so we could happily spam STGs. However, Volks are a very potent unit, which needs some changes. The veterancy should be changed maybe since they are very durable and also the flame nades should be taken into considerations. But when you speak about blob, you should not forget that OKW has no other infantry unit until late when the Flak HQ is up (or you get the overperforming Panzerfüsiliere).
Just in general, I feel more relaxed when playing OKW instead of Ost since your infantry (aka the Volks) are not as squishy as Ost infantry. |
Yeah Pgrens are so op, especially when they melt away under double bren fire or similiar things... |
