Basically I just need the commandos but I have to get all that crap first before I can get a commando sqaud. I don't like the Air Landing officer because its only a 4 man sqaud so I'd rather get commandos but I can't without first getting the ALO. Plus the glider takes damage and can't be repaired after it crash lands and after it dramatically and loudly announces its presence to your opponent. And once it's destroyed that's it no more commandos without calling in another one. Honestly I hate how that mechanic works with Vanguard Regiment. Then why are you picking Vanguard? You've got three different options to get Commandos: why pick the one you don't like? In: COH2 Balance

Most especially, obviously, the heaviest vehicles will lose out because more units will become a lot more likely to penetrate its frontal armour up close compared to before and guarantee close-up rear shots to penetrate across the board for medium tanks. It probably wouldn't too change much for situations where one player has much better positioning (though it would probably gut the rare edges cases where a good flank tragically bounces a shot anyway)...but the ropier fights between would definitely get a lot more deadly. Slow vehicles that can't simply reverse away from mediums are hurt the most, particularly heavy tanks. Those would require support to keep medium swarms out of point blank range. You could easily compensate them with a main gun buff though. In: COH2 Balance

People don't build good units if they can build great units that do the same thing. The M3 is a good unit, but most of what it does is also done by the much cheaper, much earlier arriving WC51. Same with the 76mm. Why get two 76mms when you could get an uparmoured 75mm and a Jackson? In: COH2 Balance

USF has a smoke mortar, smoke grenades on their engineers and officers and smoke on the majority of their vehicles. Soviet doesn't, hence smoke grenades on the Shock Troops themselves. This is ideal conditions for the Panther. Tested 40 times. 36 Sherman wins. 28 Sherman wins with both Shermans surviving. I'd hardly call a 90% chance of victory 'largely ineffective'. The maximum chance for a Vet 1 Jackson HVAP round to bounce off a Vet 2 Panther (ie: one with skirts) is 12.6%. Without the skirts, that chance is 3.8%. Possible? Yes. Probable? No. Once the Jackson gets its veterancy penetration bonus, it's guaranteed to penetrate any Panther at any range with basic rounds. In: COH2 Balance

The problem isn't the 76mm: it's the uparmouring upgrade it's bundled with. That upgrade makes standard Shermans able to reliably beat enemy medium tanks, leaving the 76mm without a niche to fill. Those two abilites tread on each other's toes hard and shouldn't really be in the same commander. In: COH2 Balance
