Cons are only 10% more durable than volks. The actual DPS of VG should be lower then the theoretical. The reason is overkill, VG need to do 84 damage to kill a model so there actual DPS should be around 5% less (around 8.605) In: COH2 Balance

Not a single reason. There is no trade off no drawback no incentive to not upgrade. At. All. Ever... Although I do not disagree with post in general, I have to point out that ST44 take all weapon slots (contrary to PPsh/LMG42) the VG can not pick up weapons. They definitely overperform both against their peers due to their vet and their counters for their price thus making them into an extremely potent unit which is why we see so many of them. ... Not that I don't think they should have an upgrade however, I think they should upgrade to an MG34/MG42. . Their veterancy was nerfed and the bonuses are currently lower than other mainline infantry like conscript. Lmgs for 5 men squad is problematic because the unit's DPS does not drop fast enough when losing models. In: COH2 Balance

They had shock armies (reenforced armies for breakthrough offensives). Your "ingame shock units" are CQC-Specialists. Relic had named them for unknown reasons "shock troops" but they are nothing compared to historical "shock units" like german ww1 Stoßtruppen or other "shock units". That is incorrect Soviet had troops that where task with typical role of shock troops, to create gap in the enemy frontline. Actually their hole military theory depended in "shock" operation and that this reason they created "shock" armies. You are correct in game shock troops are CQC Specialists. The trouble being any over-performance of this unit is totally overshadowed by the outrageous performance of units like the Scot and Brummbar. Additionally, the easy access to, and pervasive allied meta of using light vehicles helps cover up/make up for any base main line infantry deficient in performance on the allies side. Note: im not talking about any commander specific or other elite infantry, only basic infantry you have access to early in the game. VG's ST44 are badly designed (and SVT also). The main problem with the ST44 VGs is that their performance is too good at all ranges and thus limits the benefits of relative positioning. In addition anti garrison weapon should be limited to specialized units and not mainline infantry. On the other hand their vet bonuses are inferior to other mainline infantry. (edit to clarify that I was referring only to Vg ST44) In: COH2 Balance

I guess that in your opinion assault grenadier fit Ostheer "Defensive Doctrine" and shock troops the Soviet "Defensive Tactics" for the same reason, although I respect your opinion I happen to have another. Shock troops in real life and through out history are by definition offensive oriented units yet I am pretty sure that in occasion they found themselves defending positions and probably very effectively since they where elite troops. The real issues with shock troops in "urban defense" are not the names. I have explained them in feedback thread. In: Lobby
