Puzzling title. "Cannon" means high damage dealt.
In that case "cannon" means design of them, no damage - poor reality, where grens can't stand against tommies or yanks, and unlike OKW you can't call Obers for to punish your opponent for relying on infantry - Grens (without doctrines) are your only choise of AI infantry, cos PzGrens... well... cost too much, just a bit less fragile, not really good as AI unit. |
Well, everybody knows, that Ostheer weak point was and still is infantry. Soviet infantry goes up, specially with incoming patches, and that's great (now they will only need to fix the Maxim or add some kind of HMG bunker/position), but why not to do the same for Ostheer infantry, which is also in pretty poor state?
A lot of times people suggested to add 5th ubermenschsoldat into squad, but... that was already used for UKF (and what for, actually? even 4 men tommies squads tearing everything apart in late, never used that upgrade and they were still dominative). I think, there should be some work done with grens late game accuracy or/and with LMG-42 stats. Cos really, it's pretty funny to look, how 2 Tommy squads take absolutely no damage from my 2 LMG-42ed squads of grens, while tommies just sniping my troops with each 3rd shot. I guess, there are more problems with tommies themselvs, than with grens (cos really, mainline infantry with lowest for mainline troops recived accuracy (or target size) stats and with really nice rate of fire and their own accuracy on guns), but... grens still could be improved. I think, that there should be veterancy modificators to grens accuracy, which will allow them to... kinda ignore recived accuracy bonuses of veterancy of opponent infantry squads. It might sound OP, but... for such fragile 4 men squad, which main power is ability, to do high damage from range - it's fair deal. No need to improve their survivability and ruin their design - support their glasscannon style design with such improvement, and... maybe grens won't suck so much in late against overveted tommies, yankees or vanyas...
And one more - LMG-42. It also has awful accuracy, really, which really breaks all profits from gaining that gun for squad. Seriously, it's better even not to give them that LMG and keep 1 more mauser for squad, cos mausers do way more DPS, than LMGs (from my own experience, obviously, but that happens almost all the time with me, so...). And more than that - when my gren squad takes droped BaR or Bren, they usualy start to deal real damage, so - problem is in LMG-42. Would be nice to have that fixed, give to that LMG more accuracy too, so it would worth to buy it. |
MG-34 is more or less decent HMG (specially for it's price), but... it becomes really good with veterancy, and problem is - it grows up enourmously slow, almost like FlammHetzer. It's really strange to see, that powerful enough already Vickers gains stars almost immideatly, after killing some units, and MG-34, which is not so awesome, but becomes so with stars, has such slow veterancy grow speed. I think, veterancy income rate should be increased or veterancy requirements should go lower for that HMG, cos... it's pretty poor one and faster vet gain could be a way of turining it into something really useful, specially for late. But right now, it's better to get and build HMG bunkers, if you need to hold the line, not to spend 230 MP on unit, which is poor and which won't become better later, like some units do (conscripts, for example).
P.S. "Small" offtop, but don't want to make additional topic for that. Since our new balance team is so brave, that decided to give to Penals PTRSes (which I suggested to do way long before, when I wasn't banned on official, and explained wide and deep, why it would be good idea), why not to fix another old but still annoying as hell soviet problem - design of Maxim HMG. Just like with Penals and T1 design in general, you will understand, sooner or later, that such HMG design sux, no need to try to keep it as it is, fixing small issues, like people tried to do with Penals before. Just turn it into casual HMG with big good arc of fire, very long setup/packup time and maybe bigger supression area (and gun teleportation too). Simple as that, USSR is uniqe enough faciton already, copied HMG won't cause any troubles, but will make Maximspam and Maximrush way less popular (and even possible, imagine Vickers or MG-42 spam/rush, lol) issue and will give to USSR more options for defensive AI gameplay, which is really required, since no bunkers, no FlakHQs, and no other good defensive AI units. USSR in offensive faction enough already, time to make it a bit more universal and a bit more viable in defensive gameplay. Some people will say, that it will be "Maxim nerf" - fine, let it be Maxim nerf. But in that way, it will be buff for USSR as faction in general. And it will be fair and good for everyone - less headache for whiners of "maximspamOPOPOP" and more versality in gameplay for USSR. |
FG-42s could get some accuracy improvement, that's all they need, for to be good in their current role - glasscannon unit. In everything else - they are monsters already. |
Would be really great to get some bulletins for OKWs LeFH, maybe copies of Ost LeFH - same Vet +, Reloading + and Construction time +. Could be something else, but... those 3 would be really great. Specially faster construction - Spios build that gun soooooo slow... |

I have one small, but important question - how Ost Arty Officier buff aura ability affects on howitzers and does it affects at all?
And small suggestion - make "coordinated barrage" ability cost lesser. Seriously, 80 ammo for such ability... In CoH 1 it costed 0 and everything was fine. 30-50 ammo would be much more fair price. |

And since you apparently didn't realise that there are two different Axis factions, I will apply the same ignorance to show the stupidity of your post: Allies have 4 officers right now (LT, Captain, Major, Airlanding Officer).
And soviets don't need more buffs? I guess, they need, and a lot.
And Allies have only 2 real officiers, actually - Major and Airlanding. LT is totally same riflemen squad, and Capitan is riflemen squad with pretty strange abiltiies, but without aura-effect.
In any case, adding Commissar squad or Command KV-1 would be very helpful. |
