Only Tigers were deployed in southern theater, panthers never seen combat elsewhere then eastern and western fronts. Any 1943+ deployed designs never were used in Africa.
When I now checked the facts, it looks like that I remembered wrong and mixed the Tiger and Panther in my first message in the subject. I should have written that the Tiger I were used in Africa and Italy, but some Panthers (and at least one Elephant) in Italy. The Panthers were used at least in the battle of Anzio. So Relic could use all these tanks in the German/Italian faction, if they also look at the battles in Italy. |
How about you will back your claim that tank that was introduced to service on EASTERN FRONT just before African theater was concluded was in African campaign.
This is the only panther was was in africa at that time
I know that the Panthers saw action in battle of Kursk.
I remember that I have read it somewhere that they used both Tigers and Panthers in the end of the campaign of 1943 in North Africa because Hitler insisted on it, but of course I can remember wrong. It could be that they used only tigers. Nevertheless, we have at least tigers, which saw action in North Africa, and they can thus be used for a combined German/Italian faction 1941-1945. It would be better, because in this case, that faction would not have the fast Panther tank (as Ostheer and OKW), but only a slow Tiger and even more slower Elephant. But I can try to check out if the Panther was used or not. |
Panthers weren't in Africa.
They were, also Tigers were. Just google for the pictures. |
desert jsut doesnt fit in coh because of lack of cover etc. Besides desert maps would look ugly and boring and seriously, no one wants to play with Italians.
Read the novel Killing Rommel by Steven Pressfield or see the movie Captain Corelli's Mandolin with Nicolas Cage or visit Crete where the Germans make a parachute assault, maybe you start to like the idea. Besides there are good desert maps in Steam Workshop and someone likes to use the Osttruppen in this game (which I see as a parallel to the Italians).
But Rommel was a warrior from a bygone era, an old-fashioned knight for whom the virtues of chivalry and respect for the foe are indivisible from the passion for victory (Pressfield 2008, p. 92). Everyone wants to play with him and his troops. And there are good cover in Central Italy, maybe you have heard of the Gustav Line. |
The desgin could be based on the German and Italian forces in 1944-1945 in Italy.
I agree. The easiest way to make a faction, is to make one which concentrates on battles in North Africa and Italy during the years 1941-1945. For example battles of El Alamein, Sicily, Monte Cassino. They also used Panthers in North Africa, and Tigers and Elephants in Italy, so Relic do not need to make that faction without good tanks. But I like to see the 88 Flak and German motor cycle troops in this faction, in same way Rommel used them in his campaign in North Africa. |
And honestly, the t-34 was not really a good tank in 1941/ Why do i say this? Very unreliable.
I'm not sure if Heinz Guderian would have agreed with everything what you wrote here. If you read his book "Panzer Leader", he presents there some different thoughts about the subject. His opinion about the T-34 was different. The tank was so good that the Germans wanted to copy it. They managed to beat the T-34 because the German tank crews and leaders were much better in 1941 than their Sovjet counterparts. But the tank in itself was very good. |
The T-34/76 was the best tank in the world, in 1941. It's armour could deflect nearly everything the Germans had en masse. Pak 36, Pak 38, Panzer III 36mm Guns, Panzer III 50mm Guns, Panzer IV 75mm Infantry Support Guns. Only the Pak 40 and Flak 88 could penetrate it at decent range. It could also penetrate the Panzer III and Panzer IV Tanks.
In 1942 the Germans altered the Panzer IV significantly, doubling its armour and giving it a Pak 40 based gun. The T-34/76 had lost it's advantages against them. And obviously the Tiger I had no trouble with the T-34/76.
The T-34/85 didn't improve the armour situation as far as I know, it just allowed the T-34 to engage on equal footing with the Panzer IV, and Tiger I if it was close enough.
Yes, I know this. I said that T-34/76 was the best tank because it was extremely cost efficient. The Russians beat the Axis by pure numbers. I know that the kill rate for the Tiger Battallions was 9850 kills and 1715 losses during the years 1942-1945. In Finland we say: "One Finn (in combat) is like 10 Russians, but what happens when the eleventh Russian soldier comes?"
Therefore I think that the Relic's answer was really funny: "T34 Population increased from 8 to 10 to prevent overwhelming numbers of the tank", because the Russians did just that and won the war. |
This is purely from a historical perspective:
The T-34/76 tank was the best tank of WW2, and according to some lists, even the best tank of all times. This tank made a great impression even on Heinz Guderian. Therefore I do not understand why this historical fact is not reflected in the game. I don't expect to see so much of this tank in the game, if it is placed in T4 and has a population cap of 10. |
I agree that the Schreck spam should have less effect, because now you can wipe almost everything with it. |
I am bad at micro, so I am not so good in 1vs1. But I figured out that the best way to start mathematically with the Brits, because of the manpower bleed, is to build 2 MGs and then upgrade to 5 man squad, and then build a 5 man Tommy squad. In this way you earn 35 manpower, because the second Tommy comes with a 5 man squad. Does this start work in 1vs1 games? |
