Why did Mr smith feel this was a good change? Especially with the British faction where something like the 17pdr takes away 25 pop alone

Command panther is 16 pop for record, comet is now one less pop than the King tiger at 21

I'm not sure about anyone else but the new nerfed comet is not exactly KT material...

All popcap should scale according to a unit's real usefulness. Otherwise, you create no-brainer build-everytime units. If a low-popcap unit has no unit limit, then you've created a spam-monster (see live-version Comet).

I will concede that the Comet popcap looks bad when compared to a list of vehicles. However, I would argue that this is not an issue with the Comet. This is an issue with call-in heavy vehicles in general.

In particular, I am referring to the following vehicles, whose popcap is a complete joke:
- King Tiger (21)
- Jagtiger (21)
- Elefant (20)
- IS-2/Tiger (19)
- Command Panther (18) <-- Note that you can no longer have a CP AND a King Tiger at the same time
- Specialist Churchills (18)
- Sturmtiger (18)
- Pershing (16!!!)

However, if you skim the list, above, each of these vehciles is limited to one. Giving the Comet a bad popcap value means that we would be turning a blind eye to Comet spam.

The popcap of the following vehicles is also a joke, however:
- Stug (8!!!)
- OKW Panther (16) <- The OKW panther is actually a potent generalist, unlike its useless OST sibling
- Callope (12!!!)

^ Those vehicles look pretty bad on the modes you can spam them. This is why we will be fixing them when their time comes and they enter the scope.

Compare each one of the forementioned vehicles to the OST Panzer4, which has 12 popcap, and you will see what I am talking about.

We will also be fixing over-pop-costed vehicles and units. Again, this cannot come without Relic's blessings.

20 popcap is very fair for a durable (and mobile unit) that has access to the utility abilities that it has. Build 1-2 of them, and you will have a fun time. Build 3 or more and you will suffer.

We want to address all popcap-related issues (6 popcap pfussies, lol) as soon as possible. However, we haven't been allowed to normalize popcap yet, by Relic. In the meantime, we can only chip in at whatever enters scope.

I think the standard base are; (ShemanUS, PIV WEHR, Crowmwell) 12pop.
Therefore heavy (IS2, Tiger, etc.) 24pop
And super heavy must be a risk in cost/pop (more higher than heavy)

You talk about baby steps yet nerf specific certain units to the ground, now the comet is joining the vanilla churchill...

Post nerfs the comet just feels like an overpriced easy 8 with 20 pop

Main gun nerf and WP change would have been enough, so why nerf comet pop to 20 while leaving all Axis pop the same (like you admit Panther is 16! or Easy 8 14! pop)

I don't understand why you decide to mess with population at all when all axis tanks stay as is, are you saying easy 8 spam or panther spam is not a thing? Because after 300 or so 2vs2's I can tell you it very much is.

The "out of scope" excuse seems rather silly on that regard, just saying

Because we have to start somewhere, and the Comet is the most blatant case of under-pop unit out of all the ones I mentioned. It is also the only unit out of the list which we are allowed to touch at this point.

If we didn't start from the Comet, then everybody would complain "How come KT is 26 popcap and limited to 1, when the Comet is 16 popcap and spammable?".

The way the scope works, is we adjust units when they enter the scope, while making sure we aren't making them UP or OP (just try the Comet for yourself in the mod).

Think for yourself. For how long has Shock Troops, KV-1, etc been useless for? Exactly. We don't want to wait that long for the Comet to re-enter scope so as to make re-adjustments. We also don't want to make every single patch a Comet patch.

Once the nerf-fest ends, we will eventually be allowed to buff long-forgotten useless stuff; not before. Thus, we're making maximum usage of the flexiblity allowed to us by the scope.

PS: We're not overnerfing the Comet, either. We are bringing the Comet down closer to Soviet/OST standards.

So long as the scope keeps going and it doesn't get left high and dry in a halfway state again I am all for any changes that bring us towards balance.

One should not compare population requirements of vehicles cross faction too much imo. It's all about the "real usefulness" as Mr Smith eloquently put it.

I think Mr.Smith and the team are doing the right thing and doing very well. The changes are the parts for the ultimate balance even though they are not perfect now. What we really need to do is provide suggestions or ideas, let them do the job step by step. Complaining can NOT help anything.

I'm with Mr. Smith on this, population cap should reflect usefulness. It's very obvious that the Comet was the pinnacle of British Armor and even stood out amongst the other factions. The Comet had decent armor, good mobility, high penetration, powerful anti-infantry, and at Vet1 it gained an AT Gun hard counter. It's an everything* tank!

So to counter people comprising their tank armies out of just Comets, rather than making the price exorbitant or nerfing it greatly, they up the population on it to reflect its power.

Comet also recieved multiple nerfs. Now OKW panther should beat it 1v1 and also OST 2 stugs do wonder

I would try to do 2 thigs on Comet (with Current state)

1 Remove Commander.
2) Reduce rear armor.
