Yea, I know it's free but I don't want to look at Hello Kitty penistikas just to have these skins on; I'd rather they were official and curated. |
I'd buy that for a dollar.
Or 5.99 eur for the whole set. Relic, take heed. |
CAS is not fun to play against and it's too effortless to use. Most of the time I can appreciate being outplayed, but CAS just presents itself as frustrating and practically uncounterable. Also, wiping base buildings with recon + AT strafe + bomb is nothing but silly. There's nothing you can do about it. |
How about giving the caches a flat bonus that is split among the players? That way there's an incentive to build them but it doesn't scale up as much in team games. |
I have lobbied the Luftwaffe faction(in case ol' Göring is politically too suspect to mention outright) based on the HG Panzer Division, the Luftwaffe Felddivisions and other rear-echelon training and replacement forces at any time there has been speculation of possible German factions facing the alleged Brits coming up in an expansion.
I think this mash-up would serve as the obvious and best choice as a new faction, and will attempt to outline the reasons why I think so in this post. I aim to perhaps inspire Relic to consider this proposal.
The Italian front is rarely covered in the RTS genre or games in general. It would be a good source of inspiration for a new campaign for the Brits. The Luftwaffe faction would be a very fitting opponent in this campaign.
There is plenty of iconic German materiel that hasn't been used yet that would be very appropriate for this faction. The HG division used Panzer III's in Italy even in the later stages of the war, also as Flammpanzer III's. The 88's are obviously appropriate. The HG are specifically mentioned as having used the StuH42. The LW Ground forces unit is a carry-over from the original. Wirbelwinds are in the code already. Fallschirmjägers could be the elite infantry, either buildable or droppable. LG 40's could serve a double role as AT guns and mortars etc..
Italian armour and French Beutepanzers (Somua, Char B2) could be commander-specific call-ins.
The Luftwaffe offers an aesthetically different take on the German troops. Instead of the ubiquitous field grey and tunics, the basic look of this faction would be field blue and jump smocks. Instead of costly heavy armour, the faction would mostly use obsolete, cheap and captured models or fragile specialist types of armour. Elite but fragile long-range fallschirmjägers would contrast with the osttruppen-like builder/core infantry LW Jägers. If need be, the HG also had basic panzergrenadiers that could be used, depending on what direction the faction would be taken.
The faction offers a way of having older materiel in the late stage of the war otherwise portrayed by the game and requires few crossover models from other factions to work. While the basic campaign and some MP maps might be Italian-themed, the fronts otherwise mix quite well, since the Luftwaffe and HG did fight alongside Heer troops on all fronts.
Poll added to measure popularity of the proposal.
::EDIT:: Tried to make a poll but failed!

Doesn't anyone else appreciate the incredible sight it gets at Vet 2 / 3? I usually try to get a few canisters in just to vet it up and then use it only for recon for the rest of the game. |
Would Honour Guard be like the LSSAH division or what?
I thought they were merely supposed to be seasoned veterans, "alte Häsen" I believe they would have been called. That doesn't really work as a name in-game, though. |
I also would "buy the shit" out of any historical or even slightly speculative markings, decals, flags and whatever. But now that they replace national markings, probably not.
I don't mind that bayonet decal as a decal, it looks like a possible decal for a unit, just that it's in the "wrong" place. |
I really liked them. I just wish the national emblems didn't get overwritten. |
Awww.. The decal replaces the balkenkreuz? I thought it would be placed where the divisional emblems were. |
