The Stug could use more HP. 480 is really low |
^^
I've seen the B4's anti-tank strike only work if the Opfor is already in front of your base, and you have a clear line of sight. Then you use the KV-1s to stall the German tanks. This buys time for the B4 to shift into position.

Shock troops would be an amazing but probably OP unit if they had AT grenades..
They would have to get nerfs elsewhere to compensate for THAT.. |
I've played with all the Soviet infantry extensively.
The stats thread is stickied on this forum so you can check it out.
With Guards, they have the advantage of 1.5 armor vs 1 for penals, conscripts.
As far as anti-infantry go, they stink without the DP upgrade. The DP upgrade is decent, but inferior to the LMG of the grenadiers or the G43. Their munitions grenade is overpriced for its effect but necessary.
They are probably around the same or better than penals in a firefight if they have the DP (60 muni) upgrade.
Personally, I find them to be supporting infantry like conscripts. The core of my army is conscripts, and then I'll have 1 or 2 Guards squads to fight light vehicles or chip down/button German tanks. The Guards' AT are good against the rear of German T3.
It is simply uneconomical to have an army of penals or Guards. You will be wasting a lot of manpower, pop cap, and munitions on a specialized unit. |
Just my frank opinion: I have to say that I have been loyal to the multiplayer since release, but I barely played the single player. I played a little of first story mission and I stopped, and then scrolled through the rest in youtube. Boring.
I sampled a few TOW missions and found them boring and a waste of time.
I find the comp stomp TOW to be amazingly boring overall, and frankly I am surprised that there are people who are buying the TOW DLC and playing it..
Even more commander and units would be more interesting than another TOW, IMO. Sorry for sounding rude here, but that's my actual opinion of things. |
I think the B4 is quite bad and not worth the cost. The anti-tank mode is terribly slow and unless the other player is asleep at the wheel, is usually worthless.
Use the resources and get a Rocket launcher truck. (far, far more useful). |
To the OP's query:
The SVT was issued in far greater numbers than the G43. Either entire battalions were equipped or they were spread out. Soviet infantry OOBs show one or two of them in infantry squads. Most obvious was Soviet Naval infantry. They were equipped with large numbers of SVTs (instead of mosins) after being taken out of their ships.
The Germans never had enough G43s to outfit entire battalions so they were 'spread out'. Very often, it was one or two of them per section if available or none at all.
Effectively, both weapons were around the same and many were issued with scopes. The German directive was to give them to best shooters so it was their designated marksman weapon. I don't know about the SVT but it's likely that it was treated in the same way.
Both the SVT/G43 scoped also found their way into sniper squads. Sometimes, snipers would use the semi and other times, the bolt-action. |
Actually I find that elefants have a serious Achilles' heel.
Engine Damage.
I always use conscripts at them, and usually 2 but preferably 3. Throw At grenades at the rear in succession, and eventually you'll get an engine damage. Try to get heavy engine damage if possible. Then use whatever else you have in your arsenal to kill it.
The IL-2 bomb strike will bring it down to less than half health or so.
SU-85 and Zis rear flanking will bring it down.
Zis guns will bring it down.
IS-2's will bring it down in a rather exploitative way: Get the IS-2 to the rear of the Elefant, and charge it into the elefant. Even without engine damage, you can hug the elefant and stop it from firing at your IS-2 by stopping it from turning. The IS-2 will fire shots into it's rear and destroy it.
The key thing to exploit is the Elefant, unlike the ISU-152...is terrible against infantry and Zis guns. You can approach them with these first. |
T70 and the T3 halftrack are my least used units in the game...
So combos:
-T-34/76+ SU-76. SU-76 is good at sniping Panzer IV's and Ostwinds.
This would weaken German T3 (panzer IV/Ostwind)and give them more incentive to go German T4 in 1 v 1. The SU-76 underperforms against the Big Cats and shooting their frontal is like chipping paint.
-SU-85+ Halftrack or SU-85 + T-70
Halftrack in the rear of the SU would reinforce infantry around the SU and provide suppression around the SU. It would also provide anti-air.
or
T-70 could scout or defend the SU. But it'll be very vulnerable to RPGs/tanks in direct fire so I would opt for the halftrack. |
That could work too.
My intent for this is to buff t3's AT abilities and give T4 better AI.
SU-85s are very vulnerable to panzershrecks/panzerfaust flanking. |
