Am I only one finding it hilarious people started crying about KV-8 when it got turned into a soviet Brummbar - unit which not only hardcounters AT infantry and AT guns but also can fight off enemy mediums? Not that it's a good thing considering Brum is clearly OP
Giving KV-8 T-70 gun with a slower reload and ability to use it alongside flamethrower would be far more balanced in the end - at least unit would have clear definitions what it counters and what its countered by, intead of a unit which can take on armor or infantry with a single click switch weapons
Also if you look at stats of 45mm gun and its reload speed its obvious that its almost same pen and DPS of KV-1 except KV-8 also can switch to a flamethrower. Like I said before - these last round changes were either rushed due to no time for proper testing or clearly not very well thought out
In fact, the KV-8 and T-70 are the same gun (45-mm tank gun 1932/38, 20-K). But the KV-8 would have a faster reload: because there are three people in the turret - the commander, the gunner and the loader. In the T-70, one person makes three roles. But if simultaneous use of the main gun and flamethrower is realized, then the rate of fire from the gun will be reduced - due to the constant change of the gunner’s focus. If not, the KV-8 should have a higher rate of fire than the T-70.
I agree, the KV-8 needs to be toned down or the unit has to be A LOT MORE expensive (200 fuel).
I’m looking at how people claim that the KV-8 - OP has an increase in fuel. If its characteristics will be like Cherchel-crocodile, and will fire from the flamethrower and the main weapon simultaneously - raise the price. Otherwise, this buff will not change the KV-8 gameplay at all. Only slightly improve performance.
kv-8 can win vs p4 on every range and can wipe 2 paks easily. Price of the unit is around 135 fuel if i recall correctly. This unit become bloody opieOP right now OR a huge price increase. Right now is really close to become a small Croc for 100 fuel less.
Tests are not always correct without a real game. As I said above, I spent
several test match with KV-8 and any tank and AT weapon penetrates it. No penetration is the exception rather than the rule.
If KV8 really gets that hard buff, the Commando-Panzer 4 should perform like sherman with high-explosive.
And german incendiary bombs and mortar shells should get a buff too! With 45mun one mortar shell should perform like one grenade of soviet fire-bomb-ability. And the incendiary-bombing-run of Ostheer should also perform like that ability. They are absolutely useless.
Edit: Is that a bug, or why you need to upgrade the repair-bunker? Nonsense.
This buff does not matter. At the time when the KV-8 comes from the Germans already have a Panther. If the KV-8 came along with the Pz-4, yes it was strong, but not OP. I think this buff will not make it more playable. On the test video, Pz-4 did not break through it, but I tried it in a test fight and it punches everything: Pz-4, Stug-3, PAK-40. Maybe this is just my experience of the game, but I still do not see the point in the KV-8, it is economically unprofitable, I would prefer to wait a bit and buy Katyusha + SU-85 - this will be more effective.
@Crecer: I think the main problem with your airborne commander is the T-38.
Relic wont add new models. I would welcome any new weapon for the game
but cant see Relic spending money and time into new weapons and animations.
I also see a problem here: if Relic gave advanced tools for CoH2 as for CoH1, then the fans probably created a bunch of material in five years of life of the game that could be used in the patch. I think the fans would not refuse Relic to use their material in a patch.

So any new commander had to be done with ingame weapons and content.
So that is the reason why i tried to look into the models and think about new combinations.
For the soviet airborne commander it should be easy to implement the 45mm at gun with adjusted stats (to be honest i think the ingame model is the M-42 version) or other heavy weapons like soviet MGs, Mortar ect ect.
To be honest there is no soviet glider at all so at the end would need reskinned british gliders.
I'm still hoping for the soviet airborne forces because out of my view it is one of those red army units everyone has forgotten.
I absolutely agree, the Soviet parachutists are undeservedly forgotten. During the war years, about thirty tactical parachute operations were carried out, and more than twenty during the Soviet-Japanese war.
There is another alternative. Universal Carrier with a group of scouts. Samples of light armored vehicles suitable for landing by airplanes TB-3-4AM-34FRN, IL-4, Li-2: light tanks T-37A / T-38 / T-41, Universal Carrier, BA-64, cars GAZ-AA, GAZ-67, "Willis". Also the bike can be parachuted.
Because everyone has a kind of "doctrinal wishlist" i want to post my "wishlist" too: RED ARMY
Conducting a lot of research about the Soviet paratroopers, I came to this commander:
- Paratroopers: 6 men, armed with SVT-40 (SVT-40 was supposed to be the main weapon for paratroopers, the entire parachute system was designed so that the paratroopers could jump with SVT),
can be armed with PPS-43. After the appearance of PPS-43, they immediately became popular with paratroopers, because they are smaller than the PPSh-41 and have a lower rate of fire, and remained on arms airborne troops up to the 1950s.
or two DP-27
Abilities: F1 grenade, explosive. Can be parachuted into the fog of war. 1st veteran ability: 5 shots from a 37mm spade mortar.
Icon based on the chest icon
- Parachute anti-tank group: M-42 with crew.
M-42 abilities: camouflage, armour-piercing discarding sabot
crew: conscripts but in paratrooper skin, ability: merging. PTRS improvement - 2 PTRS, AT grenade, AT mines, camouflage.
- T-38 with a 20-mm cannon, can be delivered to any place on the map (only an explored place). Ability: capture points, intelligence.
- IL-2 support. two IL-2s patrol an area and shoots from 23 mm cannon and rockets / drop PTAB bombs.
