And what is the problem with that?
CoH story was always cliche and stereotypes-every single story mission, including ToW.
All USF campaigns is saving private rayan all over again or fury.
But its supposed to be like that.
If you want super accurate historical WW2 game, you'd have marching columns, trains going back and there and watching supplies diminish 80% of the time.
Problems start only if people who do not even buy games get collective butthurt based on manipulated content preview.
Tobis said absolutely correct: It's company of heroes, not company of war criminals. They didn't show anything like that in the first game even with a German campaign. CoH2 is full of massacring civilians and other junk for no reason.
The United States and Britain made a bunch of war crimes: the bombing of civilians, marauds, rape, cruel treatment of civilians, theft of works of art and scientists, but it was not shown in the game they are white and fluffy, only evil Ruski burn their citizens and shoot soldiers in the backs from a machine gun.
Well, if you make a game about WW2 then you will always have the same factions. But same factions does not mean same units or same faction design. An Axis faction centered around Northfrica could definitely bring some fresh wind. They should excel in mobility and aggressive play but should not have a tank advantage.
About the soviet story in COH2:
I think russian people have every right to complain about the us-centered concept of history about ww2 in which "Overlord" decided the war which is simply wrong. The soviets defeated the wehrmacht decisively at moskau 1941 and faced the bulk of german forces during the war and the civil population suffered incredible at the hands of wehrmacht, SS and SD.
That being said its also true that the russian government and the russian public are simply not ready to put own war myths in question or challenge the own war efforts. I mean Russia officially denied - for example- the Hitler-Stalin pact until the mid 90ties and the killing of thousands of polish officers until the mid2000s.
The ridiculous use of soldiers who were driven to death is no stereotype, it was part of the soviet way of warfare. You only need to study wehrmacht documents, you can find thousands of examples where officers shook their head because of idiotic attacks that costed hundred thousands of live that could have been saved. (Same for german warfare in the last year of the war when germany suffered more causalities than in all years before combined.)
I study history, especially the part that is connected with ridiculous myths. For example, my most hated stereotype about one rifle for two people, I didn’t have a single document confirming this case. Background evidence that the USSR had no problems with rifles is Leend-Lease:
in the USSR was delivered:
- 7 M1 Carabiner for test
- 1 M1 Garand for the test
- about 8000 Pattern 1914 Enfield
M1 Carabiner is recognized as practically equivalent to PPSh-41, which was made in huge quantities, M1 Garand is recognized even more demanding to clean than SVT-40. If the USSR had real problems with rifles, the USSR would immediately request any rifles.
I am Russian and I would like Relic to do work on her mistakes and make a normal story about the Eastern Front and not a collection of stories in the style of "The Enemy at the Gates". I will not buy for the third time the same factions that were already in the first part of the game.
Relic made a bad single company about the Eastern Front - stereotypical and boring. Okay, I hoped that they would fix the situation, I supported them: I bought skins, commanders and theater of war. When the Americans and OKW came - im okay. I will support Relic, but I support you because you promised to devote the game to the Eastern Front and continue to wait for the DLCs about the Soviet Union. But they made Britain and left the game.
So, if CoH3 comes as planned in Italy and Africa - I will not buy it, just like many of my friends from the Russian-speaking community. Because they deceived - they didn’t do the second part about the Eastern Front and they didn’t fix the situation. So they will lose even more fans.
When playing 4vs4 matchs. It is almost end of the game when the is2 is ready for deployment and also more heavy tanks. coustom 4vs4 matchs without time setup are very rarely occurs.
Most multiplayer are with time. So heavy tanks are pointless.
Before some years coustom 4vs4 used to be popular so heavy tanks were useful
I agree, the IS-2 is especially useless / economically unprofitable. I don’t see it at all in team games, I see the King Tiger, I see the Tiger, I see Pershing but not IS-2.
I also think that in COH3 the Mediterranean will be the theatre of war - which i like. You can design 2 german factions- Heeresgruppe Afrika and Heeresgruppe Süd(Italian Front) and you also can use some Italian stuff. Americans and Brits (a lot of Commonwealth units)factions are obviously for Allies. Soviets could come later.
Looking to the very far future i would hope for COH4: Cold War. The scenario is really attractive and fresh!
I see it from another point of view - it's terrible. Okay, CoH3 comes as expected in Africa and Italy and which factions will be throughout the series of games:
Germans - 5 or 6 factions (if you take your reasoning)
USA - 3 fractions
Britain - 3 factions
Soviet Union - 1 faction
Italy - 1?
We are forced to play the same factions for the third time. This is just ridiculous.
Hey guys. For the new coh3 I hope to see a ww2 game again. If not, then I have another favorite theater: the beginning of the cold War based around the 60s or 80as.
Play as Nato or as warshaw pact.
Relic could use some old skins, like stg44 as ak47, mg42 as mg3 or t34/85 or Pershing.
And you could add some cool commanders. German Bundeswehr, french, Britain or US army for Nato.
And on the other hand polish, Czech, socialist east German or Russian army.
Every commander with own strategic style or call ins.
How do you like this idea?
CoH3 will be Africa and Italy, although I think Italy should have come to CoH2 with the British as the opposite faction. I already suggested ideas for alternative stories:
- Operation unthinkable, the Allies + remnants of the Wehrmacht against the USSR and the countries fighting on the side of the USSR in the Second World War (First Polish Army, Czechoslovak Army Corps, Bulgaria, Romanian divisions) who have a mixture of Soviet weapons and German.
- The Caribbean Crisis, during the 1950s and the 1960s, a huge amount of interesting guns and early helicopters were made, but it is still close to World War II without Main Tanks, guided missiles, etc.
i think the british could use to have infantry focused doctrine. I mean there is some already dedicated to commandos, armor and arty even, but not a single one that would focus giving normal infantry sections something. this is my idea.
0cp, sections can now build and repair emplacements same as emplacement doc. I know lot of people dont use them, but it fits the doctrine in stylewise.
2cp. field officer. same styled as airlanding officer, but is armed with either normal stens or m1 carabines (no particular reason) he would have that combat boost along side offmap mortar he and smoke barrage, it could give some flexibility and ability to support nearby infantry. He could also have somekind of "mad minute" ability that would boost nearby infantry rate of fire for munition cost
0-1 cp: Infantry section support package: Allows rifle section to be upgraded with (upgrade possibilities) bars, marksman kit, which would allow them to do more damage to enemies in cover and fire flares or rifle grenade package that allows one of the member to fire rifle grenades when engaged (like fighting position rear echelons) and fire smoke grenades.
0cp: m4a4 sherman: brittish lend lease sherman available from third bulding. It would be sidegrade for british as bit more durable than cromwell and some diffirent abilities.
lastly precision barrage from advanced emplacement regiment because i think its decent offmap strike to be.
British soldiers can also get an M1 Garand upgrade, Britain received 38,001 M1 Garand. It would be nice to combine the M1 with MRC body armor.
But in most cases, the armor was worn under the form so that you can use a standard skin.
That's not the point. THe oint is, everything that most poeople know about WW2 is Tom Hanks, Tigers and Pershings. and said people will get mad if they don't see that stuff in a game, even though they voted for it
But there is another side: I'm bored that all the games about World War II are focused on the same events:
- Normandy
- Africa
- Pearl Harbor
- On the Eastern Front usually only: the battle for Moscow, Stalingrad and Berlin
I want to see other events on the example of the Eastern Front:
- Battle of Voronezh. Stalingrad and Voronezh were the only cities of the front line that passed through the city for more than a year.
- The battle for the Caucasus, there is a very interesting moment the battle for the hotel "Shelter of the Elevent" with the participation of mountain troops on both sides
- Siege of Leningrad and the war to Korelia
- Defense of Sevastopol
- Dnieper parachute operation
- Soviet operations in Norway
- The Balaton operation - the last offensive operation of Germany, the bloody confrontation of the King Tiger against the SU-100 and the war in Hungary.
- The War of Manchuria
The Eastern Front has just a huge scope for implementation, but we always see Moscow, Stalingrad, Berlin.
there are already unusued soviet tanks in the game files right now, my guess is they will be released upon the new commanders after December.
SU122 is amongst them.
the support for coh didn't just "revive" all of a sudden, rest assured that COH3 is around the corner, these are just the first step to revive interest from players.
More than anything getting a $25000 prize pool for such a small competitive crowd is a proof.
