Probably because of the one model who needs to throw the Molotov not being in Range, and maybe the other models take the coverspots and this model has to run upfront then?

Don't have a video, I think its auto-cover thing. You are barely in range, as you click to throw, Model moves to cover (wall, fence) out of range, than stupid pathing takes over.
Since most of us try throwing Molotov as soon as in range

Ok, I tried to explain how I deal with lone MG42 in building. You want what would happen if I played vs strat like that.
First of all, when you enter building with mg42. I would switch my attention to other side of the map and in-behind (trying to find your Pio squad and waiting for Molotov upgrade + ammo)
I would probably find your Pios, force retreat and cut of your fuel point. In the meantime my other con squads are more than likely to come across your second MG42 midway to the building, because I would try to cap from the front. At that point, either I would chase your down with cons, or you would somehow manage to get to building.
I would get M3 flamer quickly and a sniper. You cannot possibly protect both Mg42's, you lost map control. I would flame one of your MG42's or both, or get one with Con's.
before you can scratch your head, you gonna have t70 to deal with, combined with bunch of Cons and sniper or two.
Game over.......... (what you talk of, can work in team games or against lower skilled players. Not vs any decent 1v1 Soviet player. (occasionally sure, someone can pull it off) |

using ivan is a bad example. very few players can match the top 10 players in elo and its extremely unlikely that many will be in the queue at any given time. the player base isnt that low, but the number of players queued at the same time is quite low. look at a game like war thunder. even with 25,000+ players online, youll see something like 100 players in queue. so even if theres thousands of players on coh2, most people are playing single player, comp stomping, or in game, not in the queue.
you might be willing to wait 15 minutes for a game, but i think most people would disagree. i know the majority of my games are against players much lower ranked than me, but id rather be playing than staring at the queue. in a team game tonight, i got matched with a player 100,000 ranks lower than me. even so, its better than playing a computer or not playing at all.
I guess, we all have different opinions. Personally, i would rather not play with someone 100,000 ranks bellow me than play. (which isn't possible as 4v4 Soviet, since I am stuck in, what appears, inescapable 90,000-100,000 rank loop).
But I don't have option, for obvious reasons.
As far as Ivan is concerned, fair enough. Most people ranked above and around him have quit playing.
Still doesn't make ELO very good skill indicator or matchmaker. Until it incorporates more data from the game (which is never) Especially for team games.

but what really happens is
your conscript squad waltz up
flanking with another squad
it gets suppressed
manages to crawl to the building
throws a molotov
the other squad throws theirs
one retreats, because its got 2 models left due to MG close proximity fire
German player leaves the building
retreats their MG
makes the existing squad run off with a vet 2 PG squad that's been fed vet slowly throughout the entire match with useless conscript meat sacks who carry molotovs
what looks good on paper rarely works in COH2, delay lag, RNG, conscripts being useless and getting stuck in terrain during OORAH, random MG42 instant supress
its just a mess
I actually, only show one squad for first burst, and exit Mg42's range . Oorah my way with second to mg42 and chuck in molotov. (Mg42 is facing other way, and it takes a while to reposition, so no mg42 fire on second squad).
If i cannot hide anywhere I retreat second squad, If i can i hide behind building. Rarely losing more than 1-2 cons.
By that time my 3rd Con squad will arrive and that MG42 is toast, if not supported by Grens.

i think the issue (if you can call it that) that the rest of this thread is about is not the leaderboard, but matchmaking.
If the ELO isn't doing good enough job, than matchmaking will automatically be affected. I had to many games to just keep accepting "low player base'
You cannot tell me that in 15 minutes of waiting, best thing matchmaking can find me is someone ranked 50,000 places bellow me. Ok if its rarely, but it happens quite often. to me, to Ivan and to other players.

i had a hard time understanding your story. someone with 0 wins and 3 losses was rank 12? that doesnt make sense. maybe im reading that wrong?
Rank 12, is overall rank (you know the one from 1-100), meaning he didn't play many games
His COH2 leaderboard rank, after the game, was 5-6,000. I went down 3000+ places in that game, I assume he did as well. Logically I would conclude that before that game, He was ranked around 2-3000 in 2v2 mode.

You are not reading it wrong, it just doesn't make any sense at all. One way or the other, there is something wrong there. ELO? COH2 leaderboard bug? Replay tool bug? IDK, it makes no sense.
P.S. I know very well how ELO is meant to work in theory, it just doesn't seem to be doing good job...
I come across many player who are good player but low ranked, and many players who are borderline clueless with decent/high ranks.....
Practice doesn't support theory.

I know what you are talking about, me thinks. Occasionally, when you want to throw molotov (in range and good to throw) The model that is supposed to throw it, is actually lagging behind and is behind wall/fence. At this point the entire squad decides to go back and climb over fence/wall, taking 30 sec...
Its annoying, yes..
Also i get a lot of instances of clicking to throw molotove 3 times before it actually registers as command. (due to lag, I presume) |
