Hey guys, I just wanted to preface this post by stating that I'm a long time CoH player, and I love watching and playing all factions. I feel like every faction has something interesting going for it and I love switching things up and playing something different every night. That being said:
There have been various times in CoH2's history that I've felt moments of rage either playing or watching casts. I'm one of those people that loves trying different strats and tries my hardest not to blame the game for things that are overcomeable via strategic approaches.
Here are the most notable examples:
Right after release the t-70 was a complete rape machine, wiping squad after squad on retreat. Really frustrating to watch as even if you retreated as soon as you saw the thing, you were still assured to lose your squad. I remember watching casts and every time a t-70 died, I cheered as the thing was so cheesy.
MG nonsense: there was a period where mg-42s were a force unto themselves and where suppression was off the charts with bulletins. Flanking these monsters didn't pay off much either. Relic fixed this but that memory haunts me.
T-34/76 after release was one of the most infuriating units ever for both sides. The thing couldn't kill anything and was only ever made to ram tanks. Lame for the guy building it, lame for the guy getting rammed.
Snipers in M3s and clown cars: There was a period where this was just out of control.
Fast forward a bit as I don't want this to get too long and we come to the recent meta of frustrating Is-152s squad wiping everything vs frustrating Jagdtiger murdering all vehicles... not fun for either side and people bitching about both. Kind of fixed but still a memorable period.
The reason I bring up all of this, is that I just watched a live game within the client of Bananainpajamas vs. dbmb. Banana was playing the US and dbmb was playing as OKW. I have rarely felt such frustration as I did watching this game. Early game, dbmb lost a ton of stuff because he got flanked, didn't retreat soon enough, and generally got out played. I remember thinking to myself at one point, "Wow, this is a boring game, it's completely over." And yet, nope.
Dbmb went for a flak halftrack which Banana responded to by getting zooks as he had already teched LT. He bought I think 8 zooks total, and yet was completely unable to kill the halftrack or really, anything else with them. Most of them ended up in OKW hands or lost despite banana's top notch micro. That was all of his early munitions... for nothing. And yet, I think I watched 4 seperate occasions where shreks sniped 1 or more models, with there being a full squad wipe at some point. It was seriously painful to watch shot after shot miss (or later bounce) from the zooks.
Banana went for Armor Company to get 2 bulldozers and an m-10 and while one of the bulldozers managed to full wipe a volks squad at one point, the number of misses from the bulldozers, and bounces from the m-10 was down right embarrassing.
I know that this is largely a "rage" post as I feel quite frustrated right now despite it not being my game that I just experienced, but I just wanted to say that I feel like the American faction is horridly frustrating at the moment. Annoying in the early game for OST and painful as the Amis later on against both OST and OKW. Dbmb didn't play poorly at all, but the number of mistakes he made in that game should have hurt him way more than it did. Watching all of the American tech and call ins fail miserably just reminded me of all the other times in CoH2 history that I've felt frustration towards the game and I wanted to express it.
How do you guys feel about the American faction as a whole right now? I have good matches and bad, but ultimately, whenever I watch top level replays or casts, I feel like the faction is currently very flawed. |
I think the luchs is fine. Bazookas, the Stewart and rifleman at rifle nades really need some love though. Especially the Stewart. Seriously, what is the point of that thing. Trying to use the stun shot in tandem with at guns or captain isn't even worth it as the 70 fuel delays your Jackson or Sherman so much and the Stewart itself dies so quickly to everything before it can do any real damage.
I'm just gonna say it... The Stewart is worse than the su-76. |
I don't think the game needs any more squad wiping murder machines so if any thing gets done to the KV-8, I'd rather see it get a bit better frontal armor so that it can actually tank some damage. |
I think the idea of tying call ins to tech is akward. If you want to not tech and save all your fuel for call ins then that should be an option but I think there needs to be a larger window for medium tanks to punish your opponent for that choice. The most boring but probably simplest option is to just increase the CP requirement on the call ins. If you try and stall for 15 or maybe 20 cps and your opponent invests in tech, you're probably going to have a rough time.
Right now, medium tanks and tech aren't that attractive because the fuel costs are similar and you really don't have to wait that much longer to get the call ins. Tying the call ins to tech and increasing the cp requirements both attempt to make medium core tanks more appealing but I feel like forcing the tech requirement is unnessessarily complicated when all that needs to be done is widen the cp window. |
while I would like to see the KV-8 get a small health and/or armor buff I think this is more of a testament to OKW (volks and Obers) being imbalanced than it is to the KV-8 performance. It can single-handedly destroy set up okw trucks.
Yeah, I'd have to agree. I won that game by a lot despite being down early mostly due to my pair of obers having about 70 kills in a 20 min game. My opponent couldn't properly support his kv-8 with infantry because his cons and shocks were just being completely shredded. I'm not sure how anyone can think obers are really balanced atm. |
Or increase the close range damage, 1200 rounds per minute at 6 guys one meter away should be a slaughter, but in this game the damage doesn't seem to change at all.
It does. A lot actually.
I think I agree with those that were saying the defensive bonus for being suppressed is either too good or lasts too long. I don't want to go back to the unkillable insta pin nonsense days but the game has changed a lot since then and it does feel like hmgs could use a little love in the form of suppression, damage or even a removal of the recieved accuracy penalty.
Not all at once of course as infantry combat is fairly dynamic right now and I'd rather not see mg stalemates every game, but maybe just a little tweak. |
I faced a kv-8 in a game last night as okw. It chased off one of my mgs, got fausted by falls and then died to 2 volks with shreks while only killing three total volks models. I felt kind of bad for it. |
Just to be clear, I didn't mean I think the molotov itself needs a buff, I'd just like to see a very minor reduction in its throw time animation. |
You think the IL2 is useless and the other skillplanes balanced and useful. Therefore to balance it we should go back to it's previous state.
AA is not instakill in this game, since it relies heavily on RNG.
Both P-47 and Ju-87 first salvo can't be dodge. P47 can miss but you can't escape from it's tracking. Single AT strafe targets ground, but if it's call on the edges of the map, it's REALLY hard to dodge.
If the target moves when the flares are dropped, many of the rockets usually miss. If the target moves when flares are dropped, the ju-87 still destroys it regardless. Being in motion effects the P-47's effectiveness where it does not with the Ju. The IL doesn't do much to vehicles but is a decent infantry area denial call in. |
