Why are conscripts portrayed as useless meat sacks that can not stand their own in a fight? You yourself said the online aspect of this game is set in 1944, I am free to presume during are successful operation Bagration? Then why are troops who were well lead and equip portrayed in this disrespectful mannner? Even in 1944 Soviets took higher losses than the Germans. Why shouldn´t that be portrayed by stronger German troops?
When I get a tank for 300 fuel it better be able to take on a panther, RELIABLY.
Panther is the Germans anti-armour unit. It shouldn´t be beaten by IS-2 which is anti infantry. Realistically both could take each other out, but the Panther could fire 4 times faster than the IS-2. |
Thx for the answers. One thing I forgot. Panzer IV and Panther are almost identical in their guns´ performances. As both do 160 damage and only differ in penetration. Panzer IV will almost always penetrate Su85s or T-34s anyway so there´s no real damage output increase. Not sure about the reload times though. |
Hello,
this topic isn´t supposed to be a rant about balance etc. It´s simply an observation that I made in CoH2 - for myself and for my opponents. This observation applies to 2v2 matches.
Germans almost never ever field Panthers. If they do, they usually have already won the game. 80% of the German players go T3 for the Panzer IV. And why shouldn´t they? The Panzer IV is cheaper and almost as good as the Panther. Teching up to T4 delaying your armor doesn´t seem to be a viable option. By the time a Panther comes out you could have fielded 2 Panzer IVs.
So what exactly does the Panther have over the Panzer IV?
Better frontal armour, better HP, better gun, slightly more speed.
BUT that comes for a tradeoff: Worse anti infantry capabilities, 50 fuel and 120MP higher costs, teching costs, longer time to vet up.
Further this gap between Panzer IV and Panther is further narrowed by several things:
- The Panzer IV vets up rather quickly and a vet2 Panzer IV seems to be a much bigger threat than a Panther.
- Blitzkrieg pretty much negates the speed advantage the Panther has over the Panzer IV (at least both are fast enough).
- Both can get owned by Su-85s anyway. Both defeat heavy tanks without that much trouble.
My conclusion:
My conclusion is that the Panther is outshined by the Panzer IV. I don´t see a reason to build it. I´m not crying for a nerf or buff to any unit, but I think the Panther really doesn´t offer that much better anti tank capabilities as the "generalist" Panzer IV.
Your thoughts? |
IS-2 get's beaten by:2 Panzers or by 2 Stugs(had this game when IS turret rotated slower than the Stug)...Panthers(which costs half!,HALF!!) and Tigers take them out individually, which makes it useless...
Yeah, I think heavier tanks (IS-2, Panther) should be almost impenetrable from the front to regular caliber guns (75mm, 85mm). I don´t see any sense in building the Panther also as 2 Panzer IVs (while being only marginally more expensive together - especially without the teching cost) will outperform a Panther any day, even versus heavy tanks. No need at all to build a Panther.
Right now I can drive circles around the IS-2 with my P4s not fearing it at all. Vet2 P4s can even slug it out with the IS-2 frontally.

Why would it win versus a Panther anyways? The Panther is a dedicated anti tank vehicle. The IS-2 is a breakthrough tank that tears through infantry if used well.
The IS-2 in Coh2 has insane rate of fire compared to the real vehicle, which could shoot 2-3 times a minute. Make use of that and get those HE rounds to the enemies´ infantry.
As for being a viable option: I think the role of the IS-2 is already filled by the KV-8 though and this vehicle is even better and in the same doctrine. So the way too expensive IS-2 doesn´t seem like the best option. The price definately needs to go down. Maybe even its AT capabilities could be buffed a little bit. But no way in hell that thing should win 1v1 versus Panthers. Those already lose to Su-85s 1v1. Why would anybody build Panthers if they also lost versus IS-2s? |
For 360 mp per squad and 45 mp for each member they should pack a punch. Losing PG´s is costly. I personally prefer normal Grenadiers as you get 3 Grenadiers for 2 PG´s and you can use them to better effect on range and with the 42 upgrade.
So I think if Panzergrenadiers were nerfed, I would hardly ever use them. |
Why would I use the suppression bulletin if it didn´t allow me to pin hostile troops faster? Without bulletin the MG42 suppresses with two bursts and pins with three bursts. With the bulletin it does that in one and two bursts respectively.
So if the bulletin was made weaker it would still suppress/pin like the regular unbuffed MG42 (2-3 bursts). So why in gods name would anybody use such a useless bulletin?
If the MG42 itself was made weaker, everybody would be forced to take the bulletin to keep it at regular performance.
I agree that the MG42 is to strong atm but I think there are other ways to balance it. If the 42 gets nerfed to hard again then the fewer Germans get overrun by conscripts.
Edit: Considering the +4% damage increase on Grenadiers: It pays off if you intend to spam the Grenadiers´ MG42. This enables them to kill clown cars faster and also dish out significantly more damage. On regular Grenadiers it´s only good to negate the buffs of your opponent to infantry. However in 200 games I killed ONE heavy tank with Panzerfaust, you need FIVE to unlock the bulletin. I don´t know how so many players have unlocked it. Nobody builds IS-2s and the KV-8 is out of question to be attacked by Panzerfausts. |
Really? I agree that Russians are a bit weak now, but I never had problems with the shock troops as Russian. They own infantry. As soon as they hit the field the Grenadiers are running back in terror to keep the distance. Even PGs lose in a fight against them unless they are vetted. - And by that time the Shocks are usually also vetted. Recently I have been trying to use G43s to combat shock troops, but I find them incredibly hard to take out with small arms. |
Yeah, the popcap is annoying. I´m a 2vs2 player mostly and half of the games end up with me reaching the maximum popcap. The worst thing is that I´m then stuck at 100/100 with 2 or three Gren squads with 2 men, which can´t be reinforced. The logic consequence: Sacrifice them in suicide capping missions to at least have a full Gren squad again.
It´s annoying to only be able to support your Tiger with one Panzer IV and then you are done as the rest of the space is taken by your infantry force. The old popcap-system was better.
Also I think the capping of the map is not as rewarding as in CoH1. You can only influence fuel and munitions income. In the first Coh you could influence manpower income and popcap also. I know they wanted to make a comeback easier, but it´s just to much sometimes. |
- I consider the ammunition refund for rifle grenades rather a bug fix than a feature. It was annoying as hell to lose your badly needed ammunition as Germans for nothing.
- Soviets now have less of a chance to abuse their annoying pre-patch tactics. A T-70 rush obliterating anything is less worthwhile and those annoying sniper-spammers have also a hard time. - Thanks to the 222 buff.
- I agree however that Russians are on the back-foot now and could need some kind of buff. However I don´t know where and what.
The patch however made the game a lot more fun - especially because those lame abusive tactics don´t work any longer (Sniper spam, T-70 rush, Su-85 spam).
Has the Tiger been buffed also? I didn´t read anything in the patch notes about it. Yesterday it bounced more than half the Su-85 shells from its front. Or has the Su-85s penetration also been nerfed? |
