Right now coh2 is a team game.
I'm also fed up with 1vs1's and pretty much abandoning that aspect of the game. You can toss munitions left and right and left and right with really no thought whatsoever on what you're doing (I feel this is even possible playing as the germans). This is making positioning and flanking really pointless. Why take the green cover when you know you'll get 2 rifle nades thrown at you every time you try to close in? Why stall with a conscript in MG fire to flank when you know that it will probably get frontally naded with a long range deadly rifle nade and you could very well lose that squad easily?
Why put your grens behind some green cover where the approach is a negative cover road? The rifle damage is still so low that all their units can simply charge you, taking minimum damage and throw off molotovs? This game is the pits, and so far is catering to casual gameplay, which is why team games are becoming way more popular.
However, I just wanted to say all RTS are clickfests, it's just the genre. I mean higher level vcoh play didn't require super high APM but a good number of the top players had pretty solid micro. |
I love penal squads, but in a 1vs1 they don't fill a roll or come out in a reasonable amount of time. Mass conscripts is a lot more effetive. I've really tried incorporating them into some sort of strat with tier 1 but due to their survivability and current abilities (and considering the current german meta usually involves quick light vehicles) they just become a manpower drain. They have potential but it definitely hasn't been reached. |
I was watching an old TFN video of barton vs DevM and a sherman hit the field probably at the 15 minute mark. They commented on it as "quick tank depo" and in comparison to coh2 that would be considered a very slow tank. You can get a t34 in ~8 minutes I believe and team games can have crazy fast tanks, like 8 minute panthers. I miss the infantry battle length leading up to light vehicle play into tanks. Also, I know some maps were different like sturzdorf where you could get a fast tank in 1vs1 but it was situational to just that map. it's pretty common in almost all coh2 maps I feel. |
I was wondering if anyone was happy with the current pace of teching. I thought that over time I would learn to like the faster teching over vcoh but it's begun to make those infantry fights that I really enjoyed back in the day over far too quick. Also, I miss the feeling of seeing tanks and it being a real oh shit moment, or maybe not so "oh shit" if I had properly prepared. Does anyone feel the same way? |
L2 abuse FHQ's, T70's, 120mm mortars, cons spam, AT Nade RNG oh wait what RNG it crits eng every time. Then just spam SU85 for insta win, as well as cheap 30 muni mines.
You just reminded me how stale I feel the 1vs1 meta is :/ |
IMO damaged engine blitzkreig tanks really need to not be able to gain the speed buff. It really doesn't make much sense and is kind of an easy mode cop-out for the german player at times (this combined with smoke can be really frustrating). |
Well, all I have to say is the elephant is a very specific unit and is only good at destroying tanks... and I mean just tanks. It's really designed to only be good vs tanks and that's about it, if you're facing a bunch of tanks, that should be the reason you choose that doctrine, right? If you have a problem with it being too slow then you may want to consider not using it. It's a slow and steady pak43 gun, it's job is to basically lock down an area and might I remind you it's already the best AT weapon in the game.
It's not a main battle tank, but a sniper. Also, consider this: a sniper alone in a battlefield isn't that effective, it's a support unit right? You cannot have a build of 100% snipers in this game (don't mention SSSSS please lol). Your snipers need grens and machine guns to stop other infantry. So what i'm trying to say is that you may need to followup on the damage you deal with other units. If you hit a t34 for example then send in a shrek squad to finish it off. Good players aren't going to just sit there and let you do damage to their units. Maybe try to bait tanks into the elephant? Lay some tellers at roads and lay ambushes with shreked pgrens. There's tons of options to help make your elephant scary and a lot more effective. |
Nice work on the soviet ones, awesome stuff! |
I just realised from reading this thread, that the biggest difference between players preferring the german side in vCoH to COH2, is that they have become lazy.
In vCoH as german you couldn't plop an MG and just consider its cone an area sealed to any enemy infantry.
For some absurd reason this is now the expectation from several players, and we see threads like this return time after time.
I'd like to remind everyone how we had similar threads even before the MG was nerfed. For that reason I have to conclude that the real problem does not seem to have anything to do with balance, but with the mindset of some players.
This x1000. It's a support weapon, support it and it will treat you right. As it stands now with the hotfix it suppresses pretty damn well, give it some extra line of sight with a supporting gren so it can take advantage of its full firing distance and you wont be getting flanked as easily. Also, try pointing it directly at a flank instead of relying on its arc to hit flanking units while trying to cover multiple approaches. Suppress one unit, pack up MG, redploy where there are flanking enemies, use Grens to get rid of the suppressed squad. I think a lot of newer players don't understand the Mg was pretty broken (if you want to compare it to Vcoh mechanics) for the first 2 months, so you guys have been a little spoiled in terms of easy mode gameplay. |
Penals are pretty awesome, I use them all the time for fun specifically but in a competitive 1vs1 a good german player will shut down a penal build really fast. They're viable only vs opponents who don't realize you're stalling them to bulid tier 1 then pump out a penal troop or two. About 90% of the time you'll get out teched and ran off the map, would be cool to see these units change to be affordable in build orders (I know this sounds intense and COULD be a bad idea but maybe making them available in Tier 0?)
Also: snipers are still good, scout cars are still good vs heavy mg play. These things all got nerfed a bit because they were found to be easy mode pretty quick, time to polish your micro |
