Not that I want to go all history nerd but the russians produced an assload of PPSH's, I always thought it weird that the COH2 game army didn't attempt to fit the characteristics of the russian army in some ways.
"By spring 1942, the PPSh factories were producing roughly 3,000 units a day."

I much rather see the conscripts playing a close range in your face role, and then see them balanced around that. They can lack in long range and be awesome in close range if need be but it would help define them and maybe give the germans a big reason to field machine guns (which then also fits their characteristics! oh man!) |
All they probably need to do is categorize certain abilities. For example: ISU = heavy, IS2 = heavy, Tiger = heavy.
Then, cap 1 category per commander. So you can have something like: 1 offmap ability, 1 infantry call-in, 1 heavy etc etc.
This is a simply a rough draft idea, but to be fair the current commanders are already just mix and match similar abilities so this is actually giving some people more choices. Maybe I don't like shocks and I like guards, so I get guards, and as long as they let you see what your opponent can field before a battle you can have an idea of what to expect.
I think it could be cool and would definitely bring some really interesting variation. |
Since coh2 doesn't have anything it does better than coh1...
You'll fit in round here, Austin. Good to see you again.
Haha you're not allowed to take my quote of of context.
I just meant personally the game never lost its shine, sometimes I wonder if I have a mental problem. I did sink maybe 500 hours into coh2 though so to say I didn't give it a fair shot is not true |
They don't have much to lose. The last time I played coh2 (maybe 6-7 months ago) the game balance was not really "on" since you had to use a few distinct commanders to compete. What's the worst that can happen?
That being said... I welcome the change if it's implemented in an intelligent way.
Since coh2 doesn't have anything it does better than coh1 (my opinion... RELAX) it would give me a reason (as a fan of the franchise) to switch between the two games. I primarily still play the first game and have no reason to play the second. The commander customization would make the game stand out and offer a feature that doesn't exist in COH1 and would likely lure me into coming back for some casual coh2 gaming.
Yea, I said it, this game is not going to be competitive, or so it seems, but it could still be fun which is totally possible with the way they are panning out their decisions. It's not this nightmare scenario this community makes it out to be.
Whenever there are big changes there's always someone freaking out. Just let them do what they want and lets see how it goes. At the end of the day you have no control regardless and I guarantee relic gets tired of these hyper negative remarks about everything they do. Let the game developers develop a game, chill out, and try to have some fun... that is in essence what gaming is about. |
Take it easy Peter.
Hopefully your new job / community is a bit more rewarding. I had fun participating in the beta and attempting to help make the game balance better, through better and worse. |
You want to compare CoH2 to vCoH and you're saying I'm the one that needs to think outside the box? Bringing vCoH into a CoH2 argument is about as in-the-box as you can be. Charging in blindly isn't how you should play, and if it's working, something is wrong between either Volksgrenadiers or Riflemen.
Burts sums it up quite well. Some people kept saying PG's should never get buffed because they're not supposed to charge in guns blazing. Now some of those same people are saying it's perfectly okay for Riflemen to charge in because they're more expensive than Volks, even though the cost and tech disparity of Conscripts vs Panzergrenadiers is much larger than Riflemen vs Volks. Speaking of, you completely dodged the question.
Here since your eyes glazed over I reposted the second half of my post which was the point I "didn't address"
2. I don't leave my volks unsupported and expect to beat a more powerful and expensive core infantry unit; that's a tad more brainless don't you think? This situation is incredible unique to the moment, were your volks completely stationary behind the best cover? Were they left unsupported? Did the rifles have upgrades? Were you charging at rifles and tried to close a distance on a more effective close range unit? Etc etc. They're not SUPPOSED to beat rifles, but with proper positioning and the right situation, they can. That's the whole point of them, cheap meat shield infantry until you tech to get something with some punch. US has a good early game.
Also, if anything is ACTUALLY broken or imbalanced vs the match-up, it's probably volley fire. |
1. CoH2 is not vCoH.
2. If Riflemen (Infantry unit) can charge in brainlessly and win, why not any of the Assault units I listed?
You missed the point, think outside the box for just a moment of your life. If you can have diverse armies in one game of the same franchise it can be applicable to the second installment. You can have armies that excel in early game, close range units vs longer range units that depend more heavily on cover and still have a good dynamic balanced game. It's a l2p issue for you it sounds.

+1 million sir! all these god damn morons spouting garbage "rifles are not OP" LOLZ living in dreamland! Relic have to nerf em or game will be dead within weeks, totally broken atm, FACT!
Actually this was a common vcoh mechanic. Also, that game had a steady popular playerbase until the steam merge so if people learned to deal with it there they can learn the meta and learn to deal with it in the second installment of basically the same game. |
The winstreaks can just as easily be demonstrating that US is easier to play, rather than OP. Something to consider.
Basically this. I find okw more fun because it's high risk high reward. Play well with your few units and you'll dominate; make less mistakes and it pays off largely. That's more fun to me. Not to mention most people are forgetting okw can lay regular mines aka vcoh style which is a huge advantage IMO. They play closer to panzer elite having specialist units so until people learn the meta they're just blowing smoke out their ass. |
I love volks, they scale well, and are generally best used as distractions for your hard hitting weaker units to get in close (or take less damage). Also the fact that they get shreks later on makes them great for infantry centric armies as long as you can keep them alive.
Also.... volks cost 240 and rifles 280 which has been mentioned multiple times. |
