Prokhorovka
Hey guys,
I've been working on this map and was wondering if I could get some feedback, it's likely going to change quite a bit due to me realizing how the offmap call-ins work and likely some additional strategic points. If anyone would like to 1vs1 me on it please PM me. If possible some constructive criticism would be appreciated
I still haven't finished detailing the map, I'm not certain that I want to go too much further since I feel like I'm going to be changing a lot of things around shortly.
Thanks! |
Thanks man good stuff |
I loved vcoh, loved the meta, loved the game. However, I think turning the game to vcoh mechanics is exactly what the devs are trying to avoid. I think the game could eventually be pretty interesting without having global upgrades ( I miss the BARS).
Most of the issues stem from the timings that the soviet "elite infantry" aka "hard hitters" come out. I think the game is designed to eventually phase out the conscripts as much as you can and go for guards / shocks / penals. the problem with this is its a game about unit preservation, and there is an upkeep cost for keeping these conscripts around. Eventually, as the game goes on, they become huge manpower sinks. They deal almost no damage and just usually become your capping force. Also it seems odd to me that a unit that is supposed to be cannon fodder costs similarly to the opposing enemies main frontline unit. Yea, there are 2 more models per squad, but they aren't "meant to scale lategame" or so I've read. A smart german player will just spam grens and lmgs and move to your cutoff and sit there, and as long as he isn't braindead he will dodge your molotovs, and just shoot the shit out of all your conscripts. I guess my problem right now is the meta really needs some tweaks because I feel like playing germans there is no reason to not go gren, gren, gren, gren, gren lmg's > fHT or panzer IV. Gah, the meta is frustrating me just thinking about it haha there's so much I left out too like trying to second guess the german tech that will soon be assaulting you. |
The unfortunate reality is if one unit performs the best out of a base line of units that all cost 240, they will all spam that unit. I'm honestly surprised the prices of units still have not been touched or played around with to start promoting synergy between units in the factions. |
Is this the first video game you've played or something? The devs released the game, they're listening to the community, and they're balancing the game. You people have really gotten to a point where you will complain about anything, even good things. |
The only thing Soviets lacks in my opinion is the ability to field a reliable AT tank out of their standard buildings.
Stopped reading there, the answer is what is an AT gun for 500 trebek |
Guards and AT-nades/AT-Guns sounds good and works in most circumstances.
A particular scenario that i have issues with is when my opponent starts with Assault grenadier spam and directly techs to flamer HTs. In this case i usually stall with conscripts at long range, in buildings or capping around where there are no Assault Grens. This however leaves you with little XP for the first CP that unlocks guards. So, more often than not the Flamer HT arrives when i only have 3/4 of a CP and no guards.
What do you do in this scenario?
That's usually when I stare at the screen blankly |
Well, here's my take on the game:
I play it a lot, despite the fact I absolutely despise the current meta, the patches come out a bit too slowly for my taste, and the game / mechanics seem a bit dumbed down from vcoh.
Why do I play a lot? Because I want to give feedback anyway I can, I see the game having a lot of potential. I could see it being better than vcoh at some point. If the game ends up not getting balanced and fine tuned in a way that would make it more fun, then I'll stop playing.
I will say that I believe every patch has been in the right direction (in my opinion of course). Things seem pretty good and although I don't find the factions balanced (because of one or two glaringly obvious abilities / cheesey strats that both sides can perform depending on timing) I can see and hope that they'll be fixed. There are a lot of things that have been promised and hopefully coming and if relic delivers, yea, I think this game will be worth playing in the long run. |
I agree with you that not all of the feedback in this thread is of the constructive sort, but I think much of the point is that the way infantrycombat works now, positioning really isnt that important. For example: if you had an infantrysquad in green cower, protecting an approach with red cower, any assaulting infantryunit would suffer a lot, and most would have a really hard time winning the battle. In COH2 that dosent really matter all that much, because of the length of combat, and the fact that cower isnt as important anymore. This makes the positioning of your tropps less important, and moving them arround, throwing and dodging grenades all that more important. Take my example above, in COH2 you would probably attack that infantryunit head on and start throwing nades, while in vCOH, embarking on such an assault would leave you verry voulnerable.
I think thats what people think about when they say clickfest in this matter. How dodging and running arround has become more important, and tacticly placing and manouevering your units less important. In addition it makes the combat look really strange, compared to the more realistic firefights of the original.
