The reason to these changes is that basic infantry of every faction was over performing, con/gren/volk/rifle spam was a viable choice for every army in game so they made all kinds of basic infantry worse than before, making heavy infantry better ie. pzgrens, penals, shocks, sturmpioniers and so on. Also they defined bthe role of the squad on the field better now than before, should make first, most important 5 minutes of a game much more interesting.

The US never lost an engagement in Vietnam and when the US forces left it was with the North having been beaten back. The South managed the ground war for several years after and lost in the mid 70's because the US congress stopped funding any sort of military material and advisors so South Vietnam soon crumbled.

As to realism... One of the reasons people love to play the German supertanks is that realism isn't modeled. You would rarely get to use a Tiger let alone a KT. Both might break down shortly after they leave the start point, and that is if they even have fuel. There would be no Ostwinds (only 40 were ever built), Pumas (200 20mm and 100 5omm were built) or that big rocket tank (forgot the name) of which only 10 were built.

You would be fighting with PIII's, Stugs, P4s and some Panthers. Your replacement troops would DECLINE in quality instead of increasing (15 year olds and old men), your artillery would be in short supply, short of ammunition, and what you had made of inferior grades of steel. Some of that ammunition would be duds as well since your industry uses your enemies as slave labor to make that ammunition and some of them would figure out how to make a dud that passed quality inspection. (Oh the irony that the only unit that in a way models duds was the COH1 m10 with its misfires.)

Your biggest advantage would be that you are on the defensive and that while retreating your enemies lines of supply keep getting longer.

They should add or change some 3v3 and 4v4 Automatch maps as well, particularly the 3v3. There are plenty of 3v3 maps that are more fun, and few are more played than Red Ball in basic match. (No no, don't add Sceldt). But to have Hedgerow Siege and Montherme are two of the cheesiest 3v3 maps out there and are seldom picked in Basic.

Replace them with Red Ball and Vimoutiers which are certainly less cheesy.

I know the "regular" "top" players don't view these seriously, but there is certainly a community that plays 3v3 and 4v4 auto and I can't think it is that hard to add a few maps as there are already only 3 3v3 choices and 2 4v4, far less than 2v2 and 1v1.

VCOH disappointed in that area as the Airborne doctrine didn't offer all that much and the Infantry/Armor doctrine had none at all.

In vCOH the Airborne had the Bomb Run but it was easy to dodge and nerfed so much that it was always the last thing you unlocked. And you rarely used unless floating, deperate, or just for sh-ts and giggles. And I would think it was crap even if it cost 150 muni to use instead of the real 250 muni cost.

Historically US long range response came in the form of air support or fast to respond, accurate, and powerful Artillery. Every regiment had it's own 105mm and access to divisional 155mm tubes. There were also quite a lot of 203 and 240mm tubes and they were pretty mobile, though not SPs. Even the airborne had their own 75mm artillery pieces.
