.....Despite that, it didn't feel THAT bad when playing the game. There are good gameplay elements and the game feels dynamic when it comes to flanking manouvres and back and forth skirmishing. I just hope they still tweak the UI here and there (especially how you read your resources is so annoying.)
Balance wise ofc I can't say anything, just yet, but there is time to fix. And it's not terrible from my first impressions.
Coming from you 12ocky, I'd say you raised my level of hope by one notch. |
Again I'm concerned about this, but unwilling to pass judgment. Sticky rifles were balanced on a knife edge in the last game.
It took many patches to get them there, though. In Beta, and even before OF, they were homing missiles that would catch up to a speeding bike.
I agree on this and suggest that tank nades have only 33% chance of engine crit. That way you feel good if you actually get one. You could make the nades slightly cheaper then, maybe 30 or 25.
I'd personally give them 40% engine damage, 10-15% chance to immobilize and increase their cost. The soviets don't use nearly as much Munis as the Axis. |
well yeah... and here we have the problem already. either the intel bulletins/unlockable commanders are "cheating", since they give an unfair advantage (no matter whether you aquired them via "legit" grinding or by loading savegames), or nothing is imho. if i play as a lvl 1 vs. someone with all unlocks already... is my opponent cheating? no, he is only using legit means against me, even if it means his chances of winning the game might be higher. i don't think using a script to unlock the same options that he has at his disposal constitutes cheating. at least not moreso than introducing/using the unlockables in the first place.
The difference between cheating and an imbalance, is the fact that cheating is explicitly working your way around the rules of the game, and imbalance was not necessarily meant to be there (but can be).
You may not like Intel Bulletins, I know I don't, but they are meant to be in the game. An imbalance or flaw is not the same as cheating, even if the outcome is the same (an unfair advantage).

If nothing is OP then why is there a problem with people unlocking everything? What reason is there to make the system one that can't be avoided?
I agree with your stance: I hate the leveling system. Its trying to imitate CoD's success. However, what's done is done and we have to bear with it.
Solution? Remove leveling from loaded skirmish games. If it was up to me, I'd remove the ranking system from skirmishes altogether. Skirmishers like casual stuff, not grinding. They want the big bombs, the big hitters, right off the bat.

Smoke, and sector harassment would be their current ideal role, IMHO.
It won't be a gamechanger, but a mortar covering an icy section will make the opponent hesitate, and having constant barrages do weaken the enemy, somewhat. As it has been said, I think their role in 2v2 is more solid.
Smoke in CoH2, however, can be great. Hell you could even pull off feints...
Edit: Grammar |
AT grenades cannot be dodged once the throw animation has started. This is different from sticky bombs, which can be dodged up to the point where the sticky bomb leaves the rifle's hand, since the animation will be cancelled if the vehicle moves out of range before that point.
That's very weird. Was it changed? I could have sworn I dodged it, and I think I would've noticed if it was a satchel or molotov(lol). What happens if the grenade is already airborne? |
Big fraud there. Let him rot, for all I care. Waste of people's times and money. |
The lack of good voice actors this time... was the first thing I noticed when I got the alpha... Sad day.
Remember you haven't seen the finished game. There may be a lot of audio and video assets still missing, for the sake of size. Its unlikely, but its possible.
I've still heard some really good lines, though, like:
"I hear those americans always complain about the strength of our pioneers!" and a couple of others |
biggest fail with AT nades/panzerfaust - they will still fire when ability is activated even when enemy vehicle is out of range
and each AT nade/panzerfaust have 100% chance to damage engine
Not sure about panzerfaust, but AT nades can be dodged, like stickies. Granted, my opponent wasn't very good, but at least they aren't homing missiles. |
I got my Beta key from the PC Gamer giveaway. I got my Alpha key through the CoH facebook page, too. No preorders.
Its still a closed beta, they are just controllnig the amount of players that flow into it, until they are confident enough to open it up.
