The ideal solution imho, cannot be implemented due to time (though you can do it through scaleform).
Instead of revealing the unit, the fog of war should get a AOE mark, as well as the minimap or tactical map. These marks would only appear on coordinates clouded by the fog of war.
Imagine the possibilities if this was implemented in a patch: you could bait the enemy.

Yes, very sharp Combatmuffin, thats exactly why I said:
Because he wasn't expecting Thor to land with Mjolnir and crash down on such a simple point. He could have played it at a friend's house for all intents and purposes, he doens't need to specify that, he's not in a court of law or anything.
TBH, the only real way to judge the game will be at release, and perhaps 2-4 months in. That will give us a good indication of how much support it will receive. |
What does the "+300 Manpower" part mean?
Could you expand on your proposal a little bit, perhaps with some examples of its effects?
It means you start earning 300 manpower for every minute of game time. Its the number to the right of your current resource.
He basically means that for every 1 population you have, you reduce that income per minute by one. So when you have 50 population, you'll only earn +250. By the time late game comes around, you should be hanging at around +200-250 a minute, which is just enough to replenish losses, but taxing if you make mistakes.
You can offset this by capturing more resource points in the map. Its a good suggestion.
OFC, it would be even better if they could add a supply yard-style upgrade on top of it.

No. You didnt know this until you bought and played it, so this cannot be the reason.
No. Maybe he played the demo or beta tested it. Then he bought it. Like I did.
Here's an extra number of people that worked on both Homeworld and CoH. A game is the result of a lot of team effort, but there are key players: Producers, creative director/designer, technical directors and lead programmer . Those four positions, to me, trump every other. There's many other important ones, but those four, to me, help ship a successful title all around.

1) I prefer this upkeep system, and appreciate its value from DoW2 experience.
...aaaaaand I'm done.
DoW2 was a competitive and imabalanced mess. I hated the entire tech progression in that game, the middle game transition and the failed attempt to hang on to CoH's successful design. It was a fun game to playa round with, but NOT a prime example of multiplayer genius.
Games are supposed to be lost. You tend to lose if you make mistakes. Games should punish the player making mistakes, and reward the player taking advantage of his opponent's mistakes. As such, a game shouldn't promote defensive play or aggressive play. It should promote both options to a player with the upper hand, the loser has to adapt.
The current upkeep system removes options from the winner, in an attempt to "giddyup" the loser. This is even MORE terrible when the loser is clearly outmatched: it just drags games longer and wastes everybody's time. |
Alright, thats it! Im putting an end to all this madness!

I think HTD is fine. People just need to work around it. A bundled grenade makes quick work of Conscripts during HTD.
If they are still too powerful for people, then remove any abilities the conscripts have while in this mode (mollies, AT, oorah, vet, etc). You gain some, you lose some. |
>>>PROPOSED SOLUTION<<<
In all seriousness, we can't yet judge it. Balance has not been polished, and we don't know if other big tanks will be in the game. For all we know, there's a jagd or a king tiger, as well.
Regardless of this, I HATE the T34's ram ability. Its the closest thing to an I-win button in CoH2. You leave the enemy tank defenseless, while crippling your mobility. Personally, I think the viability of the ram ability vs heavier tanks should be reduced.
That said, I think buffing German tanks in favor of their increased cost is a mistake. Back in vCoH's early days, german tanks were simply never used, no matter how powerful, because their cost was prohibitive.
The solution lies in improving the synergy of combined arms to win engagements. Right now, shreks are not viable because of how damn expensive they are. In vCoH, shreks were your only real infantry AT solution, but it was useful because Allied armor was fragile. In CoH2, you've got armor that's almost as heavy as the Axis. |
Cant believe the idiocy of this kid. Flame after flame.
He is not flaming, although he is using a cynical tone. The reason? You keep discussing without any substantial evidence. You are just syaing: "put a random freelancer to do it" as if Relic DIDN'T want to put it into the game. If you had been tracking development at all, Quinn stated their intention was to put it in the game, but their resources had to be prioritized elsewhere.
You say you have experience in the game industry, but it sounds like you are talking out of thin air. A spectator mode, by itself, will NOT bring money, it will simply keep the game alive longer, and ONLY if there's interesting stuff to watch. right now, Relic is focusing on developing something interesting to play, and hopefully watch.
Look, I'm sorry you're butthurt about all the awful things I've done to you in a past life or whatever, but all I'm saying...
Genius.
Theatre of War is a way to expand the DLC options they can deliver. I am not psyched about it, but Im not negative either. If it can bring extra cash for future patches and fixes, then I'm game. |
Its obvious that adding something to the game cost money, doest take a genius to figure that out. There is a difference between a spectator mode witch requires a dedicated server for an a spectator mode where u simply join the as caster in the beginning of a match. I can bet you a million something that some freelane coder that is a fan would kill for a chance to develope those functions for free, as long as he gets his name in the production crew. i my self know the value of such a spot, having had my exp with the gaming industry. This could be such an important function, and comprimising part of the game to add this might be the difference between big in e-sport and dead as coh1 is. Spectator mode might be added later on, but only if ppl show interest, and esports, tournies on witch will be the free advertisement SAGA will need.
That takes a lot of risk and effort. The truth is, its far more straightforward to create single player content and DLCs that bring back quick buck. Its a painful truth.
Also, its not only the fact that they need to implement the code for free. Im sure a bored programmer at Relic could pull it off. It is also the fact that they'd have to provide support for it in the future, fix glitches, bugs, netcode, etc.
Its not as simple as "putting it in" (no pun intended) |
