People get T-70 because penal strats are slow and you need that extra push early mid game to equalize resource disadvantage from early game, while cons just trip and fall on their faces the moment axis weapon upgrades and PGs come into play and you can't pick guard doctrines 100% of the time.
People don't get it because its strong, people get it to get back on equal field as soviets early game is on the weak or slow side, depending on your opening.
You can also go svt cons and negate mentioned setbacks.
So the current consensus is instead of making one unit more interesting we take 2, swap their roles entirely and somehow manage to have that balanced with the minimal support we have for balance patches? Does anybody else notice how the other allied light tanks are AT primarily but don't get used as AT primarily because using a 3hk tank that has to be in enemy range to shoot isn't at all feasible? No. The T70 cannot be made into the tiers AT specialist nor does it make sense to turn the su76 into an faction swapped stug E. Both units need refinement not a redesign that could completely screw the faction for the rest of the games life.
I don't believe it is a consensus. It is just 1 guy that wants another Stuart with a t70 skin.
As for the topic, imo to make su76 a little more viable, as many already pointed out, the barrage ability needs some readjustments. The CD is the first thing that comes to mind.

IMO stuka bomb strike is the biggest issue, since it destroys the thing completely and if you pair it with recon, ML20 becomes a big waste of resources.
IMO the biggest offender here is Jaeger Armor, because it has ele with (!) spotting scope on top of the recon+stuka combo. You nerf the doctrine and ML20 might have more chance. |
My point was that, that upped USF\UKF blobs are by far the strongest compare to grens\volks blobs. You can counter them by blob of yourself, while Sov\Ost\OKW cant counter western allies blobs by their blobs, thats why they have stock rocket arty.
At least its my opinion.
no offence, but you sound like you have extremely one sided experience of coh2. What exact blobs are you referring to? Stock infantry vs stock infantry? Is it allowed to have doctrinal infantry (guards, shocks, falls, JLIs etc) or doctrinal upgrades for line infantry (g42s, con SVTs, 5th veteran gren etc)? What about elite stock German infantry like pgrens or obers, or side tech infantry like penals? At which point of the game and in which game mode (1v1, 2v2 etc) blobbing occurs? Etc.
Also OST have Sturmpanzer IV or Brummbar that is extremely effective against grouping enemies, while being pretty sturdy at the same time. |
That's exactly what you pay so much for. I can absolutely get behind a 320hp mark but it's meant to be durable it is in fact it's iconic trait. The werfer has accuracy and alpha strike, the Katy has flexibility of range, the Stuka has high yield and accurate aiming, the mattress is damn near impossible to end for good since it can be recrewed and the calliope can get in and out of squiffy areas and deliver cheeky barrages. When it goes in for that shotgun barrage is when you jump it.
Current calliope is almoust light vehicle level flimsy, but what you described is medium tank durable. You get Calliope at 10 cp and this is pretty close to late game when, I'd say, when 300 hp is not a lot. Yes, current Calliope is not 1 shot thin, but still pretty low to be at least cautions about using it.
Personally I've never found this unit particularly oppressive and never enjoyed it using myself, so I'm kind of clueless why this is actually a thing, even after reading whole thread of arguments. |
Zu fus could eliminate an entire defensive line, weapons included with pinpoint accuracy while also coming drastically sooner and being cheaper than the calliope.
Frankly, imo, the calliope should be a Sherman variant or upgrade with a munitions barrage like the firefly. It puts strain on the economy for over use which is a balancing factor on its own but also justifies its durability slightly more.
I don't remember the exact cost since it was changed a bit ago, but you are basicly paying more for a worse katyusha EXCEPT that it's more durable.
I think this may be problematic, since it introduces the issue of rather safe shotgun barrages. |
Oh yes, give infantry with armor long/medium range weapons. That would be sweet. In my sweet Soviet OP build I imagine them with 6 SVTs or 6 Guards Mosin Nagants. Just imagine this type of stuff behind a green cover. |
E8 is kind of ok, but I wish there was a thread about phosphorous smoke strike. It is extremely expensive and excessive. It looks like this ability was designed with 4v4 in mind.
And 76mm is awesome, partially because of the doctrine it is in. On the other hand, the situation with M4C is complete opposite, because of the weird and awkward Land-lease doctrine. |
I'm still kind of puzzled how to trade as OKW with UKF early game. The issue becomes pretty obvious in 2v2. At least OST have HMG42 to keep the horde at bay, but OKW is too punishing.
I'm really enjoying current patch, with an exception of playing against Brits early game. It is pure cancer. Imo the issue is their strength early game, but not necessary mid or lategame, when you have armor and/or elite infantry at your disposal to rectify the situation.
Perhaps bolster should be available at T3 or be more expensive.
Verdict: definitely too strong. |
Tommies cover bonus can be salvaged and it is not the cause of problem, it work for ostruppen for instance.
The rout of problem lies more to all the nobrainer upgrade tommies have available to them like bolster/medic/pyro weapon upgrades.
UKF would become allot more easier to balance if this buffes become side-grades instead of upgrade.
For instance:
Bolster becomes a individual upgrade taking up a weapons while tommies have cost reduce to 260
Pyro becomes an upgrade giving scope Enfields and taking up all slot while removing cover mechanism
Medic upgrade replace one entity with medic armed with a pistol
and so on
It would have been nice if there was something like 'recon' upgrade, giving them more accurate riles, lower range AT nades and slightly increased sight (with vet, perhaps in line what engineers have) + abilities from pyro. 4 men squad, upgrade takes 1 weapon slot.
Medic upgrade gives IS 5th men.
Remove bolster upgrade, but increase t1 price. Sappers always spawn as 5-men in this case. Remove sight bonus in cover.

I'm kind of curious, why Falls have their insane fg-42s, while storms can't have their STGs? |
