Sappers have 0.9 RA for 10mp more than pios. With a 5man upgrade, they're ok as assault inf. Of course they'll lose to pgrens since even with the 5man upgrade they cost much less than pgrens. However, they can easily beat grens. Sappers actually do receive RA bonuses through vet.

RE recieved accuracy and vet was hit with a sledgehammer nerf at the end of 2017.

The issue I take with your point is that your saying RE count as assault units and on par in the same role.

They're not, by your logic OKW don't need obers as they have sturms.

Again post actual assault units (shocks, pgren, ranger) RA and compare royal engies. Grens stomp all over royal engies as they have great combat vet. Just because RE recieved accuracy is an inch better than rear echelon or pios that doesn't exactly mean they are on par with shocks.

The Shreckblob was a result of Panzershrecks being able to snipe infantry and squads getting a single panzershreck, which meant 80% of their anti-infantry power survived. They were also evenly distributed throughout the blob, so you couldn't focus down the AT squad then send in the tanks to fight the AI squads.

Panzerfusilier shrecks come in pairs, so you'll have to concentrate your AT on one or two squads which can then be dealt with much like you deal with AT PGrens or REs.

Furthermore, since AT weapons were changed to deal next to no damage to infantry, even giving shrecks back to Volks wouldn't be as strong now. There's a reason you don't see bazookas on Riflemen any more.

I think it's true what you say,but imo there's two things that you neglect to add

1: pgrens are 340mp and 9? Pop cap, they are not easy to horde and easy to drain. Pfuz have 5 levels of vet and are 250mp, 7pop? Much easier to blob.

2: I would argue Zooks were never good for blobs,you always lacked the pen and extra alpha "volley" damage from a old volk blob popping your Sherman despite them having faster reload. A PIV would always deflect enough shots to escape.

Shrek snipes happened but I think you're looking back with foggy memory, you would get a few snipes but it was far from a reliable thing. I would say it was the old vet 5 terminator volk vet that made them bulletproof that was the issue.

I actually had the M10 and Sherman IV bundled together.

Funny enough I now see that I also mentioned the M3 Scout Car from the Soviets, the M3 Lend-lease supply halftrack with American weapons and the M5 Stuart as well there. I kinda forgot about that.

The sherman would indeed make more sense for this doc, halftrack and M10 are rather mediocre for two slots. Smoke raid pointless when you have a mortar for free smoke+probably a Cromwell lategame.

Maybe add a "American armour slot" replaces Cromwell with Sherman and adds in M10. Slot halftrack in, give off map 105 howitzer for free spot or replace smoke raid with it.

In cheatmod you can see how well rangers perform or even conscripts but you don't see them used often in the actual game. By the time panzergrenadiers come out, they usually have to deal with already vetted or even upgraded infantry and light vehicles which they are very vulnerable to unless upgraded with panzershrecks which makes them useless against infantry. And they cost 9 pop cap.

The only "elite" allied squad that comes earlier is penals, even then the sov player will have tech repercussions. Possibly cav rifles too but pgrens if you use cheatmod come out as the superior unit.

I don't see how they arrive "late" in your words when not even rushing them they are unlocked before your opponent even has AEC/Stuart/t-70. (Just watched a game from Jove where he had one as his 5th unit or so, PGA also rushes pgrens quite often and I've seen it work). I mean you can argue obers arrive late but pgrens... You can build them before allies hit 3command points, that's not late at all.

But of course if you go for heavy T1 with sniper, double MG, mortar and loads of grens etc etc until you need a Pak then of course they will arrive late. But the issue is between the chair and the keyboard here not the unit itself.

Personally I think the biggest issue with people's conceptions of pgrens is they don't realize how beast they are at vet 3. Usually people just waste them putting shreks on which is a noobtrap unless you need to push back Jackson or M10 etc.

But vet 3 vanilla pgrens are literal terminators, you can just run into engagements and win.

Static combat between units maybe, but no one parks an AEC to be plastered by anyhing that penns it.

I think retarded plays should be avoided in a argumented discussion. As you stated, no one gets a Ostw to counter AEC nor M70 nor AAFH

And noone builds centuar to kill puma

Which is my point, despite these units being able to pen they are not built as a counter. Easier to just spam medium tanks
