Its got more weight on it than other MGs. Other MGs are placed such that they can support their t0 units but Soviet have no t0 units worth a damn in that regard. The maxim has an odd design where it's supposed to attack and defend. The issue imo lies in the direction oh having it do both at the same time. If it's defensive exclusively you can hold ground, but have nothing to take it. It's its offensive primarily then you have no means to stop massed infantry and if it's like it is in live then you have the worst of both in that you need to rely on Conscripts as damage dealers but it also can't stop shit walking straight at it with Supression.
The maxim isn't like other MGs and I think the error in its balancing has been treating it like it IS like the other MGs. It's something else entirely. It needs to fill the same role, but also another.

Rak dies easier, even on retreat. How about we reduce its pen on vet? or its retreat slower? or a delay to fire from camo? So many nice choices.
if you allow rak to walk behind you, either your front lines are too high too open, or the okw player has to lose micro on their other units, sure those high apm pros will do better, but for most, babysitting 1-2 units towards back line needs to be rewarded.
losing a katy and ambulance is not the worse thing. this is a unique choice, asymmetrical tactics and not overpowering with a little tweak.

But what people want is like fixing the maxim deathloop. You can't have something which is not there to implement. Other AT guns block shots because the actual model is big enough to block them.
Also a "blocked" shot will still most likely kill the models operating the weapon.
use another at gun ? just chacge the color of one of them and done pak 38 |
Watched first 4 minutes, and I'm still unconvinced it's a "good" unit. mediocre for price I'd say. Yes it had a couple good shots in there but it doesn't seem to be able to operate independantly. It almost always had another unit providing damage support. You may say "well no unit should operate independantly". Of course no unit should be a 1 man/tank army, but that doesn't mean you should be able to lounge infront of the most expensive unit ingame and not feel the imminent threat of being wiped. You can't sit in front of a t70 and not feel the threat of being wiped. Not to mention your opponets complete lack of mines or TDs. The only TD I saw was an Su-85 running up to the rear of the KT almost. And although the video should not be a prime example of how good the KT may or may not be, I wasn't impressed by it. Although I did notice the veterancy, which I hope is much easier to obatin now.
