This unit does have decent armour and can be spammed (meaning it's not actually a heavy...) - but it lacks any relevant firepower, even compared to the upgunned T34.

Surely its MG should be buffed accordingly?

Honestly, it'll take more than that to save the KV-1

It would be weird to give it a different gun than a t34... Maybe if it's a slight ROF increase.
What I could see is a massive HP pool, just like churchills, though I'm not sure if it would make the tank much more useful anyway.

Thing is, churchill far outclasses a KV1.

This tank is in one doc, B4 commander, which is not important in the meta. If the B4 functioned at all I would consider balancing this unit. Honestly though with SU85 buffs this unit maybe sufficient as is, but so rarely used hard to really know.

Moreover, Churchill exceeds IS-2:
IS-2:
- Very soft, I almost killed the IS-2 with two squads of Folk, only DSHK struck me damage
- GNR gun (very unreliable)
- Two commanders with IS-2, one I don't use (because shock troops rule)
- limited
Cherchel:
- Very hard, holding great damage against Folk blob
- can counter Panther
- Unlimited
- can throw grenades
- Specialization bonuses (air blasting round, heavy engineers)

now that the shrek hordes are gone, KV1s will be actually pretty good now.

With a bit of RNG they kill lots of infantry, just keep them still while they fire.

KV-1 can at least stand up to the Panzer IV and maybe a panther

The heaviest tank the KV-8 can take on with the 45mm is the Stug E or Pz IV C.

Although why would anyone choose this commander for mediocre B-4 and KV-1 when you could just go Shock Rifle and get IS-2 and KV-8?

It definitely needs some more HP at least, considering how soft its armor is and its 800 HP, the thing is as durable as a T34/85 while having meh firepower.

Funny thing is, this gun has worse RoF than t-34s one now...

I think everyone can agree that the KV-1 is pretty lack-luster. At the VERY least it would benefit from the same hull MG buff as the T34 in the Balance Mod. Problem is that it suffers from the same problems as the Churchill - the "damage sponge" role is just of limited use in most circumstances. Though with the newly buffed SU-85 at least it has actual firepower to screen for now so it might become more useful in meatgrinder matches.

It's really sad but doctrinal units just aren't on Relic's radar at all - Greyhound, Recon Paratroopers, KV1, Howitzers, Ass Grens/Engineers, Bulldozer Sherman... they are all pretty meh and a few buffs here and there would be welcomes to inject some commander diversity and freshness into the game.

And IS-2 can't?? IS-2 is better than a Tiger, what are you smoking.

Yeah it could do with some more health, and maybe the same gun and mg changes the t34 is getting.

It has the same health (or less vet 2 panther lol) but worse armour than mediums. Basically only a heavy tank due to its speed.

First of all, KV1 needs veterancy rework.
It has vet buffs like a medium flanking tank, not slow, big and heavy sponge.

Secondly, right know you can at least stac triple 4% armor bulletin to make it a bit more useful but it will be gone soon :foreveralone:

Relic only buffs OKW.

Any and all soviet buffs will be immediately revoked.

If KV-1's crappy firepower is left untouched, its sole redeeming point would be to be a damage sponge. Make it as durable as a Churchill but somewhat cheaper. Then it can be the meatshield for the new Su85s.

IS-2 regularly bounces PZ-4 aft, because it oblique GNR gun.
And no, I think Tiger is better. Due to the fact that it is less GNR - it is more effective.

They should make the KV1 and KV8 just give all the relevant commanders a vanilla KV-1 that can upgrade to flamethrowers.

The respective commander and unit will be better since it can perform a much better AI role.
