Another simple suggestion: all engineer squads should be able to put away their minesweeper. Right now only Sturmpioneers can do this.

That would be awesome

I usually don't use minesweepers until I run into mines just for that reason that it makes the squad weaker (or never and just drive over points with tanks or put arty on them). So I think it would be nice to change that.

I had the same idea as the OP but i was scared of this forum and that's why i didn't bring this up.
I once suggested that USF should get non doc mines and they fell all over me with the argument "asymmetrical balance". If i was Luvnest or Siberian they would applaud the idea but you know how it is, you have to have a good name to suggest something like this. BTW, i heard many pro players that have suggested it too, but who cares right?

Anyway, i like this idea!

I agree, minesweepers should have "put away" option.

Minesweepers aren't a no-brainer upgrade. If you want your engis or pios to serve in defensive/support role, you take minesweepers. If you want offensive role, you take flamethrower or leave them be. More upgrades should have visible and important drawbacks, not less.

I think the problem isn't that much the (in)ability to holster sweeper, but the inability to actually vet them to get the repair bonuses.

While repairing shouldn't grant vet since its easy to abuse(especially for USF), mine kills/damage should give some exp to pios/CEs as RETs already vet up and scale very decently.

Then I would like to see a weaponupgrade for the Sturmpios too. Just like any other engineers squad.

Sturm Pio's already come with an upgrade, that is built into their cost. They get AR's which all other factions have to pay to unlock in some fashion.

Katitof hit the nail on the head, sweepers prevent in OH and Soviet army the squad from gaining vet. This should not be the case. RE's and RoyalEng I have less sympathy for because they can carry weapons. However, to be consistent they should likely also gain the ability to sling the sweeper up if they want more firepower.

The reason sturmpios can do it is because they're a core fighting unit.

Rear echelon, Combat Engies and pioneers are cheap and expendable.

Sappers are slightly different vecause of anvil tactics but they're still mostly a cheap utility unit.

Sturmpios on the other hand are uniquely expensive so letting them do this is necessary.

As Katitof says, rather than bolster you should be able to get xp from mines. Although that would lead into vet3 engineers on most games (boom demo!)

It was that way in COH1, definitely only way to get vet three on sweepers unless you let them fight awhile before getting the upgrade.
