Bug fixing is still worth getting excited about. The best thing about fixing bugs is that they aren't controversial like balance changes.
This. IMO bug fixes are more important than balance. |
Good RTSs are hard. They require many hours of regular practice. Sure, they're rewarding in the long run but you can also feel pretty good by pressing 'A' to assassinate.
What I mean is, that the game market is pretty saturated and if you're itching for a dopamine fix, it's unlikely your instinct will be to trudge through hundreds of defeats, replays and guides in order to get good and feel good.
By the time you get good at it, the game is already dead and people are moving on. That's the sad truth about most RTS games, specially now that F2P MOBA games are becoming huge. |
It's all about probabilities man. I look at this game like texas hold 'em. Pocket aces will in most games win against a 10-9 for example, but in some cases the 10-9 pull ahead. Does this mean you cannot suggest to a new player that pocket aces could be more relied on than a 10-9?
You see my point? Everything in this game is RNG based but there usually is a probable outcome. Just because random numbers are involved doesn't mean you can't give advice on unit match ups… If grens are more likely to win at long range then cons are, i think you should advice a newbie to engage at long range with grens, rather than to say "it's all about luck anyway so engage at any range".
I guess I'm a little bit frustrated of Cons rushing my Grens... I see your point. |
I wasn't aware this was a problem. I thought the problem with blobs was they were so effective at long range and it made you just a-move towards the enemy and win every engagement. Having to close in increases micro and the risk of being subjected to MG fire, mines, HE-rounds etc. But then again, i might have mistaken where the problem lies.
Considering the flaws in the current suppression mechanics, it's not gonna be that hard to overwhelm MGs. Your statement is true though, it's riskier that way. But still, it's not gonna fully solve the problem, specially with higher vets, they simply don't die. IMO tweaking them in a way that they become better AI and only have light AT capabilities would be better. Just my opinion, might be wrong. |
This is an excellent idea but i'm not sure i have the in depth knowledge about every unit to do this. If some one has time and knowledge to do this, ill gladly add it in.
This is RNG based. Grens lose to Cons even at long range sometimes, if they lose a model faster than Cons do. It has been discussed, you can't say "Grens are always better at long range". |
But that wouldn't scale at all into late game. A schreck with good close range penetration would still be viable as a flank protector against mediums and heavies in late game...
I think if they don't have that much late game AT wouldn't heart, provided that Rakketen is buffed a little. With high penetration at close range, blobbers would still charge you with 6-7 squads. |
Yeah and the german scout ca…. Oh wait…
Anyway, what do you guys say about reducing volk schreck penetration dramatically at long range, so they have a rough time penetrating mediums at long range? This way screcks would not snipe medium tanks like it's nobodies business but would still be viable early game AT and close range flank support for the jagdpanzer for example.
That's why some people (including me) are talking about PzB AT rifle. If you want to lower Schrecks damage, penetration, and cost to compensate just give them 2 PzBs to counter early game light vehicle. This way a Volks blob will only does some damage to allied medium armor only if they flank them, and they won't melt them in one volley. You don't have to change their vet system either. |
Your option No.2 kinda makes sense. I don't want it to become a passive ability because Soviets don't have too much problem with map control (for the love of god please do not start a UBERS KILL MY CONS I CANT CAPTURE thread, that's another issue).
Secure mode is kinda useless as you said, but spending some muni for a blitzkrieg like ability seems cool and at least you can sometimes rely on it. |
Great stuff man, a lot of details to read and learn. That must have taken a lot of time, Thanks. |
P47. That is all
Seriously, you only chance is to disable their heavies and call in P47. Before that, spam shermans. Don't lose them, you can even surprise him by calling in 2 shermans and then attacking from 2 positions. Make good use of those M20 mines.
Pray to RNG Jesus, and regular Jesus while you are at it to win. |
