However, it's the only way to make a reliable and historically accurate last faction. I don't know how relic could add italian, japanese, even afrika korps and fit it with the game.
Not true. The Fallschirm-Panzerkorps of the Luftwaffe is another historical choice to model the last faction on. |
I don't know. This one just seems silly through and through.
Seems like a troll vision, but giving it the benefit of the doubt. |
A Jpanther for their heavy tank? It kind of deviates from the spammable trash / fragile hard hitter -dynamic, though. |
Actually, now having looked through the A Korps equipment, only the Panzerjäger I and Panzer II F are really all that out-of-place.. I still think that the desert gear doesn't fit well in to CoH2, and all the other AK equipment can be incorporated into the game through the Fallschirm-Panzerkorps, which would thematically be more suitable.
A detachment of the early formation that evolved into the FS-PzKorps even fought in North Africa along the Afrika Korps.. |
Maybe they could have an MG 08, it was used in WW2
But what infantry/builder units could it have?
And maybe a nebelwerfer?
BTW Italy would be better as a few commanders, with special italian units
Of course, the Nebel! How could I forget. Put that in T1 for smoke generation and indirect suppression, but low lethality. Drop LG 40 to the 7,5 cm version for mainly AT duty. MG 08 would work well too in this faction, though people would complain about having another Maxim-derivative.
Infantry would be Luftwaffe Ground Troops as builder units and very cheap spammable trash, Fallschirmjägers as fragile elite inf, and maybe HG PzGrenadiers for mid-tier infantry? Though I don't know how to differentiate them from the existing Grens and PzGrens, other than having a field blue uniform and Splittertarn camo. |
Panzer Lehr would be another good pick, though. |
Afrika Korps has vastly outdated equipment by 44 / 45. All the relevant equipment AK used would fit Fallschirm-Panzerkorps better and be more historical to boot (they used Pz III late into the war), unless you insist troops should run around winter Stalingrad wearing shorts and pith helmets. |
As always, I'm rooting for the Luftwaffe / Hermann Göring Panzerkorps faction. Field blue uniforms, theme of army would be spammable trash screening fragile hard hitters.
The HG PzKorps fought on all fronts, so makes sense historically.
T0 Luftwaffe Ground Troops for basic trash infantry / builder, Kettenkrad scout/capper.
T1 buildable Falls for fragile elite infantry. 10,5cm LG 40 for Antitank and light arty.
T2 Panzer III for cheap medium armor. Wirbelwind for suppression / AI. Marder III for fragile AT armor. PzIII upgradable to Flammpanzer III.
T3 Wespe for heavy arty, Nashorn for heavy fragile AT, StuH heavy fragile AI
FlaK 88 and Quad flak as emplacements. |
It's just that immediately when Italy or Japan is introduced, they'll be forced to delve very deep into fantasy tank territory to get them to be viable gameplay-wise. So it's not just a case of slight unrealism with "why Japan in Europe" or "why Italy in 44/45", it's neck-deep into fantasies right away.
People keep saying that this game is unrealistic to begin with, so any arguments based on history or realism are moot, but there are several levels of realism between total fantasy and total simulation.
At the moment we're still keeping with some kind of authentic feeling with regards to equipment, camo and factions, even though mixed allies and some of the weirder skins make me cringe a bit already. I'm hoping that they don't completely forsake all semblance of authenticity and go all-out World of Tanks with the game.
There's still enough unused German equipment for a third faction. |
Didn't really see the difference between the actual non-historical ones and Pink Panther mods..
From what I understand, and judging by all the Blood skin users and Kim-Jong Il-decals in custom games, a lot of people couldn't care less for any semblance of authenticity (I hesitate to say 'realism'), so there may be a lot more of people not ticking that box to opt out than you think.
I think this was the best compromise between going all out with fantasy skins and unfunny stuff and keeping it strictly quasi-historical.
But yea, they could be sold at a lower price. It might be a disincentive to make weird skins, but creators have less restrictions and can make more kinds of them. Compensate by mass producing, no? |
