I think what you don't realize is that the ostwind was a direct successor to the wirbelwind.
Your point being..? That it shouldn't be used by OKW, since OKW is flavored as the later version of Ostheer?
We're not confined to history that much. It being a armored mobile suppression platform in gameplay terms is entirely plausible with regards to historical facts and vehicle weapon specifications.
Sure, there is some role overlap with FlaK HT, but that can only fire when stationary and is quite squishy. |
Werbelwind is just a dinkier ostwind :/
Ostwind is almost pure AI DPS. Wirbelwind could be an armored suppression platform that suppresses even on the move. Like a Flak HT on steroids. |
Wirbelwind! Mobile and armored suppression platform.

I think all light vehicles should evolve into utility or support vehicles if you play them well in the early game. If nothing else, just give them sight. The T70, Kubel and 222 are pretty well designed, though the T70 is the best one. |
Definitely what I usually hear about who don't like it, claims I certainly can't discount, but that's what I and probably a good bit find fun about it. I just take in all the CHAINSWORDS, COUNTLESS BILLIONS DYING IN THE HOPES OF THE OVERALL'S SURVIVAL, OPPRESSIVE REGIME FORMED OUT OF AN IRONIC RELIGION junk at once and chuckle.
Also, Orks are black comedy incarnate which might be more your thing if you find the seriousness the other factions give off to be impenetrable.
Yea, I agree I may lack the proper sense of humor for the setting, and I do think I find the enjoyable mindset you speak of in the Orks.
Thing is, I'd LIKE to really like the setting, I've often contemplated putting together one of the many Imperial Guard regiments. I'd just like to be able to take it seriously, since it's got a lot of potential that way, too. |
I don't know. The lore has it's strong points, and the theology behind the Chaos Gods and the Warp is actually pretty deep and well-thought stuff when you dig into it, but lately the setting seems to have gone a bit over-the-top regarding the level of fascism and fanaticism in the Imperium of Man.
Seems like they're really trying hard to be dark and edgy, and it all comes off a bit juvenile if compared to other similar settings, like Tolkien.
But as a setting for an RTS, it's pretty much perfect. Lots of factions, any combination of alliances and enemies is acceptable, lots of different gear to be modelled.. |
Yes, bayonet kills do take place even today, but I think we can agree that on the whole they are exceedingly rare when compared to inflicted point-blank gunshot wounds in close combat.
The shortened ranges ingame would emphasize hand-to-hand combat too much, would stray too far away from realism and change the entire inner mechanics of the game to boot. |
The maps are generic enough to allow glazing over being around Moscow; with UKF and USF vs. OKW and OST you can just imagine being anywhere else. SOV and other Allies makes me cringe, though.
And for the record, there were Italians on the Eastern Front as well, just drop the shorts and it's plausible enough. |
If this is an April Fools' thing, it will backfire badly, unless they announce a real 3rd faction later on. It's just too cruel for the believers in a further expansion. |
The desert is such a different landscape and combat environment to continental Europe, that I don't know how you could make them mix. Soviet conscripts running around oasises? Afrika Schutzen running around Stalingrad snow in shorts and pith helmets?
The Jagdtiger would also completely dominate that open terrain, unless the maps are built like they are now. But then after that what would the desert bring to the game other than conflicting aesthetics?
I just don't see the point of the AK, when all the equipment is available in other ways. Is it just that people love the legend of the AK? |
