I know this is a thread about the t34 ... But in general I find the biggest problem with armor battles isn't with t34 vs p4 (sure the p4 is better but its also more expensive), I can even deal with nossing panthers even though its annoying as sin and encourages reckless play, but its when we get into late game and German tigers start to roll out that things get rediculous. The tank is far too powerful for its cost and shouldn't be spammabke like it is. I'm okay with it being the best tank like it was in vcoh (exception of jadgpanther and king tiger) but I hate the spamability of it in coh2. Maybe significantly increase the call in cooldown or make it cost the same as an is2 (its a joke that its cheaper in the first place)
Long story short leave t34s as they are but get rid of tiger spam. Which will make t34s more viable late since enough of them can take out panthers at least but going against a tiger even with a hoard of them turns to ram RNG which isn't fun for anyone (don't get me wrong I love the ram ability but not in this case)
I generally agree with your analysis, but disagree with your solutions. Tigers are spammable because they come early enough to avoid T4 builds, and are the only heavy tank the Ost has right now (beside the TD elephant). In addition, it is cheaper than the IS-2 because it is not as useful. The IS-2 can wipe squads reliably, and can engage Ost armor. On the other hand, the tiger is just good against everything, and not great at anything. Importantly you can't wipe squads reliably. And it is very vulnerable to cheap Soviet mines and AT nades (both of which have too much RNG involved in how they crit units right now).
I think Ram should be removed, it is so random as to be stupid. In no case does it make the game fun or rely on skill. It is simply the ability to potentially turn a battle you otherwise would have lost, which is the problem with the TA. If ram were removed it would be fine to give the T34 a buff. However, I really think what the T34 needs is an upgrade that will allow it to be used latter in the game if the Ost player gets heavy tanks. This is how the very ok unupgraded Sherman managed to be made viable in late game vs. the much superior Tiger tank in vCOH for a reason. |
Wait, there are bulletins that aren't useless?
Also I still have yet to understand why their are build time decreases for call-ins. Are you seriously floating 1000+mp all game? Why?
Agreed, NKVD is really useless. Especially since to get full use of this commander you need to select it as the game starts.
For the Ost I find that many commanders are lack luster since they rely on munitions heavily. Therefore, I would say there are many mediocre to useless commanders, and a few good ones. |
The free weekend was useful because I got to try out new commanders. The abrupt ending of it, while I was in game that crashed my computer, was not.
Also after having played a lot of these new commanders I can say we are still badly in need of a balanced game to play interesting matches. |
i dont think every infantry in game should get a vehicle snaring ability.
assault grenadiers are out done in every way by pgrens which is non doctrinal and I think they are a needless addition to the german army.
they come too early so they cannot be too powerful, making them fairly useless late game due to lack of scaling. make them come 1cp later and no one will bother about them because pzgrens are already hitting the field. buff them and they will screw early game balance against conscripts. make them cheaper and they are still a bad investment since they cannot protect themselves from vehicles.
so yea, where do they actually fit?
This is a valid point. The attempt to fit everything in by DLC so it can be charged for has resulted in units that have no place. Since they won't go away they do need some help though; so we can't let the problem go...sadly. If I could have it my way I would either remove them or buff them significantly and place them at 2 cp's, or possibly even 3, but that would defeat the purpose of the commander. |
Outside the elephant its frontal armor is thebhihhest in game. Its just thenPak 43 has 100% Pen on everything and can kill any SU tank in three shots. And Panthers have high Pen and the same hps.
Imho the IS2 should have Tiger HPs instead of a panthers. Since ost has so many high pen units SU might as well ignore the armor stat and focus on hps.
Are you suggesting a serious buff to the IS-2 while leaving the Tiger the same? Seriously please think about the balance issues that would cause. |
Pretty sure shocks were well used at 2cp's. They don't have AT because they are used by soviets looking to add to their arsenal with AI. Also shocks are free to pick up weapons and make short work of tanks if they get a shrek. That first statement you make is completely incorrect and non-logical.
You can't spam PG's against guards because that player often goes snipers. If you spam PG's you lost on mp bleed. Guards stand a great chance against PG's. You can use their grenades to hurt PG's bad. In addition, I use guards to take on PG's regularly. They just need to be in cover before the PG's arrive. Which they will be because they come out before and you should have map control by then.
Also in a 2v2 shocks and guards are both deployed at the same time. How exactly do you stop these two units when the units designed to stop them are already hard countered before they enter the field?
Wong I really encourage you to read more of Gustav's thread about early elite infantry ( http://www.coh2.org/topic/12160/shocktroops-at-1cp). You will learn a lot, and be disabused of the notions that elite troops at 1cp are good.
I also encourage you to link to your player card so I can see just where you sit in the rankings. I am having a really hard time understanding how you are coming to your conclusions. Feel free to look me up my name here is the same as the one I use on Steam. |
The ISU-152 requires a lot of support to function properly. Germans have, unlike the soviets, plenty of main battle tank options that can engage and circle an ISU-152 and take it out in a timely fashion. This is not only do to the germans superior penetration and dps values on their main battle tanks, but also due to the ISU-152s weak side/rear armor.
The elephant on the other hand is much more difficult to take out. The soviets main tank destroyer does not have a turret and is an easy target, and their main battle tank has low penetration and DPS. Even when flanked by a T34, the elephants thick armor and massive HP ensures that you have plenty of time to take out the T34 before the elephant goes down, even when caught unsupported.
I have never had a problem taking elephants out. If you are discussing a doctrinal unit as if every Ost player will deploy it I am going to say mark target and 1 T34, done.
Or if you can't do that try guards, or failing that, try shocks with a shrek when you find one. Or if all that fails get a zis. Or use kats to pick away at it. Or, and I cannot stress this enough, place mines as you retreat. You have the munitions. Elephant with engine damage is dead. You can bomb it, you can strafe it, you can hit it with arty, and it can't move. Keep in mind you can lose 3 t34's and come out ahead when fighting an elephant.
You can beat it using only 2 su85's, going shocks, and relying on other units to bring it down. It was easy to lure the elephant into a duel with 2 su85's and use mines and bombing runs with kats to whittle away at supporting units and it. Even better the player was desperate to repair the elephant so I would stop firing arty for long periods to encourage pioneers to approach and repair then hit it with a combined strike to bleed out man power. Eventually killed it with 1 su85 shot to the front when it was low health. In addition, I knew at all times where his entire army was located since he could not leave the elephant. Elephants are hard counters to soviet camping game play approach, but relatively weak to a mobile and aggressive soviet player.
This is not really a discussion about 152 and elephant. This is about Tiger and IS2. I really don't feel either the 152 or the elephant is not filling its role well. |
Yeah,if you're about ten and still on pocket money.
Jesus, the DLC is nickel-and-dime prices. The whining is getting old.
To be fair this is a tongue and cheek response and to buy 4 commanders is $20, which is quite a bit.
I do agree that there has been a lot of complaining about DLC material, but I think its fair. The customer did not want the game to be implemented this way and they are voicing their concern. |
I am also concerned that this new DLC drop may be another stupid bunch of OP commanders. If that happens I will be done with the game as this will be the third strike.
My real disappointment with this game has been how far it strayed from vCOH.
The amount of commanders is just getting ridiculous. I used to be able to think about counters my opponent might have and their strategy. Now I feel like everything is so random.
I don't care if they don't want to support the game in a year, but I did think I was purchasing a finished product when I picked up COH2. I clearly was incorrect. |
To share my piece of experience (although I play compstomp mainly, therefore can't really comment on micro though)
If you want to thoroughly test the Tiger vs IS-2, then play the German Kharkov divide mission from the latest ToW on General, you'll face 2 unvetted and 2 vetted IS-2s. Played that about 3-4 times now (just for the bulletins) and never lost a Tiger to a IS-2 (if both were full health and the same vet lvl of course). In my opinion Tiger is ok as it is now, perhaps a tiny bit more of AT damage and bit better range at most. If I'm not mistaken Panther has somewhat higher penetration (and or AT damage?) due to its better gun but it's very very bad against infantry for that matter. I would choose the Tiger over the Panther any time.
About Brummbär, I think this unit is underestimated, it shreds enemy infantry, has decent armor, can take on a T-34/76, has crew shock... Yeah, its weaknesses are that it's a casemate tank and a long reload time, apart from that I think it's a fantastic AI tank
Pretty sure TOW tiger is not multiplayer tiger. Not just because of the abilities, but also because TOW tiger uses old vet system. So two are unfortunately not comparable.
Brumbar is fine vs. comp, but is incredibly underwhelming vs. humans. |
