LOL Other day I pumped out 3 ISUs for the lolz. Heavy Tanks OP in this game.
Which game mode are we talking? |
My personal faction preference depends on who's searching.
89% Searching as Axis = I choose Soviets.
67% Searching as Allies = I choose Oberkommando West.
I don't own the US forces and I would probably play Ostheer still, but I would rather git gud with Oberkommando first before switching it up.
I have noticed I play a lot more with Soviets, because there's usually more axis players online. I find for hte most part it's fairly balanced though, It's rare for me to see a consistent 80/20 split or worse. |
^I played against that last night, it was quite brutal. At first I thought the Kubel would bleed the snipers enough to stop him, but they could retreat and get away pretty easily. As soon as Guards arrived, even the Luchs couldn't save me. I feel I could have done some things better. |
The legends are true. I WAS THERE.
The Kubel King was strong and mighty. He brought dakka and fire, and the Americans did tremble. In desperation, come the last hours of their fight, the cowardly yanks had a tank shoot our lord and savior down. But he will return, and our salvation will come.
It's been foretold that a special Command Kubelwagon will come via DLC.
It has 5% more health, tactical smoke and is amphibious. |
Sure, the American Public may want to see this shit but I personally hated Inglorious Bastards (The only saving grace was the exceptional performance by Christopher Waltz). Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and this is mine. Although there's clearly a market for making extremely American biased war films, my brain automatically detests how unrealistic it is. Although I can suspend a certain amount of disbelief for any movie, the suspension of belief is simply too much given how much I've studied WW2.
It's not even the fact that I hate Americans, because I don't. I love America and I admire their scientific and economic contributions to the world (As of late, their political and military contributions have been questionable). I just can't accept the premise that a handful of soldiers can kill a much, much larger force of soldiers without sustaining any casualties what so ever and in an almost comical fashion (In the case of Inglorious B.). I'd have the same reaction if a German-biased film game out showing, say, a group of Falschirmjaegers absolutely annihilating whole squadrons of Americans and then doing the equivalent of teabagging their dead bodies (As was the case in Inglorious bastards). Like I said, in any movie I can tolerate a certain amount of bullshit but generally American war films take the cake (Tiger round not penning a Sherman from 30m at any angle, for instance).
I didn't particularly like Inglorious Basterds either, at least not as much as Tarantino's older movies (still better than Django I thought, which I really disliked), but I get the feeling that the movie was trying to make the Basterds as unlikable as possible. They basically made them look and behave like the 'bad guys' for a lot of the movie, and I think it's telling that most audiences still walked away with the mindset of 'Those guys were awesome!', even though they spent a good chunk of the movie killing and torturing prisoners of war, and mutilating them.
As I said, the most heroic character in the movie was probably the German officer, whereas the Americans for the most part were portrayed as monsters or barbaric. |
If the Germans in the film are anything more than the most incompetent, aimless fuckwits Earth has ever seen then the movie will be buried forever as Nazi propaganda.
I do want to say that Inglorious Basterds had German soldiers portrayed in a fairer light, they were more heroic and likeable than the Americans a few times. Particularly the officer in the scene;
"Did you get that for killing Jews?"
"No, for bravery." |
You don't right-click to fire the rocket at a unit like you would do with any other unit where right is move/attack.
You select the sturmtiger, hit 'R' (or 'Z' if you are using grit-hotkeys) to select the firing ability, and you left-click on an enemy model. The rocket is an 'ability' that does not auto-fire when you right-click an enemy unit. For the Sturmtiger right-click is movement only.
Edit: So just to be clear, you always left-click to fire the rocket. Left-click on an enemy model and it will track, left-click on the ground and it will not track.
Ohhhhhhhhh, now I understand! I thought the game was spazzing out or something.
Okay, I had no idea I could that, but I'll give it another shot next time I play, thanks! |
So any game with dice is not fair to you. Like Monopoly and other board games. That's a tough existence, to me. I'm ok as long as I have the same chance as my opponent.
Life is pretty much a big rng. Any one of us could be forced to being mixed up in any one of the world conflicts/tragedies happening lately.
Maybe 'fair' is the wrong word. I would say it's not really a competition or balanced game though.
I can still play monopoly and have a ton of fun, same as Company of Heroes, but I probably wouldn't take Monopoly seriously enough to go enter a tournament for it for example. Company of Heroes isn't so RNG dependent that you can't have legitimate tournaments and good players etc, but I do think it takes away a bit of the competitive balance, if you know what I mean? While there are still top players and they'll win everytime against bad players, they aren't immune to something like 3 shots of an AT gun bouncing because of bad RNG, or a squad getting wiped out by a lucky grenade early in the match. Sure they can minimise the risk, which is a skill, as I said, but they can still fall prey to RNG which they have zero control over.
It's like, imagine if in Chess, you had a random chance of your Pawn not being able to kill a Knight. Like, you had a roll a dice when taking a Knight piece and if it landed on 1 then you couldn't take that piece. Sure you can say "hey it's only a 12% chance" or "You shouldn't put your pawn in that risky position", but it's still putting an element of chance in a game that otherwise is purely down to the players.

I don't mind a bit of RNG, but I can't consider CoH ever to be truly balanced or fair as long as you can get things like squad wipes with a lucky shot from a tank or be lucky and get a better engine critical one time than another.
That's purely a dice roll. I understand that managing risks is part of the game too and is a competitive skill, but as I said, I feel the game could work without some arbitrary ones. Most obvious and recent are things like 'deploying with random amount of veterancy'.
I do also accept that there are other multiplayer/competitive games out there with RNG elements (Counter Strike for example), but I still feel that the ultimate aim of a game that wants to be truly 'balanced and competitive' should be to remove all random factors from the match.
Either way, I play the game purely for fun and try not to take it too seriously, because getting a 6 man squad wiped by a 'lucky' grenade would be too frustrating for me otherwise. Yes, I am bad at this game before anyone feels the need to point that out. |
I had a play around with it last night to horrible effect, haha.
I think it was a bad combination of being out of practice in general and not being familiar with the unit, but I definitely see potential in it. I think it's probably not a great idea for me to get it as the first heavy armour unit (I think I'd still go the command panther first), but I can see myself calling it in afterwards or in certain matches.
I did find the 'right click attack' option to be a bit finnicky though. I tried to get it to attack some riflemen and it seemed to refuse to actually launch the rocket. Most likely it was because they were scrambling about and throwing off it's arc, but I did notice it being very particular in that firing mode. |
