Am I the only one who hasn't found this unit to be all that amazing?
I've used it in 1v1 a few times and I hardly see it get squad wipes. It's a good general purpose assault gun (as the AT is quite good too) if it's protected, but I rarely see it destroying armies.
I don't play team games, so is it that much more dangerous in 2v2 and up? |
^Even then, you can recrew with Shock Troopers, then merge conscripts into that AT gun and they'll still get the PPSH!
They don't get armour though, which is a shame.
I did do something similar against a Soviet Player, I recrewed using SturmPioneers and then some flanking conscripts got wrecked by them. He quit the game soon after. |
I thought they nerfed the StuG G's Anti Tank performance and made it more anti-infantry?
Did they change it back, or did I misinterpret what I read? |
I would try to learn at least one army from both Axis and Allies, if only because it makes finding a match that much easier (90% searching as Axis? Choose your Allied team. 85% searching as Allies? Choose your Axis team).
More importantly it also gives you an understanding of the match-up better and will help you play the game, and give you exposure to different armies. You might find that you like playing Soviets more than playing Wermacht for example, simply because you've been playing them a lot more and learning more about them.
In terms of choosing armies, I would either do some 1v1 against the AI, even on easy difficulty to learn what their tech is, and to try out their units. Use all the armies and see which one feels the most interesting to you and which is the most fun.
I would suggest maybe reading some basic guides or asking some simple questions on the forum to get the basics down then dive straight into 1v1 Match-making. You'll start off fighting people much better and much worse than you until the match-making get's a feel for your skill level. Don't get upset and don't get angry about balance, at this point it will hardly matter as you'll (and your opponents) will still be learning everything your army offers. If something seems really unfair or tough, again, ask some questions on how to deal with it, most of the time there might be an answer you weren't aware of.

only proper strat fo wehrmacht is to mgo heavy t1 t2 into tigers, everything else is just no go, talking about 1v1's ofc
But I only play 4v4 No Rush 30 minutes! The game is soooooo unbalanced! |
Anyone here play Virtua Fighter? |
^You don't have to 'spam' maxims, but one in the mix or even two and breaking up into Con + Maxim forces will probably go a long way. |
I think outside of a few difficult situations (early M3 Scout Car, the AAHT from US sometimes), the OKW seem pretty well balanced for 1v1.
The crippled fuel income means you can't build as much armour, but I would argue the vehicles that are available, as well as their non-fuel options are better than other armies.
270 for the Racketenwerfer is cheap, it required work to get good results, but it can be lethal against enemy armour. Now that their muni income is back to regular levels, they can afford to get a good number of Panzershrecks out to keep light vehicles at bay and even threaten medium tanks.
Don't forget that their tech costs are lower than most players. Only 30 fuel for Medic or Repair trucks, then 80 fuel for the Flak Truck.
Compare that with 40/50 Fuel for Soviet T1/2 buildings, then 120 for T3/4.
I find that even with crippled fuel I can get to the Flak Truck and put out a Luchs to counter light vehicles and infantry, then hold the line until I can get a Panther/Command Panther.
If I wanted to mix things up, I could go for Jagdpanzers instead.
EDIT: In terms of dealing with M3 Scout Cars, I've found the best approach is to keep my infantry together and just focus fire them. Small arms will do enough to force it away if not outright destroy it. Then they have MP and Fuel tied up in repairs while I can continue to spread out for a bit. I fear going for early racketenwerfers because its just too easy for it to get decrewed without good support. |
Come to think of it, I've noticed it twice since the last patch, once on a utility car and once on a sherman. Before that I hadn't seen it happen for some time.
Not sure if it's happened more often or just feels like it since reading this thread. |
So once upon a time I didnt think this thread was very valid but After playing since release I feel the need to say something. I think Obersoldaten's infer red need to be toned down a bit. Overs them selves are bearable, but the IR allows them to evaporate squads in the blink of an eye even when they are standing in cover. You have to have a tank dedicated to pushing them away other wise they simply wander about wiping anything they come across. Even that is not always a good plan because it allows the OKW to always bait out your armor. Basicaly they force you into poor engagements for simply having them on the field.
Hmm, I don't know. I've played a few matches recently where I did get lazy with my Obers and they got squad wiped in a heart-beat by BAR/M1919 carrying US forces. Like literally I drop my guard for a second and then 'We have lost a squad of infantry' and they are corpses.
I think the Infra Red makes them very powerful, but also more close-range, so you can take advantage of that I guess. I find that they aren't as easy to use as people make them out to be, simply A-Moving them alone is to throw them away most of the time. |
