Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the IS2 a heavy tank? And the OKW King Tiger? Whether or not they need to be changed I think every heavy tank should be on the list for a proper poll.
The elefant is actually completely useless right now. I'm surprised people are saying it is in a 'good spot'. Is a heavy tank only in a good spot when it's so expensive and bad that no one uses it? IMO it was never OP to begin with and I disagreed with the nerfs as soon as they came through. It operated just like a SU85 except more expensive, much slower but had better stats. It is very vunerable to arty and good flanking and is useless against infantry. A well microed T34 could take it out. I played a game (back in the day when people thought they were 'OP') and buttoned it with guards, did an arty and finished it off with a single T34. I've seen another one taken out with 2 T34s.
I actually don't have much of a problem with the heavy tanks themselves. What I have a problem with is the call-in meta that makes the timing for the heavy tanks so good. |
Wrong thread.
Not trying to be rude.
Shit my bad. |
EDIT: Posted in wrong thread. |
Rather than comment on what has already been said, I want to suggest one thing that does awesome in the anti-aircraft role:
Hulled down Ostwinds. They absolutely destroy. If they have vet as well, then just forget about using planes. They will shoot a bomber plane down before it even drops the bomb.
This sounds interesting, I'll try this out. |
This is actually one place were what you described is pretty historically accurate.
The AA given to ground troops was pretty inadequate for the job. The range on many of the AA guns was no more than 1-2 miles at best. A gunner had to use iron sights to track and lead a plane moving at 250-350 miles per hour. If it is heading right for you the speed and deflection is less of a problem, but you are also shooting at it for a pretty short time.
The answer was to mass the amount of firepower. It wasn't one 50 cal gun that would bring down a plane, but having dozens trying to do so with the hope that some might find the target.
That said, there are other elements that are less historical. Allied ground forces were MUCH less likely to be exposed to air attack or recon than Axis ground forces. Not just were there more allied aircraft, they didn't have to spend time defending their own cities or lines and were able to keep the Luftwaffe on the defensive. It was pretty rare by 1944 that the Luftwaffe was able to play much of a role at all.
Further, the Allied planes were much better suited to ground attack. Sturmoviks and Typhoons were designed for ground attack, and the huge P47 was a heavily armored, fast, and very durable plane that turned out to be really well suited to ground attack. (One US P47 pilot, Robert Johnson, tangled with a bunch of German planes returning from an escort mission. He and his ground crew counted some 20 20mm hits to his plane and lost count of 7.62 hits when they were into the hundreds.)
Fair enough, maybe the AA at the moment is actually a good thing. |
Ah yes, that would work
You mean when they streamed Observer Mode, which "The Community" had been asking for for ever, and next to no one appreciated that and wanted to talk about balance and bugs?
Or when everyone complained about PTW commanders, so they made everything go by random drop in war spoils and people complained about that too?
Things could be better, but I understand that "The Community" is fickle and entitled, and, to be blunt, doesn't represent most players
This. The negativity of some people on this forums is just sad. |
No. Just, no. |
I think AA overall (not just for OKW) feels like an unfinished mechanic. It doesn't feel consistent enough nor does it feel rewarding if you actually focus on AA units. It kinda feels like something they put in but never bothered to finish establishing but thought 'yeah that's good enough'.
What someone said earlier about there being a 5% chance to actually shoot down the plane without their being any health makes so much sense. That's exactly what it feels like - imo it really shouldn't be this. |

I would agree with you if CoH2 had a very strong e-sports scene in which balance makes or breaks players ability to win large cash prizes such as you seen is Starcarft. I realise this what Relic is aiming for but to do this you need a large and supportive community base. Relic currently relies on continuing funding through purchases of DLC which relies on a happy community. Under mining the balance for the more popular team games undermines community well-being and makes a fairly large majority of players feel marginalized. This causes a risk that players will leave the community and decrease potential customers for new dlc. Clearer communication from Relic about balance design and direction across all game types would go a long way in increasing community moral. Even an knowledge about the flaws would help. Currently it very small tight knit community which has access to direct balance influence.
Fair points, but I still disagree. A game doesn't become e-sports worthy overnight (how long has starcraft been around?) and you certainly aren't going to get there by disregarding balance for the most competitive game mode. At the moment team games are more popular, but 1v1s will get more popular if they work on them which will give the game the e-sports value it needs and thus boosting their player-base. I agree team games should not be disregarded either but I still believe the priority should be given to 1v1. No offense to team game players (I play them quite a lot as well) but I feel team games are more for 'fun' and 1v1s are more for serious play - thus making balance more important for 1v1 play.
Yes team games are rarely balance but I believe this due more to the lack of active balance then anything else. Focus is given to 1v1 and with decreasing levels of consideration as the player numbers increase.
I too have made calls for change to they way teams are played by forcing into 1v1 style if the trickle up balance is to work.
I agree completely with you here. Make team games work more like 1v1s so the balance trickle actually works.
